We have always wanted to see a southern plantation and chose Oak Alley because it has appeared in over 25 movies and received good reviews. We were not disappointed. It was pouring on us so we ran into the house and we were able to stay under the homes large porches until our tour started. There was a paddlewheel cruise...

I'm not much into visiting old homes, I can see what I want to see without a tour guide telling me things about the family and furnishings, but that's the way it's done. The best part of this trip was walking up the "alley" made by 300+ year old oaks that are absolutely majestic. They think they were planted by...

Beautiful property. Unbelievably the most energy I felt anywhere. History books cannot give you the true life lived here. I learned so much that left me very fulfilled in my wanting to learn. Toured the home with a great tour guide. Young man was full of history and answers. I recommend this to everyone that wants to learn and see...

We just had the best experience of the year. We went to Oak Ally plantation, spent the night in their cottages. From there we went to tour other plantations on river road. There are dozens and dozens of them. Oak Ally is magnificent. Absolutely beautiful and professionally maintained. The 300 hundred year old trees are spectacular. The Cottage and it...

We spent the night in cabin 5, and everything was top-notch. The staff was amazingly friendly and welcoming. We walked around the grounds first, and then checked in. They welcome you with a complimentary lemonade, and then escort you to your cabin, where every detail is explained. Our cabin had a sitting/eating room, the bedroom, and a big bathroom with...

My wife and I were very happy with our two night stay in cottage #4 at Oak Alley Plantation. We made this our base while touring the Louisiana Plantation Country, and were glad that we did. The staff was very hospitable, greeted us with cups of lemonade, and had taken the trouble to replace the feather pillows in our cottage...

We drove from Houston to Oak Alley Plantation (after a long haul flight from Australia). After several stops, and getting lost (we went the wrong way at Baton Rouge (I blame the GPS), we arrived at about midnight and were very tired. We had previously ordered dinner (we thought we would arrive at about 8.30pm). Dinner was waiting for us...

Oak Alley should ask guests to respect the setting they're stepping into before they enter. Not everyone goes on plantation tours for the same reasons. While I do respect that, those who run this place should make a point of requesting visitors to be mindful of the other guests who may have hearts, souls, and feelings. The tourists are what...

We stayed in cottage 6 for our anniversary. This was our first trip to Louisiana and I'm glad we decided to stay here while touring the local plantations. The cottage was private and quaint and came with a fully stocked kitchen. Our first night we ordered the evening meal room service and our food was ready waiting for us in...

We stayed two nights at Oak Alley. It was a true highlight of our trip to the region. Grounds are glorious and service on arrival was first rate. Warm, friendly, a lemonade and a golf cart escort to check us into our wonderful two bedroom cottage. A quick tour and then orientation to the area and very helpful dinner recommendations....

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Nowhere else in the south will you find such a spectacular setting! The story of Oak Alley Plantation began with a vision, an alley of 28 oaks later mirrored by a manor with 28 columns. In the early 1700’s an unknown settler planted twenty-eight evenly spaced oak trees in two rows leading from his humble cottage toward the mighty Mississippi River. Over a decade later, an aristocrat by name of Jacques Telephores Roman lured his New Orleans socialite bride to leave her city live life, to achieve his dream of becoming a sugar king. In 1839, Jacques and Celina built this spectacular mansion, leaving the Roman legacy for us to enjoy today. Come and enjoy her beauty and dream of her rich past. Explore 25 acres of history and romance, regret and rebirth, tragedy and triumph. Enjoy a Mint Julep or refreshing lemonade while strolling these historic grounds and see the legacies left by the Romans, the Stewarts and those in between. Step back in antebellum elegance and tour the Big House with a guide in period dress. And witness the reconstructed slave quarters to understand the lives of the workers whose labor made plantation life and its luxuries possible. Visit the Civil War Interpretive Exhibit which consists of a commanding officer's tent, staffed most days by one of our three Civil War interpreters. These interpreters, along with our video kiosk, will allow visitors to understand one of the most crucial periods in this nation's history. Enjoy small group discussions with one of our interpreters who are available to answer your specific questions.Dine with us and savor flavorful Cajun & Creole dishes in our Restaurant or grab a light lunch or ice cream in our Café. Browse our impressive Gift Shop. Spend a tranquil evening in one of our 19th century old cottages. Even plan a wedding, corporate or special event. There is just so much to experience at Oak Alley!  ... more   less
