We spend three nights in room 17 which was at the highest end of the non-suite accommodations. The room felt like a beautifully decorated guest room in somebody's home. The walls are covered with art and the rooms are filled with antiques and collectibles. The main house with public rooms and all the guest rooms are chock full of beautiful...

My husband and I stayed here for two nights; this place was stunning and meticulously maintained. The service was truly excellent and the place is simply impeccable. From the moment you pull up out in the front, you are greeted by very elegant young men that carry your belongings inside. The place is very intimate and quiet. The decor is...

If you want pure charm, great attention to details, tremendous gardens and ambience that sails, this is a great choice. The Inn is a Relais and Chateaux property and deserving of the franchise. The service is good, but you may have to ask for somethings rather than it being offered. The location is ideal, right in the middle of restaurants,...

We have recently returned from our stay at The Charlotte Inn to celebrate our twentieth wedding anniversary. We have been here a few times in the last twenty years. If we didn't live so far away, it would have been more often. It is truly a remarkable place. We have traveled the world and always stay in the best places....

I have visited The Charlotte Inn many times over the years, and it remains our favorite romantic destination. The stunningly restored architecture, impeccable period decor, and meticulously maintained grounds have historic character that put the inn in a class by itself. The service is warm and personal, and yet gracious and refined. I cannot imagine what a labor of love...

We purchased our weekend at the inn at a benefit, so hasn't selected a room . We were greeted warmly, and shown a room which, while lovely, was a bit smaller than we like. When I went to the desk to ask for a larger room, and offered to pay for the upgrade, we promptly got a bigger room for...

It was our pleasure to welcome you to The Charlotte Inn, and we're glad you experienced Chef Justin's magic at the Terrace restaurant while you were here. We hope to see you again soon.

This was the 5th or 6th time we have stayed at the Charlotte Inn. Architecture is typical of the grand Edgartown "sea captains' houses" but the Inn goes well beyond typical in the attention that has been given to the decor, the details, and the maintenance of multiple buildings and grounds. The original owners are on the property every day...

A friend of mine and I went for a getaway weekend. My friend had been at the Inn before but it was my first visit. What a gem. The staff could not have been nicer, our room was neat and clean and very charming. We ate in the dining room our first night and the food/service was outstanding. I can't...

We are personally offended by this one seemingly "hatred generated" review of the Charlotte Inn. We have been guests at the Inn on repeated occasions since 2005. If you find yourself in a setting of elegance and finery -embrace it accordingly. in July ( busy MV tourist season) or September (off season) the Charlotte Inn is refined. ( Refined with...

After given time to reflect on this, I apologize for bringing Eliot and his wife into this conversation. That was not my intention. I definitely am not the writer that Eliot and his wife are. This review reflects me alone. I have attempted to remove the previous review, but the current rules don't allow removal of a previous post. So...

We strive to provide a warm welcome for all our guests, and we're sorry your stay didn't leave you feeling welcome and valued. We're disappointed when we don't succeed at our intention. We suggest that travelers read the review by Elliot below, "Excellent service, fantastic food, important clarification" for another perspective on some of the same events.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Listed as one of the "Top 101 Hotels in the World" by Tatler's 2012 Travel Guide and a long-standing member of the prestigious Relais & Chateaux small luxury hotel group, The Charlotte Inn is settled just a half block off Main Street and two blocks from the harbor-front in downtown Edgartown. Among 4 buildings are 17 guest rooms and 2 suites individually decorated with fine antiques in a wonderful English garden setting. The Charlotte Inn provides guests with what we consider the "ultimate luxury" - a glimpse back in time to a more peaceful and restful frame of mind. A visit to The Charlotte Inn - from an overnight or a week vacation - is an opportunity to escape from the hectic, rushed, technology and gadget driven daily routine and enjoy the simpler things life has to offer. With all that Martha's Vineyard has to enjoy as your daily playground - from beaching, boating, fishing, and sightseeing, to fine dining and shopping, to simply strolling along the historic whaling captain’s home lined streets along the harbor and down to the lighthouse, The Charlotte Inn offers our guests a relaxing home away from home to retreat to and an opportunity to cherish life's simpler times. Whether iced-tea on the porch with a good book, chatting with friends and fellow guests on a garden terrace, or enjoying a glass of wine by the fire with your companion in cooler weather, we hope that our guests embrace the opportunity to join us in the experience we work so hard to provide - a getaway from the stress and pressures of today’s fast-paced lifestyle and a chance to enjoy a peaceful reprieve in an atmosphere that is the perfect combination of elegance, luxury and comfort. Nothing satisfies us more than to provide our guests with this experience, and to watch them enjoy, unwind and cherish their time spent at The Charlotte Inn in the way that we prefer and as our adage suggests - "Behind The Times on Purpose". ... more   less
