We went to GWL in March 2020 after covid began, but prior to lock down. We had a standard room with 2 adults and 2 kids (17 &8). The room was okay, but we didn't spend much time in the room anyways. The kids had a fun, albeit an expensive weekend ($600+/night). I took the kids again in Sept 2020, after lock down began. We got a family kids cabin suite (800+/night) The slides were open, but hot tub was closed. It was more crowded and less fun, but still had a good time. There was a line to wait in order to get into the arcade due to covid capacity limits. No bowling. Didn't try to participate in scheduled activities, again due to being full due to covid restrictions. Mirroring what another reviewer said. Returning the towels to the waterpark area is very inconvenient. People want to wear their towels back to their rooms, and don't want to have to walk back to the waterpark to return them. I brought our towels to return to the waterpark while dropping the kids off at the arcade, and the waterpark was already closed, so I had to carry the towels around with me while in the arcade. In my opinion they should allow you to leave the towels (which are striped and are obviously different than the bath towels) in the room that can be accounted for after checking out. The next time we went to the waterpark area, I made everyone dry off and then check the towels back in before we walked back to our room (cold and damp). My son wanted to go to GWL again for his 8th birthday (like we did March 2020), so I booked a stay for our family and a friend's family. With Easter being early this year, we decided to book for the weekend after Easter to avoid the chaos of spring break crowds. We booked 2 kids cabin suites ($800+/night each). The resort was supposed to re-open 3/22 (after being closed due to covid). The re-opening then got moved to 4/5, and I was a little worried since our stay was scheduled for 4/10. We received an email on 3/30 that the resort was extending the shut-down until 4/19, and they could "hold" our deposit until 5/18 to "allow" us to reschedule, or we could cancel for a refund. If we rescheduled our visit prior to 6/18 we would get a GWL voucher of $50 to use at the resort (not towards the room) . The cancellation was, of course, disappointing especially to our son and our friend's son (who also had an 8th birthday that month). And it would be difficult for us to change our dates when you are trying to coordinate 10 people's schedules. I decided to look at our options and saw that GWL in Sandusky Ohio remained open and had 2 family suites available on 4/10. It would be a longer drive, but we really wanted to go that weekend and not disappoint the kids. I called customer service to change our reservation to the Sandusky location...and NO DEAL. Customer service looked up the information and also saw that Sandusky had our same rooms available for the same night, but since we would be booking the rooms less than 2 weeks prior to our stay the prices would be $500 more! So our $1600 night would now be $2100! No thanks! In my opinion they should have honored our original booking price. That being said, the next day we looked and were able to book 2 family suites at Zender's Splash Village for $450/night for each suite for our originally planned date (4/10). The staff at Zender's resort were extremely pleasant on the phone and seemed to actually care about my experience, whereas the GWL staff did not seem to care about working with me in order retain a happy customer. We will see how our experience at Zender's goes...we may or may not be back to GWL in the future.

Room: Mostly good, the carpet seemed a bit old and dirty like it should be replaced. The shower handle was semi-broken and hard to turn on and off at times. The room mostly seemed clean with just a bit of dust around the bunk beds. It seems like the rooms could use a bit of an update. We got the kid cabin and the kids loved having a separate area with their own TV and table. I liked the fireplace for a quick warm up after swimming. Due to covid they only clean upon request which was fine with us. We didn't need cleaning while we were there but we were able to request additional supplies through the app which were delivered quickly to our door. Waterpark: This is the perfect size for my kids. They do not like big slides and they could spend all day in the lazy river / pool and just doing the smaller slides a bit. The splash zone was good for the youngest. Our only complaint was that my kids both scraped themselves on the bottom of the lazy river a few times each day. It seemed a bit rougher on the bottom than other lazy rivers we've been in before. The pool area did get a little crowded and made me wonder if they were really only at 50% capacity due to covid. We tried to time our visits for off times to avoid the crowds. Restaurants: The Camp Critter restaurant was good but a bit pricey. It's vacation so we splurged for one meal. The pizza from the other restaurant was good. Dunkin Donuts was just ok. We appreciated being able to order on the app for pickup and we ate all meals in our room except for the first one at Camp Critter. The ice cream place was good for a vacation treat. MagiQuest: This was the highlight of my older daughters stay. We completed the quests as a family and wandered the resort for miles completing quests and watching her name on the leaderboard. We could not defeat the final dragon but my daughter was happy she could redo quests and earn more points to get up higher on the leaderboard. I appreciate that it kept us all active. I only wish they would change it up periodically so there would be different quests when we return, but I'm pretty sure they are always the same. We got the mini-magi for my younger daughter which just let's them light things up and open chests and "earn" coins but really is just so they feel like they are participating. Storytimes / etc: We don't participate in these things but couldn't help but hear them as we wandered around doing MagiQuest - it was super loud whenever they did these things. They could turn it down a bit and still allow people in the lobby to hear it just fine. Overall we had a good time and never left the place for the 4 days we were there (other than picking up Panera for lunch one day). We are already planning a summer visit to check out some of the outdoor stuff plus the arcade which we skipped this trip. 2-3 nights is best. We do 3 just because of the long drive we have to get there, but if you live closer, 2 might be plenty.

The place is way overpriced. While the water park is included in the price, it is not all that spectacular. It cost us $90.00 or so for an average meal for 4 at the restaurant on site. The other on site activists were less than impressive as well.

Disappointed once again. If i had another choice i would not come here. This place is so out dated and overpriced. Carpets are old and dirty. The entire place is original from when it was built im sure. Food is edible at best. Sower heads and controls are not at all kid friendly. The story times and kids event are the same as when they first opened. No effort whatsoever to update anything except the price. Dont even get me started on the arcade. $100 does not go far at all. 20 min if your lucky. Most games are $1.20 just to play. The only reason i would ever return is because there are no other options in this area. Hope they are proud.

We love this place! And if you haven't met Mr. Doug, you haven't met fun! He brings real fun and joy every time. Keep in mind it's a resort, so things are gonna be Walmart cheap. I was actually surprised by how good the pizza is. For anyone who complains about the price, try a week at Disneyworld!
