Really nice hotel in a great location. Very central, good sized modern rooms with a quirky, trendy lobby. We were able to park in the street outside which was handy. Staff were friendly and very helpful. I have no hesitation in recommending this 4* hotel in Portland.

We have stayed at The Press many times, but we likely will not return. At this point, the rates have gotten SO high that the hotel is not a good value. The rooms are charming, but not enough to justify $900-1000/night. The service is good, but it kind of feels like it has slipped just a bit, but that that price has increased regardless. As much as we have enjoyed The Press, we will stay at a different Marriott group hotel next summer; the prices here are just not justified.

Very cool hotel with an excellent feel. From making the reservation, to valet service on arrival, to the great suggestions from the staff, they did it all well. The bed was super comfortable and the best pillows ever. Spotless. Would definitely stay again!

This was our 3rd time staying here and have decided this was the last time. We stayed here several years ago, shortly after they opened. Customer service was phenomenal back then…hand written thank you notes, engaging conversation, and they remembered your name. Customer service is now deplorable. Snotty people who couldn’t care less about you. The only nice person was the bellman who parked the car and brought our bags up. No free breakfast anymore with my elite status. Food is very pricey and portions minuscule. Two for breakfast will easily run you $50.00 plus tip. Restaurant is under renovation and they have set up a dining area in the lobby. Rooms are OK…on the small side…starting to show wear and tear…I just wish they would give you a decent chair to sit in. Get rid of the desk and put in some comfy seating….only place to sit in the room was on the bed. In a city with a ton of hotel options, stay elsewhere.

Obviously, everyone missed the customer service class except the nice guys who do the valet and handle the luggage and the adorable blond bartender (Tam I think?). I only stay in Marriott properties for the benefits of holding elite status - NO BREAKFAST HERE which is not an issue but they should tell you that when booking so you can select the breakfast rate which was only 10 more but 40 now. Customer service is really missing here - they act like they are St. Regis when in reality they are about a AC Hotel level just not as well trained with no breakfast. With no real benefits of elite status stay somewhere else or laugh at the staff as they constantly say we will let the manager know your comments. You can hear people snoring in the next room, the restaurant is under construction too. Just skip nothing worth then a hotel that thinks they are 4 star handing out 2 star service.

Thank you for sharing your feedback regarding your recent stay at The Press Hotel. We sincerely apologize for the disappointment you experienced during your time with us. We greatly value your loyalty as a Marriott Bonvoy member and understand the importance of clear communication regarding benefits. As an Autograph Collection property, we are committed to providing unique high-end Food and Beverage experiences throughout our guests' stays. Depending on the level of membership, guests may receive Food and Beverage credits to be used in our outlets, including breakfast offerings. There are levels of membership that do receive breakfast as part of their Member Benefits. In response to our breakfast-included rates, they are priced slightly higher than those of other brands. This is because we are committed to sourcing and using high-quality local ingredients in all of our food offerings. We believe in supporting local producers and delivering exceptional culinary experiences to our guests. We appreciate your recognition of the efforts of our valet team and bartenders. Their dedication to exceptional service is commendable, and we will be sure to share your kind words with them. Regarding your concerns about noise disturbance and the ongoing restaurant construction, please accept our apologies for any disruption to your stay. We understand the importance of a peaceful environment and will take steps to address these issues to enhance the overall guest experience. Once again, we apologize for falling short of your expectations and thank you for bringing these matters to our attention. We hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back in the future and provide you with a more enjoyable stay.

First time staying here, we were impressed by the look of the hotel when we passed by earlier this year. The good: The room was big, comfortable and clean. We really like the style and the vibe of the hotel. The bad: Don’t plan on sleeping much if you stay here. The bell from the city hall next door rings all night long. Not the hotels fault but they really should have invested in sound proof windows. The pillows are feather pillows, hot and unsupportive. Oh and if you stay during the summer you’ll need to take out a home equity loan to afford it.

As the recipient of a gift card to this downtown hotel, I chose to visit in winter, when room rates are 50% of summer rates. Be aware that valet parking is $40/day, and the (excellent) in-house restaurant is pricey, even for breakfast. My corner king room was very spacious, with outstanding city views from large windows, but aside from one office chair and a low bench, there was nowhere to sit down ! Lounging or TV-watching must be done from the bed. Floors are vinyl, with no rugs, so slippers are essential. Heat was circulated via an HVAC vent located directly above the bed. I mention these design flaws as they affected our overall comfort. Otherwise, we enjoyed the clever journalistic theme carried throughout the hotel, and found staff super helpful and friendly.

I really liked this place. First, with most hotels firmly vanilla, this place feels like someplace new. Formerly a print shop/home for the area newspaper, they keep that feel. Old, manual typewriters all over the place add a nice retro touch. No lines at reception. The room is ample in size. The bathroom is also a good size, with shelves for your 'stuff' and decent lighting. The property appeared clean and well-maintained. Good location. My only critique is that they use those rubber-style pillows that contribute to neck-ache, but maybe a better feather pillow available on request. Next time -- and I do hope there is a next time!

First time in Portland and so naturally this is my first stay at The Press Hotel. I was in town for two nights and picked The Press because it was centrally located and had great reviews/interesting history. I hesitated to book this hotel at first due to the price but decided to splurge since it was my husband's b day weekend. The review will be short since there isn't much to say about this hotel. Overall the staff was friendly, the place was clean but everything else was average for the price per night ($750-$800/night before taxes). For that price, you would expect more/better amenities. A few examples: no water in the rooms or water bottle refill stations, you had to ask the front desk or go into the bar for water. Tea and coffee are only served until about 10:30/11 no bananas/apples or any other free bites of food (in the morning or any time during the day). I booked a King room - large room and it still felt tight and the bed took up most of the room. Tip: there's street parking and other lots around the hotel for $25/day For the price, I recommend also checking out one of the chain hotels in the Old Port district they all looked relatively new, and most were cheaper than The Press while still being centrally located.
