My wife and I took our 2 kids around Memorial Day 2012. We are avid campers, we camp rustic campgrounds approximately twice a year. First the good: This campground's location is fantastic, right on (quick walk) to Lake Michigan the beach is amazing. The campground has plenty of restrooms (out house buildings which are fairly clean), dumpsters for trash and...

This is easily one of the best primitive campsites I've ever experienced. If you're looking to get back to nature, then this is the place for you. The campground is primitive and very quiet and peaceful. Each site has a picnic table, a fire pit with a grill rack on hinges, and a designated flatspot to pitch your tent, which...

We stayed here the night after camping at Traverse City State Park. This campground was a welcome change. It is a rustic campground, but very beautiful, . The sites are spacious and clean. The campground was very quiet. It is well away from trafic. A beautiful sandy beach on Lake Michigan is an easy short walk away. The campground is...

My husband and I stayed there this past weekend (Oct 17th) and it was very quiet and nice. We stayed at one of the prime spots, with their own access to the Lake Michigan. We both agreed that this was one of the best campgrounds, especially for fall camping. Its close to hiking trails, the Dunes, and quaint towns and...

We have stayed at the DH Day many times. Since it is part of the National Park system it is rustic but absolutely beautiful. The campsites are level and the built in grills on the fire pits are nice. This is a popular spot, during the busy summer months people get in line by 5:00AM to get one of the...

My wife and I found this to be among the cleanest campsites we've been to - fresh gravel-paved tent sites nicely sectioned off with wood planks, new tables and fire pits, and the nicest, cleanest outhouses if there ever was such a thing. The staff was also very friendly and courteous yet respectful of your privacy. The poison ivy was...

It is first come first serve. No reservations. Camping with direct access to a beautiful beach on a georgous lake and no crowds. It had everything I wanted, and much more than I expected. Trails, lakes, rivers, canoeing, fishing, hiking, golf on fantastic courses all within a short drive or walk and the list goes on... Views of sunsets that...

We stayed at this campground a couple of years ago and am headed there tomorrow. This is not the swimming pool, indoor toilet kind of campground. This is outhouse, back to nature campground. The park rangers there are great. They have nightly programs for the kids at the amphitheatre. Some of the things we learned at the programs was how...

“After driving around the campground, it didn't look like there was a bad campsite in the park! You cannot go wrong with this one, I recommend to check in as early as possible. This campground fills up early and quickly.”

“No park wants you to import firewood anymore. Stop at a local building site at home and ask the contractor is you can take scrap pieces of 2x4s or end pieces from 2x12s from his scrap pile. Great firewood that is easy to start and won't spread any kind of bugs. Bring bicycles or plan to walk to the Dune climb on the paved, nearly level trail. Drive the Pearce Stocking Drive. Take a trip to South Manitou island.”

“After you arrive and get your line #, you can drive around the campground and pick out a few site choices. Some are better than others. Some are more suited to tent camping and some are more suited for RV's. We were in the 1-31 circle, which seemed farthest from the water, but seemed spacious and ended up with hardly any traffic. The single digits were closest to the water.”
