The grounds of the Lodge are larger than most lodges and it is a peaceful nature retreat. Within the compound, one can stroll amidst many flowering scrubs and hear the melodious strains of the birds. Sited at an altitude of 1,500m, the air is cool, between 18°C to 25°C. Mile 36 Lodge is a great place for leisure, gatherings, rest point as you do bird and flower watching activities.

It's is quite easy to locate Mile 36, with the big signboard after the Mount KK national park. We were in a group of 9 people, so I'd booked the bungalow. We love the kampung style feeling and so near to the natural surroundings. Night time is a bit scary with various species of insects flew into the house and stick to the lights (maybe that was a rainy night). There's no netting on the windows and doors. Love the clean mattress and comforter!
We had the whole bungalow to ourselves and we cooked for dinner and breakfast.
We woke up at 5.30am, to wait for the spectacular view from our balcony. So nice, so natural, so cold!

It's really my mistake when my cousin made a reservation and I didn't check anything on this. The accommodation has no TV facility. As mum has to wait for us in the room when she refused to go out due to the knee pain, it's really bad to leave her without an entertainment .

The room has the real basic facility, bed and dressing mirror. That's it. No tv, water heater just enough for 2 person.

Internet are the worst of all. No internet signal anywhere in the area except in reception place .

I guess it's really little bit expensive without all proper facilities . It's bad that we made 3 nights reservation because I think kundasang is a nice place to discover.

Stayed at Mile 36 Lodge for 3 nights. We paid for all 3 nights on arrival and what a mistake that was. Should of checked out after first night due to paper thin walls. This is not the place to get a restful quiet nights sleep before trekking in Mt Kinabalu. The views are good but blighted by people constructing a house 12 hours a day, drilling and lighting fires that drifted smoke into our room. Minor thing like lots of flies in resturant, no hot and then sonetimes no cold water I can live with. I can even live with the poor breakfast (no options or Malaysian food on offer) but what really drove me to wish I stayed elsewhere was the policy if one staff member in marking up taxis. Let me explain.

When we arrived by public bus to Kundasang the taxi to Mile 36 was 15RM. After checking in and taking a shower we fancied eating out in Kundasang and asked reception to book a taxi for us. The price? 100RM!!! One way. More than the 4 hour bus journey we had just taken and almost as much as a taxi to KK 2 hours away. I explained that we had just paid 15RM for the 10min trip into town and were not going to pay her tourist price but it was night and didnt fancy waiting on the busy road to flag a taxi down so managed to negotiate it down with reception to 50RM return but it was still a bitter disappointment that a hotel would mark up taxis by so much. I actually laughed out loud when the staff member quoted me the first price. Incredible.

My tip, stay somewhere where the staff actually care about the guest experience and dont you as an opportunity to make some easy money.

Mile 36 Lodge is located not far from the Kinabalu Park. We booked the largest room and it's totally worth the price! The beds are comfortable enough to make a good night sleep. The kitchen was reasonably equipped with utensils and kitchenwares. Water heaters in the bathrooms worked.

Overall, not bad for a lodge. I'd recommend this lodge to other travellers.

Had high hopes for this place, and the setting is certainly very beautiful, but unfortunately the room was almost uninhabitable. The shower was cold and incredibly weak, so I couldn't wash my hair for the whole stay. The toilet leaked gross water all over the bathroom floor each time you flushed it... Truly gross. The room was tiny and separate from the bathroom which wasn't nice at night time.

Staff weren't very friendly and 'breakfast' was a total joke, it's make-your-own-toast and not breakfast. Lots of fruit flies and dirty knives to use butter and jam. Grim.

Mile36 is in a gorgeous location on the mountains...minutes away from Mount Kinabalu. Entering the driveway you are met with lush greenery and beautiful flowering trees and shrubs. The place seems to be run quite efficiently by 3 or 4 very friendly and English-speaking staff. The view from our bedroom is the most beautiful one I have ever had in a homestay but the room needs a bit of a facelift. The one biggish problem we had, which is probably due to typical Malay houses, was the noise levels at night.we could hear everything including very loud snoring from neighbours and other sounds which kept us awake most of the 2 nights we spent there.restaurant is relatively cheap and good although menu is very limited.

We stayed 5 nights at the Begonia lodge in their deluxe room. There was a queen size bed and an extra bed which we requested. The extra bed came as a mattress which they laid it on the floor. It was fine for us as the extra bed was for our child and putting it on the floor was safer so could avoid her from falling off the bed.

We stayed on the 2nd floor and there was a balcony outside our room. We had a front view of Mount Kinabalu and we were lucky to be able to view the majestic mountain peak on a clear sky condition!

The room was clean, cosy and spacious. There was no TV inside the room but that was fine with us as we could take this opportunity to "detox". The hot shower was working well consistently and water pressure was good too. However there was no cupboard inside the room but they provided a clothes stand for us to hang our clothes. Although there was no kettle inside the room, but they provided a hot and cool water dispenser machine with filter system outside the rooms. We initially thought they don't provide water so we bought a big bottle of distilled water and brought it with us from Kota Kinabalu. But actually there was no need for this as the water dispenser they provided was good enough. They also provided free wifi and the signal was quite good

Breakfast was simple with same fare almost everyday. I noticed on days where they had high occupancy, they cooked fried rice and noodles for breakfast. On days with not many occupants, they cooked sausage and eggs for us. For the price we paid which included the breakfast, there was really nothing we could complaint about.

We could park our car outside the Begonia lodge. Parking space was ample. Begonia lodge was also located at the inner most part of the lodge so the surrounding was very quiet and we got to enjoy the mountain fresh air. However the only issue they had was the sound proofing between the rooms. We could hear our neighbours talking even if they spoke in a low voice. When we experienced heavy rainfall during 2 of the nights, I was awakened by the thunderous sound of the rain falling on the roof. It did cross my mind if the lodge structure could withstand the heavy rain. I think perhaps when they first started this lodge, they did not used concrete materials to build the lodge which resulted to this sound proofing problem.

Location was good as it was located by the road side and easily spotted once we passed by the Mount Kinabalu Park. It was a short 5 minutes drive from the lodge to the park.

Anyway, it was a great stay with Mile 36. For the very affordable price we were paying, we had a great nice room with a million dollar view! Highly recommended if you are coming to Kundasang for a short stay!

I visited Kundasang with my 3 other friends and booked a room with 1 queen bed and 2 single beds with attached bathroom at affordable price.
The receptionist was friendly eventhough it was already 9pm.
Clean room and bathroom!
I love the view where we can see Gunung Kinabalu from our room and the morning breeze was just refreshing.
The breakfast was okay - toast and some fried noodle and fried rice, which is acceptable to me.
It's just that there's no mobile connection at all from our room (i use maxis) - which is okay with me as we took the opportunity to have a real conversation without the smartphone!
The small Kundasang town is just few kilometres away from the lodge but it might be difficult for u to move around if you dont any transport.
All in all, i strongly recommend this place to those who wish to visit Kundasang!

Hi..at Easy Valley there is a less visibility of Mt Kinabalu..if you want a good visibility, you can try the twin room (Begonia) or Bungalow Room (Chin Cottage). Try Google: Mile 36 Lodge Tips: If you stay there, wake up early in the morning (6am~7am) to see the full visibility of Mt Kinabalu.
