This place is very lovely. It is right on the beach and the owners are very kind an genuine you almost think they are guests when you arrive. I love how each cabin has its own personality and the owners have done an excellent job at restoring the vintage charm of the property. The location is great. I like how it is in the middle of no where but just close enough to various Michigan destinations. The lake is nice to swim in thought a bit rocky in some places. It feels like an old camp where friends and families can gather and feel safe and comfortable.

Oakapiney was exactly what we were hoping for! The owners, Sue and Tom, were friendly and knew the area. The cabin had a beautiful view of the lake and had it's own area to sit outside and relax. There was a wonderful wood swing and wood adirondack chairs near the water and the fire pit. The decor was rustic, warm and comfy. We love the outdoors and found many things to do in the area - golf, hike, kayak, visit the Ocqueoc Falls, attend the Rogers City Nautical Festival. At the end of our fun-filled days, we looked forward to going back to the cabin to relax. We would definitely stay at Oakapiney again!

I've actually spent three vacations here. First when I was 6 or 7, again when I was 12 or 13 and again in 2016 and there's a reason we've chosen to go back. First of all if you aren't familiar with it, the Lake Huron side of Michigan is more quiet than the Lake Michigan side, which is great when you're looking to just kick back and relax. The cabins are all retro rustic which over the years has not changed. Of course over the years upgrades have been made to roofs, furniture, plumbing and paint but the cabins have still retained their rustic quaint charm. No TV, but who needs one when you have you're own beach as well as other things to check out in the surrounding area. They do have WIFI though and they do also provide charcoal grills and a picnic table for each cabin. Some folks may not give such a place 5/5 but considering what it is and what it's intended to be it's fantastic. Only thing I might mention is that the bathrooms could be a little better but even so their not terrible (still have a normal toilet and sink as well a shower, no tub). If you can do a campground shower house, just think of the bathrooms in each cabin as being maybe one notch up from those. As I mentioned earlier the cabins (can't remember exactly how many but I want to say there are 6 total), have access to a beautiful beach which I highly recommend getting up early and relaxing to watch the sun rise. There is a community fire pit out around the beach as well which makes for some fun summer nights. We actually got to sit around the fire and had some former members of the New Christy Minstrils (look them up) play for us vacationers and it was a great time. Other things nearby to check out...…..There's not much in Ossineke but there is a small IGA which will most of your grocery needs. Another place to check out in Ossineke is Connie's Café, their breakfast is great and they have cinnamon rolls the size of your head (not kidding). Alpena is the closest town of significant size about 10-15 minutes north and you can pretty much find anything there, especially any grocery needs you may not have been able to get at the IGA in Ossineke. Mackinaw City and the Mackinaw Bridge is 2.5-3 hours north up 23 (worth the drive btw) and there are plenty of lighthouses to check out (most of which can be toured/climbed) up and down route 23 from Tawas City to Mackinaw City. The place has changed hands one or two times over the years we have gone but they've all (including the most recent owners) all been great people.
