Coming through the desert in the middle of nowhere, this feels like an oasis. The staff is very well trained and very friendly. The buffet could have a bit more variety for the prize charged. But I will definitively be back soon.

This place has an amazing view of the canyon, especially from the pool. Where you also get a lovely sunset. Though this place is a total maze and you sort of have to figure out where the pool is (a very long walk) it's worth the workout. The wireless connection at this place is beyond slow, customer service is alright. The oryx... More

The ranking reflects the combination of a great setting, good accommodation offset by fair service and average to poor food (though on the last two days things improved quite markedly) which at the prices charged is below expected standards. This is pity as the Lodge offers a location within 20k of the Fish River Canyon gate and the facilities could... More

We were pleasantly surprised to find lawns between the chalets (there was only sand when we visited in 2003), and found the service, food and accommodation still top class. Add to this the spectacular scenery and you have a wonderfull destination - worth every cent!

This is the first Gondwana lodge. It doesn't blend in so well as its neighbouring Cannon Village, as the colours are brighter . The chalets are built into the rock face . Lovely views . Food is excellent . Really nice gift shop - with a very honest lady- she had overcharged me and sought me out whilst I was... More

Unique location near Fish River Canyon. Rooms all independent chalets well designed into natural rock formations. Like the buck wandering through the property. Had an early departure before breakfast was served so staff organised us a packed breakfast to take away with us. Pool setting spectacular, though we didn't get to use it as it was really cold in winter.

The Canyon Lodge was a karakal farm in 1913 and the original farm house is now the main part of the lodge. It looks a bit Middle Eastern! The chalets are all stone and thatch so it is a bit schizophrenic, but we LOVED it! The welcome was lovely.....the Namibians are really friendly. Our room (#24) was right at the... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The harsh rocky desert region at the southern tip of Namibia has made many a traveller think that God has forgotten this land. Not so, just 20 kilometres from the main viewpoint of the Fish River Canyon, leading off the dusty D324, you’ll find the Canon Lodge, an oasis seemingly in the middle of nowhere. The Canon Lodge is one of two existing accommodation centres in the expanse of the 530 km² Gondwana Canon Park. Tall weather-beaten granite boulders mark the location of the lodge and forms an integral part of the overall design. The 20 thatch stone bungalows are dotted among the kopies and are beautifully designed, with the walls shaped around the hills so that boulders protrude into your room, cool to the touch and smoothly rounded by an eternity of erosion. ... more   less
