That this beautiful, serene resort even exists where it does requires the weary traveler to suspend disbelief, because it doesn’t quite seem possible. Here, at the end of an all day drive on some of Madagascar’s most brutal (but fascinating) tracks, is Laguna Blu, perched on a bluff overlooking the sea. And you’ll probably arrive late in the day, maybe even at sunset as I did, which makes the arrival even more magical. A scattering of bungalows looking out to the sea, a lonesome beach that will pretty much be yours alone, nights lit with an impossible amount of stars... Laguna Blu will leave a lasting impression on you. The beach, at low tide, is so interesting. Plenty of white sand, but also a reef that extends far, far out into the Mozambique Channel. It’s fun to explore, but step lightly, and be aware that everything around you is very much alive. Allow some time to visit the nearby Vezo village of Andavadoaka. The people will be just as curious about you as you are about them. And last but not least, make sure you pay a visit to the local grove of Baobabs, some 20 minutes away. In my opinion, the most spectacular group of Baobabs in Madagascar, even more astonishing than those at the Avenue of the Baobabs outside of Morondava. They are totally surreal! Laguna Blu was by far my favorite lodging in Madagascar, and one of the most beautiful places I have stayed, period. I think you just have to go and see for yourself.

This place is unbelievable: well designed, super bungalows, super sea-view, lovely owners, great and tasty food, very pleasant staff. All in all we wish we could have stayed longer. The hotel also organizes whale watch and snorkeling sailing trips. This is unforgettable.

Delightful beach hotel, so welcoming after a challenging day's off-road drive to reach it. The Italian couple running it (she front of house, he in charge of the kitchen) provided by far the most beautifully prepared food of our 3 week drive around Madagascar, plus comfortable rooms, a splendid beach, and a fantastic balcony sit and to watch the setting sun. A lovely experience, thoroughly recommended.

Absolute harmony of soul, body and mind thanks to the magnificent Manuela and talented Ernesto. The order appears everywhere and in everything. Everything is right, everything is at the highest level. I miss Manuela incredibly, she is sincere, kind, decent and honest person. The location of the hotel is simply magical. In spite of a common problem with beaches in Madagascar,Laguna Blu's beach is perfect. Thanks to this location, you may enjoy incredible discoveries every time during the ocean tides. You feel like a happy child, collecting fantastic seashells, sea stars, watching crabs and fish. This is a true paradise on earth. And separately, lifehack to everybody: I would recommend you to ask Ernesto to prepare minestrone. Its Musthave!
