My husband and I discovered this little treasure several years ago. We love how SRL gets so much snow and 30 mins down the road there could be nothing. Everyone is super friendly. It's very relaxing and easy going. My husband travels a lot and this is "our" special place to go when it snows. Even though we haven't been...

Our weekend stay in Yurt #4 was cozy, warm and absolutely peaceful. We were surrounded by 360 degrees of beauty. SRL thought of every detail when they created the yurts. The heated floors were our favorite feature and if it wasn't for the incredibley comfortable and gigantic bed, I would have gladly slept on the bathroom floor; it felt that...

Hello jazz z, You're so lucky you've come in winter! The heated floors just aren't the same without the snow falling. Thank you so much for leaving a review on your anniversary experience! We're partial the beds and Comphy brand sheets ourselves. So glad you've found a special place for the two of you and hope to see you again...

We have been coming to Savage River Lodge since 2004. This visit was our 20th vacation at Savage River Lodge. As usual, it was just a wonderful time. After a long long year of hard work and stress, traveling to Savage River Lodge is a welcome relief and reward. Being outside in the mountains is a quiet that can not...

My husband and I drive between D.C. and Moon, Pa., about five times a year along I-68 in Maryland's panhandle. We sometimes pick an exit at random to get off the interstate and blindly find a lunch place. About five years ago one summer, we saw the sign for Savage River Lodge and turned off. We had gone quite a...

Hello hitherandJuan, Wow, what a detailed and poetic review! We certainly appreciate the time you took to give other potential guests the true feel of what it is like to visit Savage River Lodge. It sounds like you had the quintessential Lodge experience and we're so happy you were able to find rest and relaxation! Hope to see you again...

After a rough start to the weekend (arriving to an impassable road, being directed to a parking spot that was not a parking spot, getting my car stuck on the ice trying to turn around to a new parking spot, waiting a very long time for a shuttle, general impression of disorganization) the lodge itself was very nice. The staff...

Hello jguard85, Thank you so much for the detailed review!! Thanks for looking past our shortcomings at the start of your visit. Snow always throws things into a tizzy, even after 18 years! We're so glad you found our trails, accommodations and food to be as advertised. We hope to provide an escape in the forest from the busy world....

Having spent last Christmas at the SRL my wife and I decided to celebrate New Years in one of their Yurts. Our hope was to relax among the forest setting and enjoy a day or two of hikes among the trails. All of our hopes for spending a mellow weekend came to a crashing (literally) end on the journey along...

Eric - Much as we iterated to Melissa, we do appreciate you taking the time to review us. Again, we are very surprised to hear such a negative review since nothing of the sort was communicated to us during the numerous trips that Mike spent shuttling you in and out to make arrangements. While I personally, was not there moment...

My husband and I just got back from a horrific experience at Savage River Lodge. We arrived at 2:30pm on Friday, December 30th for a three day (the holiday minimum) stay in a yurt. Check in time is 3pm. It had been snowing on and off all day there and as we reached the entrance to SRL at the top...

Hello Melissa D - Thank you for the feedback. We have to say, we are quite shocked that you and Eric both left these very damning reviews. The owner Mike interacted with you and Eric repeatedly and reports that nothing negative in the slightest was said to him during those interactions. Most of which, were spent shuttling you in and...

This is a rather long review, but worth the read. Savage River Lodge is a great place for a weekend (or longer) get away. We've stayed here before and loved it. We've stayed in the cabins and the yurts - and prefer the yurts. If you get a yurt, request one that is not right along the road because it...

As stated in title, this was our third trip to SRL. We have stayed in a cabin and yurt before. We have read their website and their emails and we take a 4x4 truck. Upon entering the main entrance (at 4:00pm --- you can check in as early as 3pm), there is a traffic jam. It snowed maybe 4 inches....

Hello mink20162016, Thank you for taking the time to leave feedback. Unfortunately, that day we received eight inches of snow. The wait was due to a car accident, it was simply not safe to let any cars try to navigate past the wrecked car. Much like on the highway when someone crashes their car, there are usually delays. We understand...

To be fair, I did read the cancellation policy when I booked the cabin a month or so in advance. I did not, however, receive a a subsequent email or telephone call from the lodge with a second confirmation; something I have become used to from most quality accommodations. Unfortunately, I had written the dates incorrectly, so to my dismay,...

Hello jashleyesq, Thanks for taking the time to voice your opinion. It's only through candid comments we're able to improve. Since leaving this review, we know that you are now booked to come in the spring. We do have a strict cancellation policy, very much in line with out boutique hotels and inn accommodations. We appreciate the acknowledgement that you...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Comfort - Privacy - Relaxation. We often hear these words when people talk about the Savage River Lodge. Nestled within more than 700 acres of Western Maryland's Savage River State Forest, the lodge is a peaceful retreat from a busy world. Once you're here, you'll find all the elements of relaxation and comfort--fantastic food, sink-into accommodations, your own private cabin, and exceptional hospitality. Whether you prefer to watch nature from your rocking chair or spend your day in pursuit of your favorite outdoor activity, you'll take home the spirit of the forest...and the Savage River Lodge. Our eighteen luxury cabins and the nearby lodge building, surrounded by the forest, convey a rustic, lived-in comfort. Our amenities and appointments, however are decidedly upscale and infused with a genuinely friendly and relaxed hospitality. ... more   less
