Special place. Fabulous food in casual atmosphere, beautiful woodsy lodge, great cabins with rocking chair porches. Nice trails. Great for either staying busy outdoors or reading a book in your cabin or at the lodge. In nice weather, there is plenty of outdoor seating for meals. In my view, it is so much better than the website portrays.

My husband and I along with our dog Bailey love this lodge. We enjoyed our own peaceful cabin for two nights. Delicious muffins and a dog treat were delivered to our door in the morning. One night we had delicious appetizers and salads brought to our cabin for dinner. The second evening we ate at the lodge. My seafood dinner...

We had the pleasure of staying in one of the luxurious yurts on the property. I suppose technically this was "camping" but the experience is actually even a notch above glamping. Champagne was waiting for us in our yurt as we walked in, a gift from Mike and Jan, the gracious owners, to celebrate our anniversary. Likewise, the restaurant provided...

Savage River Lodge is located in Western Maryland, an area of lush mountains and valleys and rushing rivers. On the lane leading in to the lodge we spotted a bear. This was our first time in a yurt, and it was an amazing structure, comfortable and spacious. A short walk to the lodge brings you to a very fine restaurant....

This was perhaps our 3rd or 4th time to stay at this beautiful, rustic yet modern escape. We were here the weekend before Valentines Day to celebrate the occasion. This time, we opted to stay in a Yurt than the Cabin. Quite an experience. The Yurt is about 30 ft in diameter (spacious!) and nice and warm. This was one...

Outstanding property with great hosts. The cabins were perfect with plenty of space and a beautiful porch. Dinner was delicious. "Shut the box", Antelope, wild sausage, stuffed quail, hikes, cards, wine tasting and best of all...no time for TV. We will come back...don't forget to ask about season passes...a great way to be rewarded after four stays in different seasons....

The setting was lovely as were the cabins. However, the management under the guise of "protecting our privacy " failed to even make the bed, much less clean our room while we were away for the afternoon. We then noticed a small note besides our bed advising us to "call" if we would like our room freshened. Having to clean...

Hello Jill L, Thank you for taking the time to review us! It's only through our customers honest opinions do we get better. I'm so sorry that you weren't informed at check in that we only do room freshenings upon request. We have two reasons for doing this. One is to indeed protect the guests privacy. Many guests choose not...

We discovered Savage River Lodge through a random google search and couldn't be happier. The yurt we stayed in was clean, comfortable, and had everything we needed. We stayed two nights to celebrate our 10th anniversary and will definitely return for a future celebration.

This was our first time in a Yurt, and it was fantastic. We arrived in the middle of a spring blizzard, with high winds and blowing snow. The best surprise was the underfloor heating. Bed, sofas etc., very comfortable. The Yurt was airtight and comfortable, although it was great to hear the sound effects of the wind whipping around outside....

Our stay was too brief at SRL. The food was exquisite. We ate like kings! The hiking was a great way to move the body and take in nature. But it's the quiet, the rest, the relaxation that is best! No TV! We played checkers and chess and read books....and slept!! Yes!! Slept!! The bedding was engulf you and you...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Comfort - Privacy - Relaxation. We often hear these words when people talk about the Savage River Lodge. Nestled within more than 700 acres of Western Maryland's Savage River State Forest, the lodge is a peaceful retreat from a busy world. Once you're here, you'll find all the elements of relaxation and comfort--fantastic food, sink-into accommodations, your own private cabin, and exceptional hospitality. Whether you prefer to watch nature from your rocking chair or spend your day in pursuit of your favorite outdoor activity, you'll take home the spirit of the forest...and the Savage River Lodge. Our eighteen luxury cabins and the nearby lodge building, surrounded by the forest, convey a rustic, lived-in comfort. Our amenities and appointments, however are decidedly upscale and infused with a genuinely friendly and relaxed hospitality. ... more   less
