We arrived to a dilapidated, run down place. We gave them the benefit of the doubt & checked in & looked at the room. The carpet was matted & pilled. It obviously was a smoking room. COUGH! We ran as fast as we could. This made the Bates Motel look good.

We're drawn back to Birchwood Inn time after time for nearby skiing and the beauty of the area. The Inn's location, near Harbor Springs, has a scenic, safe, secluded feeling. It sets on a country lane, a couple of miles outside the traditional summertime destination, which is the village of Harbor Springs. It reminds me of a New England village....

It's not a chain, it's not brand new, it's not pretentious, it's neither slick or fancy, but these are qualities I try to avoid in a hotel, so in that sense the Birchwood Inn is, from my standpoint, just right. The staff are very helpful, friendly, and capable. The rooms are spacious and comfortable, each one has its own little...

My friends and I just finished a painting workshop this week. The owners, staff and facilities were great. The staff went out of their way to help us with what ever we required. The rooms are nostalgic and extremely clean. They also have a heated pool. The breakfast had eggs, rolls, bagels, coffee and juice. The location is beautiful surrounded by horse...

We love traveling to beautiful northern Michigan and have stayed at numerous B&Bs and chain hotels. This rustic and unassuming hotel made out trip so much more enjoyable. Why? The cost was so reasonable that we had more money budgeted for some of the many more opportunities that the area offers! It was fun coming home with homemade mustards, beef...

We were looking forward to three nights at this Inn. We were disappointed with the mattress (the kind you both roll into the middle and end up holding on to the sides), the pillows seemed as if they were filled with rolled socks. the toilet barely flushed, the tub was dirty, "breakfast" uneatable- with the cheapest coffee and stale bagels....

I've stayed at the Birchwood Inn several times; in both the summer and winter. And I've read the reviews; both positive and negative. So let me sum it up this way. If you're looking for a shiny new resort with all the finest finishes and latest 'up north' decorating fashion, then you will probably be disappointed with the Birchwood Inn....

The Birchwood Inn has just what you want in a family-friendly motor lodge -- clean, comfortable rooms; a we-love-pets attitude; lots of knotty pine and board games in the great room; and a restful setting overlooking Lake Michigan and horse pastures. Sure, it's a little dated and could use some freshening here and there, but it's not the place to...

My husband and I stayed at The Birchwood Inn on October 13-14. Their rates are reasonable and the room was everything we hoped for; super clean, retro style décor, friendly staff, quiet and close to The Tunnel of Trees. It was an amazing getaway and brought us back in time.
