We spent three nights at the hotel. The room was confortable, the staff very nice and the food excellent. Enjoyed the breakfast menue very much. Nice walks - the Thames nearby, only a couple of minutes to train station, nice starting point for visits to Oxford, Wallingford/Cholsey (Agatha Christie's grave) or the "Midsomer Murders Locations" by car.

I stayed here for business..was clean and friendly with good food. However at night noisy with the sound of the bar below the bedrooms. The bedrooms feel tired and the bathrooms definitely needed updating. Ok but not likely to stay again as while value for money I was cold and night as no adjustable heating and sweltering in the morning...

The Baskerville is in a good location being so close to Reading and Henley-on-Thames and I chose this in preference to staying in one of the larger hotels in Reading itself. The room was comfortable and the bathroom modern with a very good shower. The staff were very helpful and friendly and the food in the restaurant and breakfast both...

In this age of impersonal chain hotels it was a pleasure to stay in a family run establishment. There are only 4 letting bedrooms and our room was large, clean and comfortable. It was above the bar so a bit noisy Friday teatime but all quiet by the time we went to bed. Our breakfast of poached eggs on toast...

Had to stay here for business and I must say it was excellent. Shower was amazing and towels made into little elephants. Detail always makes such a difference. Had dinner with a friend in the evening and food was fantastic I couldn't fault anything, same with breakfast in the morning I had the smoked salmon and eggs and quite honestly...

Always like to find unique places when I travel for business...this was no exception. Great room.. comfy bed, lovely bar with some excellent history... it's down the street from a famous recording studio and has hosted such notable Brits as Amy Winehouse and Kate Moss. Super nice manager and staff.. close to the train and fantastic breakfast!

We selected the Baskerville as it was just off the river, next to the railway station and had good car parking. The quality of the place was a welcome bonus. Management couldn't have been more helpful; the room was comfortable and convenient and the restaurant is exceptional.

I booked the triple room (one double and one single bed) for a stop over night whilst we went to the Hand and Flowers in Marlow. The pub's address on websites like Expedia takes you to Henley, but once you work out where it really is you realise how quaint it is. Good parking next to the hotel, welcoming bar...

Nice inn/ pub with character and pleasent staff. Enjoyed both evening dinner and breakfast. Pleasent garden. Car park available. Noise from pub disturbing in room. Likewise, the occassional dog barking. Odd to experience this in a eating/ drinking establishment.

We stayed in the hotel for 3 nights and everything was really good. We had the Shiplake Lock room which had a queen and a single bed. The room was huge by European standards. The shower was a bit tight but plenty of hot water and pressure. Breakfast was excellent with a nice choice, the full English, kippers and smoked...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Oxfordshire Restaurant of the Year 2016. The Baskerville in Lower Shiplake remains a traditional village inn with a ‘proper’ bar, a delightful restaurant, 4 star accommodation, a beautiful garden and ambitions beyond its AA rosette. With Kevin Hannah and head chef Jamie Herridge at the helm, its outstanding customer service is matched only by its creative, seasonally changing menus. Fresh, ethically and locally sourced produce lie at the heart of its modern but classically based dishes which offer a memorable experience. 2015 Beautiful South Awards. Silver Award in Tourism Pub of the Year. It is a AA 4 star Inn and is similarly rated by Visit England but with a Silver Award. It is situated on the Thames Path in the tranquil, affluent village of Lower Shiplake, with well appointed en-suite rooms, the Baskerville is the perfect place to stay the night either for Dinner, business or just for a leisurely break. The small town of Henley-on-Thames with its many interesting shops and home to the Henley Royal Regatta and the Henley Festival is only 1.5 miles away. Enjoy a boat trip up the Thames or visit the River and Rowing Museum. Try a night at the Kenton theatre, the fourth oldest in England. Within the village why not stroll along to Shiplake lock and watch the river cruisers pass through. A little further up the hill is the 13th-century parish church of St Mary's where Alfred Lord Tennyson was married. Further afield are the towns of Reading 7 miles, Windsor, with its castle, and nearby Legoland 15 miles, and the university town of Oxford, 22 miles. All of these can be reached by train from Shiplake station 150 m from the pub via the Henley branch line to Twyford on First Great Western trains. Feeling a little more adventurous? Paddington station is less than an hour away with all that London can offer. Shiplake is 25 miles or 30 minutes by cab or car from Heathrow Airport. ... more   less
