The Seawall Motel is located on the quietside of Mount Desert Island in the Southwest Harbor area. Overlooking the Atlantic Ocean, the Motel borders the Seawall entrance to Acadia National Park. It adjoins a pine forest and a fresh water pond which provides ample opportunities for birdwatching and scenic photography. The Seawall is a naturally occurring granite, loose boulder and rock seawall with easy shore walks and tide pools to explore. There is a picnic area to watch the waves crash on the rugged shoreline and a spot to watch the sunrise over the Great Cranberry Island. On a clear night, it is one of the best places in the country for stargazing. Just beyond the scenic areas, you'll approach two of the many walking trails of Acadia National Park: Ship Harbor and Wonderland. Each is less than a two-mile hike along the ocean and nature trails. A short drive from these trails is the Bass Harbor Lighthouse that has been guiding mariners with its light since 1858. The dramatic setting, especially at sunset, is a photographer's dream. The Seawall Motel sits directly across from the famed seawall and close proximity to many activities of what the park has to offer. It is a two-story Motel with free Wi-Fi, in-room phones, cable TV and complimentary continental breakfast. These budget-friendly motels has twenty spacious, comfortable, and exquisitely clean rooms with a choice of two-queens or king size beds. A community room is available for all guests to use which includes the vending and ice machine, refrigerator, microwave, and coin-operated laundry machines. The free Island Explorer Shuttle can be accessed from our parking lot for easy travel to restaurants and shops in downtown Southwest Harbor, and to many other locations on the island. Top-rated in TripAdvisor, the Seawall Motel is the perfect place for your Maine vacation! Enjoy the beautiful scenery, the wonderful staff, and freshly brewed coffee ready for you every morning!

Nice quiet area, clean rooms and clean air, fog rolling in, did I say quiet, away from the maddening crowds of Bar Harbor. Paper thin walls, can hear others snore depending on which room you are in but they owners are very accommodating and can be moved if you wants. Continental Breakfast isn’t that good. No eggs, only some wrapped muffins and mini bagels with cheap yogurt. Coffee is undrinkable, watery. Had to spend $30 a day for breakfast and coffee elsewhere. But the price per night if very cool, so it’s not that bad. No fridge in the room but it does have a common fridge with ice maker and some vending machines with laundry so that’s nice. The place is far from everything so that can be a plus or a minus, again no fridge so think about that in terms of planning. There is self parking so it is easy if you drive. They have portable foam coolers which is very nice because you can basically go out for bbq at the picnic area down the street, 5 minute walk right on the ocean. Did I mention that the stars you can see from here, it’s very amazing.

We wanted to provide our own meals, and I hesitated over the fact that the rooms do not have mini fridges or microwaves. In actuality, all was very convenient. The common microwave was quick and clean, and we easily could have used the common refrigerator instead of our own insulated cooler. The little table and chairs in the room were perfect for two, both for our meals and our art-making.

The breakfast area at the front office was well-appointed and we could have skipped bringing our own breakfasts. Coffee was hot and available all day, both regular and decaf.

Simple, clean, comfortable room. Very welcoming and helpful owners.

A friend of mine recommended this place and I definitely understand why! The location is perfect - quiet, short driving distance to places of interest (i.e., dining, Acadia National Park, Bar Harbor) and within walking distance of a scenic coastline. Even though the room was simple, it met all of our needs for our 4 day stay. We had access to hot coffee/tea throughout the day, a simple continental breakfast and a laundromat for cleaning our clothing. Most importantly, every staff member was very friendly and helpful!

Comfortable and homey location on the “Quietside” of MDI overlooking the waves breaking at Seawall. Great value and welcoming hosts! Beds were comfortable and the owners had prepped the room for us by turning on the heat and lights and letting us know we were welcome to arrive early.

We wanted to stay on the quiet side of Mt Desert island and this motel was perfect. It exceeded our expectations. We stepped out of our room each day to the most beautiful sunrise while looking over the ocean. There was a picnic area to have a campfire about 1/2 mile away. There were great run routes and bike routes filled with views of the main coast. Unpopulated hiking trails and swimming lake close by. Vicki and Dave were amazing people who gave us great suggestions on places to go and eat. Despite the Covid, they were able to serve coffee ( great coffee ) and tea outside with individual packages of bagels and pastries to get us started in the morning. Cadillac Mountain and bar harbor were about 40 min away but never felt that long since we stopped along the way for a swim, hike or food . We hope we can make trip back soon and will stay at Seawall motel again.

The Seawall Motel provides very comfortable, friendly lodgings year after year. The past and current owners have a gift for predicting and providing everything a guest needs, while nature provides a stunning setting. Housekeeping is spotless, rooms are good sized, and breakfast is tasty. We return each year to find lovely thoughtful additions to the property: a new gazebo, an inviting garden. We look forward to many more stays at the Seawall Motel!

We had an excellent 2 night stay. Location and view is amazing . Unfortunately it was rainy and foggy for the majority of our stay. We were not able to utilize the fire pit or sitting out closer to the water. We did take advantage of sitting on the covered walkways outside our room. Some mention furniture is dated, but is all still functional and comfortable. Room was exceptionally clean. Bathroom is updated and very clean as well. Newer higher toilets are always a plus.
They have laundry facilities and even provide pods and fabric softener sheets so you don’t have to purchase those.
Typical continental breakfast was great each day. Staff were all very friendly.

Management focuses on a lot of small details many others don’t provide!

Would definitely stay here again if we make it back to this area.

Location, quiet, cleanliness, staff all top notch!!

Thank you so much for your kind review! I'm so sorry the weather didn't cooperate, my heart does always go out for people who come and get rain and fog. I will say, it does provide a different kind of beauty, but certainly not the one we all love and appreciate the most. Sunshine and water views please! And thank you for noticing the small details. Many of our conversations revolve around, "what would we want if we were staying here." It's nice they were noticed. The furniture is something on our radar, as you mentioned it gets the job done, but we hope over time to refresh things as well. We hope you can come back again and we will cross all of our fingers that the weather is better!

I must say the hotel is in a beautiful location and is easy to find. I was not happy to find out there was no housekeeping available. Each morning we took our towels to the laundry and picked up clean ones. The eating area is so small, we were not able to avail ourselves of the free breakfast. We were told to take it outside or to our room where no tables are provided. The rooms are dark and need refurbishing as do the missing plants outside. The people who work in the office were all very nice and informative when asked about the area. My friend called the owners to say that guests should get a discount because of no housekeeping. The owner was unwilling tio acknowledge any of her complaints and hung up on her. Not a place we can recommend.

Dear Sonias, As you are a member of the group that complained above, I will ask that you read that response as well, I think doing so will give you a better framework for the situation. In the meantime, I have addressed your specific points below. **If you felt that the eating area too small, why wouldn't you go directly outside to its attached ocean facing gazebo complete with rockers and small tables? **The rooms are that of a turn of the century motel. It is clean, tidy, friendly, and actually quite bright. I honestly have never heard of the rooms being dark, (well except of course at night). **As far as the plants? It seems our deer enjoy them as much as we do! Lol. They have LITERALLY been coming right up to the doors to nibble. Rest assured though, we have an organic repellent on deck for next season, until then, we'll just have to "en-deer" it. Again, please read the above review response, (to your companion), and I thank you for your time. Best regards, Charlotte

My husband and I spent one night at the Seawall over Labor day weekend. Our room was very clean a bit dated but very nice all the same. The proprietor and all his staff were wonderful. They couldn't have been any nicer or more accommodating if they tried. Hot coffee, tea, juices, and a large variety of bagels, breads, danishes, muffins, cereals, assorted items for breakfast included in your stay that we were unaware of. Located in a great area away from the crowds near Arcadia National Park and the Bar Harbour lighthouse. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for a clean friendly place to stay.

We, my wife and I have been lodging at the Seawall Motel for more than 4 years multiple times a year.
I drive for Island Explorer, a free shuttle serviced that stops in their yard. The accommodation from staff is a 5* rating
from knowledge of the Island to places to see (seawall causeway is 500ft outside their door). Quite at night, perfect for sleeping. Always a salt of sea breeze in the air
Would highly recommend this motel
