Our first time in Mackinac and we stayed at Mission Point over the Fourth of July during a covid year. We loved the location of Mission Point- a mile outside of downtown and has the best places to sit and relax on Lake Huron. The room was small (two beds) and had an AC window unit so you know it’s old. The pool was very small, but we are used to resort pools (Fairmont, JW). The pool can fit maybe 20 people max. There are not enough seats for everyone. You can order and bring food and drinks from inside to the pool but there isn’t anyone picking up dirty plates/glasses. I would say that if you want a nice pool then stay at the Grand Hotel. The food was mediocre but we ate here often bc it was convenient. Overall the outside amenities are nice- well kept grounds, nice view of Lake Huron with Adirondack chairs, away from the bustle and bustle. It’s also on the opposite end of the island where the fireworks are. We walked to town every day. We loved Mackinac and plan to be back but not sure we will stay here again. Not terrible but not fantastic.

Hotel's Favourite
We have visited Mackinac Island for years and most of those stays have been at Mission Point Resort since they allow dogs. It never disappoints. The family suite was well worth the added expense since we have two teens traveling with us. (This was the first time we splurged on the room. So glad we did.) It is always so beautiful and love that the location is outside the hustle and bustle of downtown. Due to Covid, we rarely went into town this trip because it was a bit more crowded than we felt comfortable with. We felt safe at Mission Point.

We enjoyed a 2 night, midweek stay at Mission Point. We love staying outside of downtown, away from the hustle and bustle of Main St. It's nice to make that 3/4 or so mile walk back to the resort after spending time in town. This year with Covid many resort amenities were closed and the restaurant/bar menu was limited due to their decision to close early for the season. We took it in stride through knowing ahead of time that it would be a different kind of stay. The weather was perfect and we spent most of our time outside on the great lawn watching freighters go by and listening to music. Our room in the main building was simple, clean and had everything we needed. The staff was great and we had no problems. This remains my go to place to stay in the island.

We were notifed via phone at 1135a on our check in date that our reservation was being partially cancelled due to a decision to close the resort early. As it was nearly noon on the same day, our family of five was already in the UP after a 7 hr drive. Brandon (property manager) was not apologetic nor was there any offers of accomodation. He referenced COVID19 as a reason, but it is odd for the resort to remain open for 2.5 days over a presumably busier weekend before choosing to close if that was indeed accurate. This was completely disruptive to our vacation as we had to both locate another option last minute as well as pack our belongs and transfer (without having a home base between check out at 11 and check in at 4). No offer to discount, offer food voucher, or accomodate/apologize in anyway. After the initial call, we did not hear from Brandon or management again - not at check in, checkout or anytime. It was clearly our problem. Communication was terrible overall. Generally, we found the resort more run down dorm than nostalgic resort. The room was really sparsely appointed. Additionally, it would be helpful to know what ammenities are open or fully operational prior to guests booking. We were looking forward to glow golf and other amenities only to find them closed even earlier than the resort. Similarly, Chianti was only serving Prie Fix not the full menu as advertised. We did not see a consierge at anytime and were hoping for assistance with trail riding. We believe this is a reflection of management/operations and not staff in anyway - who were kind throughout. We chose MP based on location and the ability to book a slightly bigger suite room. After unexpectedly staying at the Bicycle Inn and visiting the Grand Hotel there is no question there are much better lodging options on the island. We had a wonderful visit overall and highly recommend Mackinac Island just not Mission Point.

Thank you for taking the time to leave us this feedback. We do apologize for the disappointment in your vacation; please know that the decision to close early was not one made lightly. We did everything that we could to inform arriving guests as soon as possible on Saturday, October 17th via phone, email and text message about our decision. Since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, Mission Point has been a leader in taking precautionary measures and with cases on the rise in the region, we felt it was our obligation to guests, staff and fellow island residents to close one week early.  Unfortunately due to COVID this year, we did have to take out some of the amenities typically found in our guest rooms - we apologize that you were not able to experience our standard. We also do our best to inform incoming guests about what on property will be open prior to their arrival but this feedback is helpful as we improve for the future.  It's great to hear that you enjoyed your time on Mackinac Island and we appreciate your kind words about our team. We do hope to welcome you back to the island in the future and thank you again, for your feedback!

We had an excellent time during our stay at Mission Point Resort. The staff was courteous and helpful, the staff at the restaurants were also friendly and thoughtful. The resort was very good about following CDC guidelines for safety. We felt safe and that everything was spic and span and we did not have to worry about our safety in contracting Covid. We were most thankful and impressed that they upgraded us to a King Lakeview room! We had not asked if we could be upgraded, but said they had the rooms available and wanted us to enjoy them! That was a lovely treat! My favorite part about this place is the adirondac chairs out on the expansive lawn with such a beautiful view of the lake! Magical! (However, I would not recommend coming this late in the year, it was a bit chilly for my taste. Our next trip will be during the summer. But I will say the leaves were absolutely astonishing this time of year!)
