Many choices for good meals in Bethel with various ethnic courses. The Jolly offered a nice taste of the British Isles in a comfortable setting with friendly and knowledgeable waitstaff. I chose the cottage pie and it came piping hot. It could have improved with additional basic spices. My wife had the chicken pastry and she loved this different version...

Ten years ago, this place was a well tended replica of an English Inn and Pub. Now it is a bit tired. Room cleanliness, decor and attention to maintenance average. Staff very helpful. Food average for the price.

Wonderful pub for English and Indian recipes. Friendly barroom, always a conversation. Great beer selection. Rooms upstairs are old New England lovely. Fred and Cindy are terrific hosts! (Favorites are Dogfish Head when it's on tap, Clown Shoes, Guinness Export, and Delirium Tremens bottles, or whatever ale is in the nitro tank. Love the Indian lamb dishes, bangers and mashed,...

My husband and I had a wonderful experience at the Inn. Rooms are updated, clean, nicely furnished and quiet. The Pub downstairs served excellent food with a great beer selection. The host was friendly and extremely helpful.

We stayed 1 night in the Tavistock room. While it was a comfortable temperature when we arrived (the door to the hall having been open), it was hot and stuffy when we came back that evening. There doesn't appear to be any air vents in the room. The bed was comfortable. It's not real clean in a dusty sort of...

Husband & I enjoyed a few drinks in the pub, followed by a great meal in the dining room. The bartender/owner was a great host, friendly but not intrusive and he poured a good drink. We both thoroughly enjoyed our meals. He had the mixed grill of lamb, chicken & sausage with a fresh vegetable medley and potato. Portion was...

My husband and I spent a night here before heading to Sunday River to ski. We had a great time! The pub downstairs was intimate and and full of lively people. We sat on a cozy leather couch next to a warm fire, sipped cocktails and shared a desert. The food and drinks were excellent and the inn keepers were...

We have come to the Briar Lea Inn for 5 years now as we discover the Bethel area in the summer. We wanted to explore the Bethel/Newry area in warmer weather after taking annual ski trips to Sunday River. We love the inn and the Jolly Drayman Pub. We are welcomed as friends and Fred and Cindy have treated us...

We stayed only one night at the Briar Inn. Wasn't busy at all while we were there. The pub is small with a bit of an outdoor patio. Although the sign says its a B & B it isn't. We stayed in the Tavistock room. Coffee available in your room, but pub is not open for breakfast, at least not...

This was the second time we've stayed at the Briar Lea Inn. We started coming to the fabulous restaurant, the Jolly Drayman, years ago when we skied at Sunday River. My husband is from Cambridge, England, and loved it. This weekend just my daughter and I came. It's been wonderful. Very cozy room, quiet (and we're on the 2nd floor,not...
