A restaurant, the check in desk and pro shop are a short drive from the rooms. The check in process was handled quickly and efficiently.

The one-bedroom suite had a Jacuzzi, kitchen appliances and utensils, as well as a balcony. However, the room key did not unlock the back door leading to the balcony.

Golf themed wallpaper decorated the walls of the living room and bathroom. The living room also had a golf themed couch. Overall, it was a fairly spacious room, with an average decor.

“The “Wee Links” – a short par 3 practice course for resort guests to practice at – as well as The Serradella Course, are seen from the balconies.

It was required to switch rooms for the last night of the stay. However, the Jacuzzi in the new room did not work that well.

Because early June was days just before peak season began, a great deal was obtained for staying here and playing golf.

Golfed the Gailes which was interesting with all the heather and pot bunkers. The sand traps needed attention and the fairways were spotty. Also golfed Blackshire which was cut through the woods and in good shape for the most part. Greens were challenging. Staff at both courses were very pleasant and helpful. We had a Groupon which made it affordable. We would probably golf there again as long as we didn’t have to stay onsite. The room was dated and not very clean. Leaves on the floor, a bloody bug squished on the wall, dusty end table and empty beer cans under the bathroom sink. No hairdryer and when asked about ice we were told they would get us a bag from the clubhouse for 2$. Just needed some for a drink…..not a cooler. Would not stay here again.

Our group has been playing and staying for the past 25 years plus. The challenging tracks are very appealing to us. The greatest strength is the way the staff from Craig on down treat us. This year the kitchen was scheduled to be closed, the staff knowing we were still out stayed and served us a great meal and drinks well beyond the normal time. Little (or big) things like this always make us pick Lakewood Shores! A great value and great courses.

I spent 3 days and nights at the resort with 17 other players in my group. The rooms smelled horrible when entering but they were clean. Refridgerators in the rooms did not keep anything cold. All three courses bunkers are gravel pits with golfball and baseball sized rocks in them. Clubhouse is way outdated. Breakfast was included in our package but it was not stated it was continental. If you wanted the real food they charged extra. Driving range had ankle high grass to hit off and you had to pay for balls. Staff was nice enough. 6 pack of beer was $36 dollars which is ridicules. Had a great time despite the BS put that was due to the people I went with. Ate in town so not to give this 1992 has been resort anymore money.

Room Tip: Don't waste your money! Who ever owns this resort has not put any money into the courses in years!

We played here 20 years ago and loved it, and were looking forward to a return trip. Not sure which was more disappointing, the room or the courses. "Tired" is the best word I can think of for the whole place. Other than the jacuzzi which was very nice, the room really needed updating. And cleaning, especially now! We should not be seeing spider webs in conspicuous places -- it's not like we were looking for them.
The Gailes and the Blackshire are tremendous layouts, but the conditions take away from the enjoyment. I don't have a problem with "hard and fast" on the Gailes, but I don't think that's what we saw. The greens on the Blackshire were a disaster. Our cart on the Gailes was a jalopy that I'm surprised we were able to coax through the 18. Beverage cart never made it our way on either course, which is especially a problem on the Gailes when you're not at the clubhouse after 9.
This is no fault of the resort's, but the language flying from the men and the obnoxious yelling and laughing from the few women out there was a bit annoying.
Maybe Lakewood Shores is aiming to be more of a value resort than a nice one, and that's unfortunate because there is so much potential there. Seems more like hillbilly heaven than the quality place we remember. We had rain our last day and so have a rain check. But I doubt we'll return.

I normally do not post reviews but I was compelled because we got swindled. We had a group of 16 guys for our annual golf get-away. We picked Lakewood Shores...don't EVER stay or play here!!!! We were delayed by 1 hour on our 8:30 tee time on Saturday because the starter placed a 4 team scrabble on holes 16, 17, 18 and 1...stupid!!! The courses were in horrendous shape. Gigantic patches of dead, brown grass throughout each fairway - either burnt or diseased. Bunker edges were collapsing with rocks that were softball size. Carts paths are rocks with a mixture of dirt with pot holes the size of some of the bunkers. The golf staff didn't know what they were doing either. Beverage cart consisted of a golf cart with a travel size cooler sitting in the passenger seat. By the time the cart girl came around, she had less than 6 drinks available. The rooms were ridiculous with a tiny beverage cooler for a refrigerator. Small living room with a 19" TV. The driving range was a joke. Divot marks and dirt with very little grass to hit off of. Most of the driving range balls had cuts in them. Most of the golf carts either had dented rims, busted shields and cracked shells and if you were lucky to get one that had decent brakes, you were lucky!!! This place has not been updated since they opened and is a complete joke of a resort. It is too bad because we played there about 15 years ago and thought it was great. The owner(s) obviously do not invest 1 cent back into the course. This was such a disappoint. I would not play here again if I had a free lifetime membership. AVAOID AT ALL COSTS!!!

The courses we played are great for a fall weekend up north. The rooms are beyond disgusting. After opening the door and stepping inside I immediately booked an accommodation elsewhere. The rooms are not just outdated, they smell and are not clean. There were dead bugs smashed on the wall next to the door. The linens were wrinkled and musty below the exceedingly old bead covering. There is no way I would have brought any belongings into the room or touched the beds. Come to golf, but stay somewhere else.

Played the course (Sarendella) a lot when stationed at Wurtsmith AFB. The course itself is still fine, staff friendly, and the course pretty empty. However, we, and the groups behind us, got stuck behind two foursomes of 'golfers' who were just out to drink and listen to their radios very loud. It took 6 hours to play 18 holes: unacceptable. These groups held up the whole course and were driving their carts over the greens and tee boxes. They would smack many balls into the woods, and then spend 10 minutes looking for it, and not let people play through. The course needs a RANGER who actually enforces speed of play and golf etiquette. It really ruined the day.

After carefully reading other reviews and the web page for Lakewood Shores my wife and I were very excited to go there. The web page said they had 4 resturants, private beach and the rooms were well appointed. Reality is none of the staff knew anything about the beach or the 4 resturants. They knew they had one resturant. The first day we arrived around 3 PM and decided to check out Occoda and drove through the town and stoped and walked out the pier on Lake Huron. We then decided to go back to Lakewood Shores for dinner and upon out arrival was told that the resturant was not open. They suggested a resturant in Oscoda. Golfing was okay, not resort golfing. The room was very disappointing but clean. No hair dryer, no ice, no king bed. The staff was friendly and the golf was well organized. This place is a 2 star hotel at best and clearly does not deserve a resort title.

We spent last weekend here for a couples golf get together. We had approximately 14 couples this year and played all 3 courses. We had been here with the same group 2 years prior during the Covid shutdown. I don’t want to compare this visit from the last because I don’t think that would be fair. Starting with the rooms, they were actually quite nice. Not The Ritz but clean and comfortable. This is the 3rd time that I have personally been at the resort. Finding the front desk if you have never been here is virtually impossible. It is not marked at all. No signs anywhere. The front doors are not very inviting. And the area around the main building and the landscaping is a bit beat up but I’m a bit anal about things like that. We played all 3 courses and I thought they were in pretty good shape. Having 3 courses at one resort is definitely a plus. And one last negative thing. The drink prices on the course were ridiculously high. $6 for a Bud Light? No thanks. The food was good at breakfast and our one dinner was also good. I had the ribs. With that being said, we will probably be back next year and I hope I see some improvements in my said negative comments. And I’d like to say that the staff was nice and helpful. Cheers.
