The pictures online are not what we saw on arrival. The lawn was unkept, which I was willing to overlook. Peeking in to the front door (because it was locked on our 3pm arrival)... we saw not clutter... but hoarding. There was a sign by the front door saying the innkeeper was next door and to follow the sidewalk. Broad daylight and I was nervous to walk the sidewalk down the weedy stairs to the house next door (think “Beetlejuice” or “Bates motel” or some horror movie. My adult niece and I approached and opened the door nervously to a man who said we were early (not expected until 4pm- 5pm). They let us in the house to show us one of our reserved rooms (which was an “upgrade” per Peter). The entry floor was plywood (no covering). The floor was concrete (not the nice kind... the kind you’d find in a jail). There were stairs leading up to an undisclosed area that were also plywood. He then took us to show the second reserved room in the main house (it was full of hoarding type clutter) and smelled dirty. We informed them that we would need to make adjustments and would like to cancel this reservation. Peter then informed me that they had just had a bad water issue as a hot water tank had busted. Maybe this caused some mildewing? None the less, this did not explain all the other issues.

Booking – found the B&B on Hotels.com. Because we travel with a dog, I called to inquire about their pet policy; it was good – no charge. While on the phone, Peter, the host, said he would save me a few bucks if I booked directly with him – I don’t get the Hotels.com benefits, but OK. I book for 2 nights. I get the email confirmation and discovered he charged me 3% to use a credit card. No savings, no benefits. Strike 1. First Impressions – untrimmed hedges, weed covered parking lot, lawn un-mowed, gardens overrun with weeds, porch needs paint. Go inside – unsmiling, uncombed host who style statement is to wear white socks with sandals. It’s clear that the hosts have get the place deteriorate so far they can’t keep up. The lobby is dark and dreary. The dining room is cluttered with everything under the sun with a clear plastic cover over the table. The halls are filled with acres and acres of unmatched fabrics. Then the smell of cat pee permeates the walk to the room. The place gives us the heebie jeebies. Strike 2. The room – an even greater mishmash! Enter the room through the toilet. A makeshift curtain is the door between the room and the bath (see photo). Unusual, but OK. But – the internet does not work. The host says it works fine and alludes that the problem is my fault. Wrong! It’s his problem. Strike 3. We want out. We tell him our plans have changed and we want to cancel the 2nd night. He says no, we can’t. He finally agrees to talk it over with Nancy, the other, unseen host. He comes back and says he’ll refund $100 of the $162/night. We’re desperate to leave, so we agree. Strike 4. We spend the next several hours avoiding the place. At night, neither of us slept well. Breakfast time. We arrive at the appointed time. We are not asked for our preferences, we get what they give us – fried eggs, toast, frozen hash browns, and a small cup of fruit. We don’t like fried eggs. Strike 5. To summarize this sad tale – it cost us over $220 to spend the night in a miserable, unfriendly, lackluster place. Stay away unless you like eccentric surroundings.

My husband and I took a long weekend in Maine to go to the 2017 Country Music Festival at Red Hook Brewery. We had to find a place that was pet friendly and didn't coast an arm and a leg. Well we finally found this place, and what a disappointment it turned out to be. From the moment we walked in we both knew this wasn't going to be a relaxing weekend. The rooms are packed to the brim with stuff, and 90% of it is unneeded. On Saturday we met up with my parents for lunch and received a phone call form the owners stating that we were NOT allowed to keep our dog in his cage because its against there policy. When I asked why they had gone in our room they did not have an answer, which to me is unacceptable. When we got back we took our dog for a 3 hr .hike then left for dinner as we were leaving the owners asked, how long we would be gone, because they don't think its humane to leave any animal alone for more then 4 hrs. Needless to say we felt rushed and somewhat on edge. Fast forward to Sunday the day of the festival, we took Logan to the dog park for 2.5 hrs., and then brought him with us to lunch. After that we dropped him off, again as we were leaving the owner Peter stopped us and asked us again how long we'd be gone for and when I told him we weren't sure, Pete gave us a look of disgust!!!!!! Like clock work, 4hrs after we left they called and said that the dog was barking. We left the concert, and LEFT THE B&B! We had paid for our room till Monday but packed our stuff and left Sunday evening and drove straight home. The owners treated my husband and I like we were irresponsible 20 yr olds, and made us feel like we were not welcomed at all. This place is a total joke and id never go back even if I was paid too! The owners are very strange and rude. They haven't done any work to the outside of the property in god knows how long. They told us they had a fenced in yard but that a tree fell several years ago and they haven't fixed it yet. Plus the back yard is littered with dog poop, which no one cleans up. The beds are ROCK HARD, and the room are cluttered beyond belief. If you can find another place, PLEASE DO!!!!!!! If you are just looking for a place to sleep and nothing more then I guess this place will do, but if you have pets PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE find another place. :-( The Wifi really DOESNT WORK AT ALL, very patchy at best.

We are kind of 50-50 on B&B's. Some are wonderful, some are iffy. But they are usually affordable and include breakfast. Enchanted Nights falls into the middle, toward the really nice, mostly because of the owners, Peter La Mandia and his wife, who are personable, caring and available. We read some of the other reviews, and we are mystified that they expected a modern, extra sharp place that advertises being Victorian. Maybe these guests need to look up Victorian and change their expectations. Victorian IS cluttered. Victorian is not modern. Victorian has lots of eclectic knick-knacks. It is not extra sanitized. This place IS clean, but not orderly, and that is fine. The price is right, and the beds are comfy. The breakfast isn't gourmet, but adequate and included. We would stay here again, but the owners say they may end up in animal shelter work. They love animals and have many.

We stayed here because there were no other available rooms in the area. It was terrifying. Like everyone says the rooms are straight out of a hoarders episode and the smell is too much to take. Our room had no ac and it was sooo hot. We were in constant fear that someone would break in and found a hole carved out of the headboard had to check and make sure there was no camera in it. Creepy noises and the feeling you were constantly being watched. There were 11 mirrors in our room. Stayed on the ground level floor and saw a shadow pass by our window around 3am. We didn't sleep at all and ended up leaving at 4am. As we left at 4am the inn keeper watched us leave out the front door. Amazing this place is still in business please stay away for your own health and safety!!
