We stayed here for four nights and had a wonderful stay in the apartment. The food was excellent and the vegetarian option just so tasteful. This is a great location for walking holidays and is a stop off on the coast to coast route.

Carol...thank you for a great stay, a lovely warm welcome and excellent recommendations. Thank you to John for his hat. Suzie wore it the rest of the C2C. The room was clean and comfortable and the breakfast was great. We loved Tweedy's on a warm, gorgeous evening.

Stayed here for four nights at the beginning of August with my family. The hotel was highly recommended by my parents who have been staying here for years, and it lived up to, if not surpassed, expectations. We stayed in the barn annexe and had a lovely comfortable room, with view over the brook / river. All of the staff...

This hotel was on our path whilst doing the coast to coast walk. Although the hotel could do with a bit of a freshen up, everything was fine and we quite liked the old fashioned gong, summoning us to dinner. 2 choices of meals would be better, but they do say that you can call and check what they are...

We stayed here for one night during our Coast to Coast walk. The staff were pleasant but unyielding. My sister and I were given a family room (we had booked a twin) which was huge with one double bed and two 3/4 beds. It was clean and pleasant enough but the bathroom - while clean - was musty and had...

We had an opportunity to enjoy the hospitality of The Royal Oak, despite not staying there. Mid-July 2015, on our way to Borrowdale, our hired car developed a flat tyre a few yards away from The Royal Oak. Unfortunately the hired car did not have the spare tyre we had been promised, and we were stranded at that spot from...

Booked in here to overnight after Day 1 of my Coast to Coast walk. Check-in was easy. All staff were friendly/helpful. This ''inn with rooms'' does a set 3 course dinner at 7pm at which the food was superb, as was the breakfast. The bedroom was perfectly adequate for an "inn with rooms" and I had a private bathroom with...

The hotel is in the small village of Rosthwaite ideally located for the Scafell range, Watendlath and walks around Derwentwater. There are a couple of small sitting rooms as well as a TV room which has wifi for those who need to stay in touch. Breakfast is served between 8 and 9 and is traditional english fare served hot to...

Although the bedroom for our 1 night stay was perfectly acceptable, we found the old fashioned gong summoning to a no choice meal with over regime ting of seating totally out of date and very poor value for money. If ever I stay again I would decline meal and eat next door at Scafell Hotel.

The Royal Oak Hotel is an old building dating back to the 17th Century. Although the interior shows its age, it is clean and comfortable. We were extremely cold on arrival having been forced off the fells (during our C2C walk) at Scarth Gap on the worst summer weather in over 40 years and a portable radiator materialised in our...
