The Cottage House is a block off main street in historic Council Grove. It offers a variety of rooms in an early American/Victorian motif. Our room was on the second floor, and was quite comfortable. On a previous visit, I stayed in one of the motel-style rooms separate from the main building, and it was nice but not as interesting.... More

Do not miss the Oatie Beef dinner if you stay there. Dawn & staff prepare a delicious, personalized dinner. Council Grove itself is not very lively. Tall Grass Prairie Reserve nearby is worth a trip, take the bus tour.

Many people love this place, so that's good. But others are going to be put off by the fact that the owners go overboard warning customers about not smoking or not bringing your bicycle in the room or causing damage to this or that, not to mention the bizarrely stiff and high cancellation fees. It's just not charming or classy... More

Do not miss the dinner special. The food was absolutely great. Dawn is a wonderful hostess. The rooms were very comfortable. Best night sleep away from home we have ever had. Perhaps it was the great food we ate that night.

Coming for a funeral in nearby Dwight. Was accomidated in ground floor suite that my aging knees appreciated. Charmingly decorated, bountiful breakfast offerings and local newspapers available. Made for a welcome refuge during a stressful trip.

Cottage House is chock full of estate quality antiques. I stayed in the turret room with a beautiful stained glass window overlooking the antique iron bed. Heating was provided by a working steam radiator and the private bath had a super luxurious claw foot tub that was sheer heaven after a full day of exploring the town. Breakfast is serve... More

By sheer luck we discovered The Cottage House while driving through the Midwest. Sitting on the front porch mingling with other guests, enjoying a delicious breakfast around a table with new found friends are just a few delightful moments encountered thanks to the efforts of Jerimiah and Dawn along with their daughter Sheinja. Highly recommend this lovely, peaceful place to... More

Well, there are not many choices in Council Grove. This property looked interesting, and it was. Apparently, it was a former boarding house. We had a decent room on the second floor and the building and room had some charm. However, I found the owner off-putting. When we checked in we had to sign a long list of things that... More

Our small group of 4 spent a weekend here while biking nearby. The best part is the front porch--we enjoyed sitting with a cocktail and watching council grove go by... Our room seemed rather dated and dreary with areas on the carpeting worn and round toilet seat on an oval bowl which seemed odd. Our companion's room looked to be... More

Great inn in Council Grove. Continental breakfast is creative and good. You can eat Inside or out on the porch areas. Beautiful Inn historic and in downtown-walkable to eating places and shopping. Hays House is a great place to go for Dinner. The rooms are decorated antique style very nice. There are several rooms that are great for families. One... More
