This is a typical Medival city at the foot of a fortress on the slopes of the riverbanks of Gironde. Al the idilic rest of a flowing river, the sounds of larks and other birds and man playing petanque near the ferry station. Hotel clean and friendly in a real "a la campagne" atmosphere. Food and drinks fresh and regional and thus fantastic. Real value for money in the down to earth French way. A good stopover on a trip.

I agree totally with the 2008 review. We too thought Blaye would be idyllic too, so wrong. Accommodation in the town was very expensive and Auberge Du Porche at 75 Euros was the cheaper. My face dropped when we entered the room. Whilst big in size, the decor was appalling, so dated. We also came to the conclusion that it had recently been decorated. All it needed was plain walls, nice bedding and some decent bedroom furniture and it would be fine (and worth the money). The bathroom had no fixed showed or shower screen, so showering with the hand held shower left the bathroom flooded!
The bed was very comfortable and the outside shared space made the place bearable.
The hotel has a restaurant which was ok, food was standard grub nothing special.
Blaye should be followed in brackets by Boring! The Citadel is nice to walk around for an hour, the town can be walked around in 15 mins. Nothing was open past 10.00pm. The town's market was good.
The reason it cost us a lot of money - continuing our journey we avoided anything that resembled the Auberge or was 3 stars!

Stayed for 1 night end route to visit family, and I'm so glad I chose this place.
We were greeted by the owner that not only understood my terrible french, but spoke very good English.
The room was large, bright and very clean..the bathroom was clean and bright, with a separate wc which was either a plus or a minus depending on your point of view.
The bed had a fabulous memory foam mattress which afforded an excellent nights sleep, there were 4 choices of breakfast I chose the express which was plentiful.
The only downside was the lack of restaurant in the evening which was only a minor disappointment as if the room and breakfast were anything to go by would have provided an excellent evening meal..this does not warrant a whole star loss but I can't give 1/2 stars
So to sum up an amazing hotel I'd be happy to stay in again

We came to Blaye (just south of Bordeaux) thinking it would be a lovely town on the banks of the beautiful Gironde. Well, the town isn’t lovely, the Gironde here is wide, flowing and muddy, and the only thing worth doing is to spend a couple of hours walking around the Citadel. The river bank next to the Citadel is a magnet for motor caravans.
We stayed at the Auberge Du Porche, 5 rue Ernest Régnier, 33390, Blaye, Tel: 0033 557422269, www.auberge-du-porche.com. You can park your car outside the front of the Auberge. This is a typical traditional auberge, rather dark inside but clean. It is next to a busy road so can be noisy in the evening as the boy racers test their bikes! French breakfast OK at €6.5. It is a couple of minutes walk to the Gironde and a couple more to the Citadel.
We wouldn’t come back to Blaye!

Stayed here for one night. Hotel is in a great location and staff are friendly.
Room is well equipped and generously sized and was a superior room.
We had the express breakfast which was enough to set us up for the day but there are plenty of other breakfast options.

This is a very pleasant picturesque well equipped and furnished small old caoching inn just off the central area of Blaye. My rooms were perfect in every aspect. The augergiste Christine is most helpful and accommodating in her duties. If travelling by road, garage facilities or parking are easy. The rail link with the main line closed in 1938 and from my enquiries there is no bus connection to St Mariens - St Yzan SNCF station. So if travelling from/to Bordeaux you'll need to take bus &/or tram.

Nice little county auberge with the rooms arranged around a first floor terrace. Our room was large, quiet, clean and well appointed. It is located one block off the Main Street and the Citadel and very close to the ferry terminal if you plan to cross the Girond to Medoc. As we were catching the early ferry (7:15, the next one at 10:00), our hotelier made us up a lovely breakfast tray and left it in our room the evening before. Will stay here again if I am in Blaye.

This is the 3rd time we have stayed in this little gem of a Hotel and we keep coming back because of the lovely staff, the food, the good value for money, being very central and ideal for when we are picking up wine in the area. So far we have stayed in 3 different rooms all being lovely and very french. Over the years the rooms we have stayed in has been updated with new bathrooms. The restaurant is fantastic and we had hoped to eat in it yet again but unfortunately the chef was ill so the restaurant was closed. We had a lovely fish restaurant recommended instead. Blaye itself is well worth a visit due to the Citadel and has a marked on Saturdays.

A pleasant little Auberge with a great welcome from the manager Christine, the restaurant menu is good and well presented and good value, close to the ferry which takes you to the Medoc wine area, a good day out. Christine is happy to suggest things in the area to visit, notably the magnificent Citadel, Bourg and ofcourse the many Chateau du Vins! This would be okay for a short stay stop over it is not a holiday destination for a family, not much going on.
