This is an old school motel that is kept up very well. The owners are fantastic! Our room had a small refrigerator and microwave, a small bathroom, and a very nice king size bed. This is right in the middle off town, so everything is a close walk.

We recently spent 2 days at Shea's Riverside Inn & Motel and were absolutely delighted that we can't wait to return. Clean and fresh, the beds were comfortable, the towels and amenities of great quality, and the location and view from their little beach was just perfect. The service was super friendly and personable, and they went above and beyond to make up for issues that were not even their fault. Gayle and Barry made us feel welcome, and I know they'll do the same for you too. I love the fact that each of the rooms both in the motel part and the inn have a different layout and decor, and that it is nice and uncluttered, yet had everything we needed. I have researched many mom and pop motels, stayed in fewer and only recommend a handful of them, and Shea's Riverside is one I will confidently not only recommend to friends and family, but am looking forward to staying there at again.

Elizabeth, you are a gem! (-: Thank you so much for staying with us and "sharing" in our adventures with Mother Nature! Your patience and "go with the flow" attitude went a long way to making a challenging situation, a breeze to deal with. I do hope to see you again in the future when your travels bring you back to Essex and the Cape Ann area. Gayle

Shea's is a lovely inn where the people are friendly, the accommodations are clean and comfortable, and the area is beautiful. This is the second time I have chosen Shea's for a personal retreat location, and it was exactly what I wanted. I will definitely choose it again.

Room and premises were very neat and clean, and the view out the front door is terrific. Have a coffee or adult beverage from the Adirondack chairs in the sandpit creekside and watch the fishing boats headed out. There are two good seafood restaurants, one next door and the other across the street, very convenient. And a Dunkin Donuts immediately across the street for the early risers. Criticism? The porch lights were very bright and the room shades a bit thin to block out the light adequately. But in all, why stay in a big box, corporate hotel when you can enjoy the quirks and charm of this family Motel?

Thank you so much for your positive feedback and your stay with us. I appreciate your input on the lighting, I recently turned the auto-timed lights back to 10:00 p.m. ( I had them on till 11 for later arrivals) and have incorporated sleep masks in the Motel Rooms too for the few rooms that do not have the room darkening blinds. (-: I look forward to welcoming you back again if future travel plans bring you back to Essex, MA and Cape Ann Gayle
