The Press Hotel captures the indefinable essence of Portland, Maine, providing an approachable unique and utterly memorable full-service boutique experience that is truly Beyond Words. Built in 1923 as the offices for the Portland Press Herald, our hotel takes inspiration from the writer's offices of that era: each of the hotel's exquisite 110 guest rooms and suites feature a vintage-styled journalist desk, wood floors with herringbone area rug, and the work of local artists and artisans. The historic building boasts oversized windows in every guestroom, providing natural light and fresh Maine air during your stay. Playful newsroom references abound, including thought-provoking quotes and occasional one-liners in the most unexpected places. The hotel also hosts two utterly unique spots for food and drink. The restaurant UNION is Portland's newest farm-to-table (and sea-to-table) hotspot, with creative takes on recognizable "Americana" favorites from coast to coast. Inkwell Bar echoes the energy and intellect of its former occupants, with serving hand-crafted vintage cocktails, Portland microbrews and small plates in our lobby space (the former City Room of the Press Herald.) The hotel also features four meeting and event spaces ranging in size from 300 to 1,170 square feet, conjuring images of the spirited editorial meetings that once took place in this historic building, At the base of a dramatic open staircase that descends from the lobby, these spaces resemble private residential libraries and are ideal for executive retreats, small business meetings, board meetings, weddings and social functions. A unique Art Gallery featuring works by local artists is a perfect location for a reception event.

We were only in Portland for one day before moving on, but we were so glad we chose The Press Hotel. From the unique lettering outside, this hotel (which used to be a massive publishing house), to the decor inside, to the letters in the carpeting, to the unique quotes on chairs

Visited Portland and was fortunate enough to stay at the Press Hotel. From the valet team to check in to the wonderful ladies for turn down service I was treated like a rock star. The management must be great because everyone I encountered was so incredibly kind and friendly.

Dear snax555, Thank you for choosing The Press Hotel, Autograph Collection for your recent visit to Portland! I am thrilled to find that our staff delivered a service experience that was nothing short of Beyond Words while you were here with us, on property! Portland has so much to do, see, drink and eat - all of which, is thankfully just a short walk from our entrance. The only down side is there is just never enough time to experience it all! We hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back, should you find yourself making a return trip in the future! Hello! There are two flights of stairs leading up to the penthouse. I would say approximately 15-20 steps total. It is the most beautiful spot for a wedding! We look forward to having you with us! Best, Ginny

which rooms have bathtubs?
Hi Erin T, The only rooms that feature bath tubs are our Executive King suites (222, 322, 422, 522) and one of our One Bedroom suites (201). The other One Bedroom suite is handicap-accessible and does not have a tub (601). I hope this information helps you with your booking decision! Warm regards, Ginny P

Is parking included?
No, they only have valet parking at this hotel which was $20 when we went December 2016. However, if you decide to do the public parking garages it is $25-$30 a day. The valet service was great and timely.

There is a coffee maker hidden in the desk in the room in case you missed it. I'm not a coffee drinker but that is a good idea as most people are and it's nice to meet other guest in the lobby and grab coffee.
