We wanted to spend some time in a central wilderness area...Strathgordon does that, and this is the only place to stay in Strathgordon. The room (Tim Shea) was basic...but adequate, clean & comfortable...we weren't going to spending a lot of time in a room...so no 'deal-breaker' there. The 'Lodge' is in a superb setting, overlooking the lake; and most breakfasts,...

Loved our visit here. The staff and the restaurant went out of their way to look after us from the minute we arrived. We caught 9 beautiful trout over a couple of days and the restaurant was kind enough to cook them up for us. The food was 5 star...stunning. Great live music with an open fire. The rooms are...

Fantastic drive from Hobart, so secluded, welcomed by the lovely staff. Our room had a great view of the lake. Loved the Jacks walk into the wilderness, at the back of the lodge, up and down hills over bridges. The huge fireplace looks out the moss lawn and lake, so relaxing!!

The Lodge accommodation is basic - our room was one of the single men's wing. But comfy bed and clean bathroom. There is a lounge, bar and dining area for guests to share with big fire blazing and wonderful outlook over the Pedder. The story behind the dam isn't hidden and perhaps one day the lake may be restored to...

We knew not to expect 5 star accomodation when we booked this place as it was all about the surroundings. This is exactly what we got. A room which had everything we would need for one night and a beautiful lake to take in (while its not pouring rain, windy and freezing).

Not sure if you will get accommodation with views like that often :) So quiet. The staff were awesome and great to talk to and also very helpful. They made us feel quite welcome. Was a good base for us hikers to go and do some walks in the area. Access to the pool after a hard day's walk was...

A trip to the Gordon Dam and drive into Tasmanian West Coast is a must see and Pedder Wilderness Lodge is a good place to be based. We had a cheaper and simpler room but it was good. Staff brought chairs into the room to make it more hospitable. Reataurant has a good chef as food and quality was superb...

It was amazing to find a place like the Pedder Wilderness Lodge in the middle of nowhere, World Heritage area. All the staff were amazing, friendly and nothing was a hassle. Paul, our waiter come service desk come barman would get a job in any restaurant in the world, simply amazing. As I told the chef, it was a shock...

The only room worth getting is the Pedder Wing Lake View Room. We stayed one night in a lake view room and one in a regular Pedder Wing room after we extended our stay (note: not all Pedder Wing rooms have a lake view, despite the pictures on the website and other booking sites!) and would only consider staying here...

This was such an amazing area - wild and beautiful. The lodge was so very comfortable and, although we mainly took our own food, the facility also catered for people who required lovely meals. This is a fantastic venue as the very reasonable price included a Continental breakfast with a few different types of cereal, juice, pastries, and a couple...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Pedder Wilderness Lodge is located right in the heart of Tasmania's Southwest National Park which is part of Tasmania's World Heritage Area. Recognised as one of the world's extraordinary natural wonders by the World Heritage Commission, it is to be protected forever from human intervention. One tree, which now sits out the front of the Lodge, was cut down in the 1970's before this protection was in place. The great Huon pine, which is about the width of a car, has its rings marked all the way back to the birth of Christ. Our surrounds, from which this great Huon came, boast everything from ancient awe-inspiring landscapes with boulders from the Jurassic period, striking mountains and lush sub-alpine rainforests with monolithic trees which range from centuries to thousands of years old, all the way to the modern man-made Gordon Dam which offers one of the world's top ten adrenaline activities. With accommodation for all types of travellers, Pedder Wilderness Lodge offers a relaxing and warm environment with a focus on fine Tasmanian food, wines and produce. With sweeping views of Lake Pedder and Twelvetrees Range you could not find a more perfect place to escape, explore, relax and enjoy our hospitality. ... more   less
