Me and my boyfriend checked in Friday for a 2 night stay. We are locals and was having a staycation. Unfortunately I did not take pictures to back up my review but my bf as my witness this is how everything occurred. When we checked into the hotel we noticed valet parking was an option but for $28 a day. As we walked into the building the decor and staff was very welcoming however I couldn’t help but notice the customers that were staying in the hotel as well smh. Friday night we went to our room on the 7th floor and went inside this beautiful deluxe king suite. The first thing we did notice was the walls were pretty thin seeming there had to be a group next door to us. We literally could hear the conversations and music but it wasn’t a big deal to us. I was about to run some bath water to soak but noticed they didn’t have any bubble bath soap and the shampoo bottle was empty. Unfortunately as we went to go use the sink in the bathroom water came gushing out of the pipe onto the bathroom floor. We called down to front desk immediately and they sent 2 gentleman up to check it out. When the gentleman went into the bathroom and turned the sink on and realized we weren’t lying they immediately informed us to gather our things and placed us in a room on the 2nd floor. Now this room was just as nice but it definitely wasn’t a deluxe room. As we checked the room out I checked everything and noticed a long black strand of hair underneath one of the pillows. It was a big deal seeming neither one of us has long black hair however since COVID I try to give hotels the benefit of the doubt. The ice bucket, cups and coffee maker was all in the bathroom sitting on the sink. We thought that was odd but most importantly unsanitary. Overall the decor and the staff is very nice and professional but seeming the amenities weren’t included and we had a few mishaps I probably would make this hotel a last resort.…
The staff WAS 4-star - very professional and very friendly, but the hotel was lacking. It had history of being grand, but is now shabby. No amenities - luckily had our own corkscrew, no luck with anything glass to drink out of. Definitely going back to the Westin Cadillac next time.
What an unexpected surprise the Atheneum was! My husband came across this hotel on Hotels.com and it deserves 5 stars from the beauty of the hotel to the cleanliness to the customer service and the amenities. Upon arrival, Megan checked us in and her friendliness immediately made us feel welcomed. We had a king suite that was just beautiful (I am sorry I forgot to take pictures!). The hotel is beautifully decorated and has an upscale feel. The hotel is located downtown and within walking distance to many great restaurants and bars. If you’re heading to Detroit, you won’t be disappointed with your stay at the Atheneum.
I would not suggest this hotel. Yes it was nice but now I’m being accused of damage that I didn’t do. And they charged my card 3 different times for $500, $500, and $550. Me and my fiancé stayed one night and we were in the room very little as we explored the city. The hotel is stating that damage was done to the wall, tub and tv. We are both 110 pound females. I can assure you we didn’t put a hole in the tub. That’s insane. And they are not even working with me and I am trying to work with them. As I I did stay there but this damage is not mine. The TV in the front room didn’t work from the moment we walked in so to say that that damage was mine is uncalled for. I would not suggest this hotel to anybody unless they want all their money gone for damages they didn’t do.
The marble work throughout the hotel is stunning and the space is open, airy and luxurious looking. The clientele does not match the beauty and elegance of the hotel space, nor does the ever wafting smell of marijuana throughout. I felt as though I stepped inside a Greek fortress taken over by a house-party. My teenage daughter and I visited the Detroit area to honor the passing of a long time devoted public servant of Detroit. We stayed only 2 evenings, and on our last evening we were awoken at midnight by complete chaos, mass crowds of yelling and screaming coming from the lobby floor (we were on the 6th floor). I feared our building was on fire or an active shooting was about to erupt. I opened my suite door to peer out to see if there was smoke, and saw people yelling obscenities and throwing angry fists. I feared for my daughter and my life. Seven Detroit police vehicles pulled in from my bedroom view, with as many as 14 police officers swarming in. When I called the front desk to find out what was occurring I was told they just had a “security issue.” When we checked out the next morning I was told there was no manager available to talk, and when I called later that afternoon was told that the manager Leo was too busy to talk but would call me back. His lack of response 48 hours later was a complete disregard to our safety and is a reflection of concern and care for his hotel’s reputation and patronage. I do not recommend this establishment to any self respecting individual looking for a relaxing and upscale place to rest.…
