We had a very negative experience initially and wanted to make others aware that this property operates like an air bnb, not like a hotel as there is no one on site to address problems that arise. We checked in on Saturday and when I turned down the beds around 8pm I noticed that the sheets on one of the beds had two large crusty brownish gray stains on it and clearly had not been washed. I called the main number, which was answered by a remote answering service, and was told that no one is on site after 5pm so I would need to go to the supply closet in the main part of the hotel, find the new sheets and change the bed myself. When I went to the closet, there were sheets for full and queen side beds but none for king beds. I called back and was put on hold for over 10 minutes. By now it was 9:15pm. The woman on the phone got in touch with the manager (who is also no on site) and I was told that someone would be there in an hour to change the sheets. I told her that I had two young kids that needed to go to bed and that an hour wait was unacceptable. She put me on hold again, and then came back and said the manager would be there in 15-20 minutes. The manager arrived at 9:40pm and was horrified at the stains. She changed the sheets herself and told us that the owners run the property like an air bnb so typically no one is on site and guests are expected to be self sufficient. Which would be fine except that they market it like a boutique hotel so I expected there to be service or someone on site to speak to about problems. The manager was fantastic and very apologetic about the situation and said she would speak to the owners about compensating us for the situation. But ultimately they offered a very small token gesture of compensation, especially compared to the $900+ we spent for two nights over Labor Day weekend! We were really disappointed with the start to our vacation because of this experience. The rest of the visit was fine, but I don’t feel as though the way this property is presented is fully honest in terms of guest expectations.

The location alone, facing a public beach with the sound of waves to lull you to sleep, makes The Cove worth it. But they’ve also done a nice job creating a boutique hotel experience-pleasant rooms, crisp linens, fridge, AC, microwave, access to a “Club Room” to sit and relax. Everything now is no-contact, from check in to check out, which means rooms are only cleaned between guests. But when there is a problem (our door handle came off!) a text to management gets someone to your room to fix things pretty quickly. We stayed on the 3rd floor which meant a hike up the stairs but stunning views from wall to wall windows. Other rooms have easy access to multiple porches and Adirondack chairs. Very easy walk to shops and restaurants and so close to the water we didn’t even set ourselves up on the beach; when we felt like a dip we grabbed a towel, walked down, swam, and went up our room to relax! They’re still getting some things set up but we’d definitely stay there again.

We just had a wonderful experience at The Cove. The location is wonderful. The room was huge, very clean and well stocked. The deck overlooks the water which is very relaxing. The happy hour on the deck was great with very professional and friendly staff. The common area is very spacious and has something for all ages. Overall, just a great experience. I would highly recommend it and would give it more than 5 stars if there was an option!

We loved our 3 night stay at Millbrook B townhouse at The Cove! Plenty of room for the four of us adults to spread out (2 bedrooms, kitchen and living/dining room), modern decor, beautiful view of a well cared for park with stream and pond out of the sliding doors with small deck. You can also see the bay from this deck. Just a walk around the corner to main deck of hotel - a deck space overlooking the ocean with comfortable seating. Downstairs is a club room space inside to hang out. Very short walk to Bearskin Neck with restaurants and shops and art galleries. Cute little cafe next door for breakfast called Two Little Birds. 10 minute drive to Gloucester to catch a whale watch cruise. Note: Millbrook B requires use of stairs both outside and inside. Pertty much self serve check-in and check-out - not much interaction with staff, especially during Covid which was okey dokey with us! The staff did check in with us via text and email to see if we needed anything which was very nice.

This hotelier isn’t living in the Pandemic Present. A few weeks before Christmas I made a reservation for four days since I thought it would be pleasant to spend Christmas on the coast. The rate was $101 per night, a nice price I thought. But when the governor increased Covid-19 business restrictions, including restaurants, due to the post-Thanksgiving surge, I decided to stay home and cancelled well within 48 hrs. The Cove at Rockport refused to reimburse my $231.70 downpayment. I am only allowed to use it as a credit for a future stay. Well, starting in 2021 the rate for the same room increases to $250 - $300 per night. That’s more than 164% more than the rate for Dec.! Now my $231.70 credit won’t even cover a one-night stay. This property is practicing bait-and-switch tactics to the extreme. Buyer Beware

Responded 23 Apr 2021
Hello, We're sorry you were unable to stay with us in December. We are saddened to hear that you're unhappy with our discretion to put your credit toward a future stay. We've worked with several guests to rearrange their trips based on the pandemic and as discussed with you, we can alter your dates. Unfortunately, Rockport in season rates differ greatly from our off season December rates. We're happy to apply this room credit to a future OFF season stay, if you'd prefer. Please contact our team to make these arrangements. Thank you
