Our experience and two cent advice... We stayed the last weekend in July 2015, my boyfriend and I arrived on Friday afternoon, before his Dad and Dad's friend did. It was beautiful and clean. We were at sites #12, #13 and #14.. We had plenty of room and porta potties close. Once the sun set.. the group(s) in the Group...

We didn't stay at the campground, but we drove through it and it's very nice! Huge! We rented canoes from Chimney Rock and it was great. We opted for a 2 hour ride, and it was less than a 10 minute drive away (you leave your car at Chimney Rock for when you return). She helped us get the canoes...

This was our 7th time kayaking the Upper Iowa River and staying at the campgrounds. We have camped their in 40 degree weather and 95 degree weather and every time the place was clean and beautiful and the service was great! We couldn't ask for more, we love waking up to the sounds of the river! Thank you Deb and...

My friends and I have had a group go up to Chimney Rock every summer for the last 5 years. It is a great time! The staff and owner are super polite and kind, the kayaks are pretty nice, the river is great, and the campsite is also very nice. Yes, it can be a little rowdy on the weekend,...

My husband and I stayed here with friends in June 2014 for a kayak trip on the Upper Iowa River. Our group stayed Friday and Saturday nights in Cabins 1 and 2 and in a camper that our friends pulled in between the two cabins (there are electrical outlets on the back of the cabins). There is quite a bit...

My family and I stay in June of 2012 when there was a bit of a drought. The river was low but it was still SO very nice to canoe on with the rentals Chimney Rock Campground offered. The site we got was plenty big and we were not back to back with other sites!! It was SO nice to...

We stayed here from a Thursday to a Sunday in one of the cabins. Thursday was very relaxing, very few people were around. I was a bit concerned about the weekend as I had booked before I found the reviews, but we really did not have any problems where we were. Yes there were fireworks going off at night (not...

Sorry, Chimney Rock Campground... this place is beautiful but a drunken mess. The Upper Iowa River is gorgeous, but we'll stay away from this campground in the future. - FOUR rotting dead racoon in the woods surrounding our campsite = nasty stink - Drunken Idiots lighting fireworks and homemade pipe-bombs (seriously) at 1am - Said drunken idiot-couples showering in the...

I am sorry you had an unpleasant experience. I personally manicure the property (about 23 hrs per week) and have never smelled anything rotten or seen multiple dead coon. I police the property until 12 am and I don't drink so I rarely socialize with my customers. I sleep fully clothed in my recliner every weekend May through September so...

As opposed to some of the other reviews talking about noise and alcohol, my experience was quite different. I took my Boy Scout Troop for a day trip on the Upper Iowa River and a night at the campground before traveling back home. Granted we were there on a Wednesday, but we only ran into one other group of people...

This is no place for peace and quiet. It's overrun with falling down drunks, stereo-blaring yeehaws, and fools tearing up and down the gravel road non-stop, sometimes with their kids riding on the outside of vehicles. Fireworks (the really big stuff) went on all day and night, and management didn't give a hoot. My dog has been around plenty of...

I apologize for your negative experience at Chimney Rock. Holiday weekends can be full of enregy and this year (2013) everyone seemed to have cabin fever as the river was flooded nearly through the end of June and July 4th weekend was my first busy weekend of the summer, I do want to respond to your reference about frat houses,...
