We have 28 motel rooms and cabins of multiple sizes spread out over 2 acres in downtown Port Austin, just 3 blocks south of the Harbor. Our units vary in size and amenities as do our prices to meet a variety of budgets. There are two common areas on the property with fire pit, picnic tables and charcoal grills for the guests to use. Our outdoor heated pool is nestled between the motel rooms and cabins. We are seasonal, May through mid November. Located in the quiet section of the Village, we are walking distance to the Farmers Market, restaurants and shops.

Detailed Reviews

What a well run little motel . It was perfected located on the quieter side of town although beach was only 3 blocks away. Very clean. Great staff there too that even gave us a free bag of ice. This place is simple but is all you need.

Clean, older hotel located a few blocks from town. Personnel all friendly. We went the last weekend they were to be open so pool had closed but looked nice. Within walking distance to downtown. Quiet while we were there. Good water pressure and hot!

From the outside, The Blue Spruce might not look like the most inviting place. Inside, the rooms are modern and well kept.
This is an "old school" place with real door keys, TVs that are not flat-screen etc. But everything works and they have pretty decent Wi-Fi for such a remote location.
There are other good reviews of The Blue Spruce, so feel free to browse them and book your room with confidence.

Nice room but did a reservation online and booked ground level floor room because my husband has bad knees (70 years old) but they change it on use to a 2nd floor room. Not happy with them for that. Beware when making reservations online with them.

When traveling to Port Austin, there are not many hotels/motels to choose from, but the Blue Spruce is not too bad. We stayed in the "new" portion of the blue spruce, so I can only comment on that area, because my search for reviews online have found some "not-so-great" reviews on the older portion.
We stayed in room 15 (2nd floor, far right) for 3 nights. The room was a typical room with a queen bed, a futon, a small table with two chairs, refrig, and microwave. We were basically just sleeping there, so it was good for that. It was nice that it had A/C also.
The definition of daily cleaning to this hotel, is basically them replacing your towels daily, which was fine with us since, again, we were just sleeping there.
We would stay here again.

We rented a 2 bedroom cabin for 3 nights and had a great stay. Very clean, everything you need provided or the owners will tell you where to find it! Close to the beautiful marina, beaches, shopping and restaurants. We enjoyed the open area with picnic tables and swings. We also used the fire pit one night for a great time. Looking forward to staying again!

Port Austin, MI is at the very tip of the Thumb. The beaches, boats, restaurants and shops just scream vacation paradise. It's an easy drive from our home in Toledo, OH. with the added bonus of being cooler during the torrid heat of July. The Blue Spruce was chosen based on other reviews I found online. It proved to be an excellent choice based on cleanliness, room size, and wonderful pool. The owner is warm, friendly, and helpful. It's all been recently updated and renovated. In the future I would not even consider staying anywhere else.

+1

We just wet on a road trip for the day and ended up stopping at the blue spruce!!!
The owner was awesome and very accommodating. We stayed in cabin 9 in the horseshoe part.
It was very very nice. We had a lighthouse theme and the room was very clean. The beds were very comfy too. The only complaint we have is there was no coffee maker in the room and nowhere to put our suitcase but the floor. But we will definitely come back. Ty for the special help with my arm being broke. You were very kind!!!!

We stayed here for a getaway weekend. Didnt know what to expect with it being a mom and pop place, but when we got there, we were pleasantly surprised. We stayed in a one room cabin but we had plenty of room with two adults. The cabin was clean and tidy as well as the grounds. We loved the pool. It was very clean and warm. Plenty of chairs to lay out as well. We sat out front of our cabin every morning, watching the people go by. Not much to do in town, but they did have a few nice restaurants. The sunset at the Harbor was amazing and romantic. We are already planning on staying here next summer as well.

But just OK. We went to the "tip of the thumb" in Mich because we wanted to see and/or kayak around the interesting rock formations in Lake Huron. Really, the only negative thing about our stay was the proprietor, who could not have been less interested in the rocks, where they were, how we might see them, or anything else that a tourist in his small town might ask about. Finally he dug out a brochure about the county.
The room was adequate but the bed was very uncomfortable, hard and plastic covered. There was a little table in the room but no comfortable chair, and no place to put the suitcase. The towels, for $83 a night, were very thin. It was clean though.

No, but only a few blocks away, just a little walk through a nice little town.
Not in the cabins
"The rooms are attended to everyday, Clean towels are brought in the bed is made and the floor is vacuumed and the trash bag are also changed. There is a small table and chairs to eat at if we want a frig and microwave it's home away from home. It's perfect for us and that is way we return. The rates are not bad ether. "Read full review
