Detailed Reviews
This review is for the "luxury suites" only. I have not stayed in the regular cottages.
There are 8 luxury suites, 7 of which are available. There are four on the ground floor and 4 on the 2nd floor. The rooms are spacious with a very comfortable bed, adequate AC, a jacuzzi tub, and a stand up shower. The jacuzzi is in the main room with a full mirror along the length. It is too small for two people at once. The back door opens up right onto the beach. You can hear the water pounding the shore if you leave the windows open. The room is done up in a Mardi Gras theme and is cleaned daily. The rooms do not have any musty smell, stray sand or beach bugs. The steps leading to the 2nd floor are kind of steep so choose the ground floor if stairs are an issue. The mini-fridge has a small freezer section - good for a half bag of ice or so.
The beach is large enough for most of the clientele. If a large group bring their toys it can get a bit close but there is still room for most people. We had the entire beach to ourselves one recent Saturday afternoon (clear blue sky in the 90's). Other days there were 3-4 groups of people all in their own private world. Note that several of the beach chairs are broken or covered in "stuff". Bring lots of towels and you may want to consider a sun umbrella.
This is the aspect that makes Stefan's great. You generally don't have to worry about teenage antics, drunken parties. leering or shaming. It can get a bit rowdy if a large group rents the place, but I've only seen that happen once in several visits. Generally it is older families or people with young children.
The aspect of Stefan's that drops the stars is the wifi/phone service. This is something where Stefan is way out of his depth. Once you get off the road forget about having cell tower service. With a strong wind you may get a bar or two but generally nothing. Stefan does have site wide WiFi that provides decent coverage throughout. However it is outdated and he does not know how to maintain it. We routinely found that we could not get an address from his router because all the leases were used. This left us in a lurch several times because family could not reach us. It leaves a lot to be desired in an emergency situation. (Note: by the end of the trip I had figured out that I could force the WiFi connection by taking the connection off DHCP and using a static address that ended in 100.)
Stefan and Jennie do a great job of keeping the property up but they are not always there to respond to problems. For instance we had a problem on a Sunday morning and there was no way to deal with it until they got back from church. I don't have a problem with them going to church, but nobody was on site to deal with the problem. Again, I'd hate to see what would happen in an emergency in this situation.
In the end, I think that the price is a bit too high for what you get. We did have a wonderfully relaxing time free of cares. The room was very good but not great. The beach is very good and private - but is it worth the price when worrying about the kids back home? I'd gladly add a star back on if the price was about $30/night less.

The cottage itself was comfortable with a retro vibe, but I was very disappointed with the customer service. The morning we were checking out the owner/manager was banging on the door telling us we had to get going because she had to pay her housekeeper. This was at 9:45 checkout is at 10:00. She stood outside watching us pack up our bags and loading up the car. Extremely rude. If you want your customers out before checkout time, communicate that at check in. There are plenty of other beautiful places along lake Huron you can stay where the resort will actually appreciate your business.

Stefan"s is one of the nicest Lake Huron waterfront resorts, well maintained, beautiful beach and gracious hosts. Summertime fun for the entire family or book for a fall color tour. You will not be disappointed.

This resort has something for everyone, young and old. From a couples getaway to a family reunion, it can all be done here. There are waterfront suites all with a Mardi Gras theme. There are also individual cottages and duplexes. The beach is huge and the chairs are a plenty. You can't beat the sunrises that you see there. Their is a dining hall that you can use for any large parties that you may have or if there is inclement weather. They have play scape"s for the little ones. You are greeted with a gift and some home made coffee cake. There are waterfront fire pits for those star gazers. Saving the most memorable thing for last was the cleanliness of the entire resort. The host and hostess are so sweet, anything you need, they will find a way to accommodate you. So close to the lovely city of Oscoda, Cedar Lake or a nice float down the Au Sable River. Check out their facebook page, there are many pics and videos giving you a tour of the resort. This place is meticulously clean.
