I wanted my group to stay here as it is in an old Madrasa and I felt full of history and staying in the old town would be marvelous...but was pleased we didn't There are two standards of rooms basic and deluxe...you should opt for the latter. The rooms smell musty with low ceilings and no windows...there was a feeling...

The Orient Star hotel is located in an ancient madrassah, in the old city. Our room was windowless and had a low ceiling, but we soon get used to it and didn't feel claustrophobic anymore. The room was very comfortable and had all ammenities. The breakfast and dinner were served in an adjacent building, also a lavishly decorated madrassah hall....

small and steep staircases, but it is an old madrasa (qoran school) with thick walls, very cozy rooms. The whole place and the old town as such give you the impression of walking through it all - one hundred years ago. Amazing place, very central

The Orient Star is located in an old Madrasa inside the old, historic city. We were there in the off-season, so after the sun went down most of the tourists left the historic town and we were able to wander all on our own. The hotel building was charming and quaint. I would have given it an excellent rating, but...

We stayed at this hotel in October this year, when it was already cold. Our room was very cold and we didn't see heating anywhere, luckily the receptionist brought us a small but efficient heater and, as we had a suite, we moved to a room with a heater installed in it already (the first room didn't have it), so...

I was originally hesitant about this place as the reviews were very mixed. But as I entered through the west gate, my jaws just dropped. I was even more astounded that the monument in front of me was my hotel! Originally an old madrasa now converted to a hotel, everything is just spellbinding. You really get a feel of what...

This converted madrassa is an atmospheric place to stay and a wonderful introduction if it is your first stop in Uzbekistan. We had a room on the first floor which overlooked the old city on one side, on the other side we were almost able to touch the turquoise tiled Kalta Minar. Breakfast in the adjourning madrassa was fine, wifi...

Staying at the old madressa-turned-into-a-hotel was a treat. The staff are so welcoming, polite and accommodating. The workmanship of the entrance foyer and the breakfast room is stunning. All in all, a great experience.

There are hotels with more luxury and brighter rooms in Khiva, no doubt. But if you look for something extraordinary which can't be found anywhere else this is your place. They do have a lot of bus tourists, they are not always friendly at the reception. But once you are in your room with mud and clay walls and round...

Located in a former Madrassa, the Orient Star is a very attractive place to stay. The location is great too as it is just inside the main gate to the Ichan Kala. You have to understand that the rooms are the original cells from the Madrassa so they are fairly spartan but this is a significant part of the charm....
