As part of a meandering exploration of northern New Hampshire (White Mountains area) and southern New Hampshire/Maine, we wanted to experience Portsmouth and Kittery, being that the two were so close together. In fact, the location of the Water Street Inn was sheer perfection. Situated in Kittery, it was a modest walk over the bridge to get into Portsmouth and also easy to get onto Rt. 1 to drive up the coast. Right across the street from the Inn was Warren's Seafood which served up some great lobster and an even better Bloody Mary! But I digress, the real stars of this review are: 1) The ease of check-in/check-out. They use a push button code tied to your phone number so no plastic cards to misplace. 2) The comfort and elegance of the bed/pillows/comforter. I am sadly of an age now where I frequently experience back pain. Often when I stay at a hotel I am up early because of it. Not so at the Water Street Inn. I slept so soundly and was so comfortable in the morning that I didn't want to get up! Overall, I would definitely consider staying here again, if only to get a few more nights of great sleep, which really is the most important thing you expect from the lodging you choose.

Loved it. Like the model: no desk, no key card, lovely coffees, teas, and snacks. Lots of local info. A short walk across the bridge into Portsmouth. Quiet. Clean. Parking. Comfortable bed. Simply the best. The view is of Portsmouth as evening falls, from room #4.

I couldn't have been more delighted by my recent stay. Everything was considered by the hotel management. The location is great. The COVID protocols made me feel safe. Comfy room. I can't recommend this place enough.

Clean, stylishly & comfortably furnished, a lovely place to stay that is obviously well cared for. They were extremely accommodating on a last minute room change to a lower floor when I had hip problems during the trip here that made stairs to the third floor extremely difficult to navigate. If you have mobility issues, ask for room #1 on the first floor. Like most homes of this era there is no elevator and normally that has not been a problem. They were very gracious about making a room change. Lots of attractions and great dining options close by. Would definitely recommend the Water Street Inn to anyone planning to visit this area.
