We love the breakfast, the rooms, the owners, and the view of the water. Beautiful gardens also. Southwest Harbor is quiet with a sweet downtown. The first photo was taken from the window of the house. The next shows the rocky coast. The third is a view from the pier in Bar Harbor.

Suzy was an amazing host. Every meal was exquisite in flavor and presentation. Ask for the Norwegian Breakfast. Suzy is very knowledgeable about the local things to do and places to see, she will not lead you astray! This was my first BnB experience and it is one that I will not forget.

When planning a trip, I always try to find lodging that is "right" for us, but of course we don't know for certain until we arrive at the destination. This time, however, it wasn't simply right, it was perfect. The location of the Birches is amazing - waterfront family compound on a quiet street, away from the hustle and bustle...

My husband and I believe travel with our family should be about more than simply reaching a destination- the experience of traveling should weave and create a tapestry of memories that are permanently woven into your heart, touched by the people who's path you crossed along the way. From the moment we arrived at The Birches we knew this was...

My husband and I just returned home after staying a week at The Birches in Southwest Harbor on Mount Desert Island. This was our first stay at a B&B and we would recommend The Birches to everyone, young or old, singles, couples & families. Susi welcomed us into her beautiful home & treated us like family. The charming rooms are...

We felt special from the moment we entered the Birches. Susi understood us and customized everything - from our breakfast to the recommendations for activities and restaurants and even helped us with the reservations. Mike took me along and got me a fishing license and even taught me and my son how to fish. These guys really know the true...

I'm not sure what else I can say that every other rave review hasn't covered. Suzy is the perfect host. She has the gift of being able to "read" the guests and know who is hands off and who needs hand holding. That's a special gift. She knows everything and everyone and has every little detail covered to make your...

We recently visited Acadia National Park from Boston for a quick getaway, hoping to do some hiking and site seeing. We were so impressed with how much the Birches had to offer. The setting, ocean views, charm, food and comfortable rooms were all amazing. On top of that, the warmth and exuberance of owners Susi and Mike were beyond compare....

We have stayed at the Birches twice, most recently over Valentine's Day weekend. Susie, (the owner whose family has owned The Birches for many years is warm, extremely knowledgable about the area, and very present) and Mike are wonderful hosts. The rooms are spacious and nicely decorated, the bathrooms updated and with plenty of hot water, and the living and...
