This place had no washing machine, no oven, no internet, nor proper fridge & TV set, impossible for wheelchair access. Such a basic place was being described as a high class holiday cottage. We were tricked by the misleading advertisement, spending $220/night.

The cottage was very clean and very quaint. Unfortunately on the main road even though it backs onto a river the cars kept coming till about 10pm at night. Need to take your own dinner unless you get to the local shop by 4pm otherwise the shops were closed and the nearest restaurant was a 20 min drive away! No... More

We booked this from their website. The description should say... The main road is literally on your front porch! In the twenty minutes we were there we heard trucks rolling past, not the creek. The house smelt dank and the beds and bedding looked like they were from a second hand store. The place was neat and tidy but we... More

Looking for the elusive platypus in the stream just behind the cottage. Couldn't see any in the morning. Saw an angler fishing for trout. The stream is so beautiful. Took some photographs. Shops were closed on public holidays.

Very old cottage which has been upgraded with good bathroom, adequate kitchen, main bedroom and lounge with wood fire. Second bedroom (single bed) also "doubles" as TV viewing area. Very comfortable bed, and the kitchen allows good viewing of adjoining river. Adjacent cafe is a gem. Westerway is handy to Mt Field National Park. Didn't see any platypus although apparently... First of all let me say we really enjoyed our stay at the cottage. It has a lovely log fire, electric blankets and extra heaters for the bedroom and bathroom so we were warm and cosy. The outlook on to that beautiful river is magic and we spent many hours just soaking up the serenity. We were even lucky enough... More

This is a delightful cottage that shows how life used to be but does it very well. The furniture is mostly period but fit beautifully into a traditional Aussie cottage. Once again I have to comment on how wonderful it is to have a wood burning stove on a cold night. The back deck looks out onto the river Tyeena,... More

Stayed here one night as we had planned to go to Russell Falls the next day , was so lovely right on the river and the cottage was easy to find as well. The cooking facilities where great the cottage is only small but three of us stayed quite ok . The fireplace is wonder and when we arrived it... More

Wow! What a winter wonderland. We travelled to Tasmania from QLD to elope, and chose Platypus Playground Riverside Cottage as the site for our nuptials. We were looking for a location and due to the winter season we were looking for something quaint which had a wow factor. We were not disappointed. We made the right choice, a quaint cottage,... Thank you for such a lovely rap! Well that was a first for our little cottage on the river. It was a pleasure having such great guests who appreciated simply everything we had to offer to make you stay enjoyable. Best wishes from the 4 platypuses in the river ... and me for a wonderful life together. We look forward... More

It was fine for a night and was clean which many places in Tasmania are not. Cooking utensils are basic. Microwave, weird little grill/oven that takes forever and 2 little hobs. Main bedroom was comfortable. Problems are it is right next to the main road and juggernaughts do use it. They started at 5.30am! The doors and windows are not... More

Thanks very much for your comments. We are glad you enjoyed your stay apart from the moths and although there is a big can of insect repellent in the cupboard we understand your eco friendly option! Thank goodness this happens once a year for a week, and the juggernauts - they are infrequent and most guests are enthralled by letting... More
