did a 3 day XC trip 1st night at little lyford, second night at Gorman. Fantastic staff at both locations, providing some great tips on trip options and conditions. Also, phenomenal food, especially at Gorman. Recommend the cabins at Gorman that offer a lakefront view...More
Great staff and great back country accommodations. Trails were groomed every day. Dietary restrictions were carefully attended to. Ski in 8 miles but they take your bags. I beleive you can be brought in as well if required. I have visited in the summer as...More
Went on a x-country ski lodge-to-lodge trip, and stayed a night at Gorman Chairback. The lodge is beautiful. The staff were so friendly and helpful. The food is amazing - especially considering they have to bring everything in on snowmobile. All around, this place is...More
LittlGorman Chairback is an excellently managed collection of cabins and a bunkhouse, with an excellent common lodge for hearty Appalachian Mountain Club family style meals. The lodge offers a bathhouse with hot showers (in -5 degree F weather) , a sauna, and environmentally sound composting...More

I can't say 100% but the black flies are typically late June/early July. I don't think you should have a problem in Sept. But might make sense to call the AMC hut and ask. I just did a hut to hut x country trip... More
I can't say 100% but the black flies are typically late June/early July. I don't think you should have a problem in Sept. But might make sense to call the AMC hut and ask. I just did a hut to hut x country trip with 20 women and it was incredble. We started at a parking lot, skiied into Little Lyford, then the next day skied to Gorman and then last day skiied out. In the summer, you can drive directly to Gorman which was the prettiest because its on a big lake. Lots of day hikes to do from there. We liked cabin 7 the best...at the end, beautiful views of lake. The hut transferred our luggage each day so we didn't have to carry. Call Gorman and ask them directly for suggestions. Awesome place!!!!
