Actually, I was a bit disappointed to read the other reviews of Pomar Velho. I had thought that it was our delightful personalities which meant that Carol and Ken treated us like old friends, but now I realise it is another mark of their excellent hospitality skills to make everyone feel like that. They have renovated the house delightfully and... More

Pomar Velho is the home of Carole and Ken who have lived in Portugal for over 35 years. They are great hosts and their large and comfortable house makes a good base for exploring this beautiful area, close to the border with Spain. The welcome is warm, the rooms airy with good bathrooms and the breakfasts and dinners are really... More

Carole and Ken have lovingly designed and appointed the perfect retreat for a vacation of exploring the endless medieval villages along the Spanish border. The rooms are luxurious but in sync with the old farmhouse they restored. The breakfasts are feasts of fresh breads and homemade jams from the fruit trees that surround the property. The dinners are better than... More

Ken and Carol redefine hospitality. Rather than tourists turning up at a guest house, you arrive here to be treated as old friends. Whether it’s the perfect, varied breakfasts, the aperitifs on the terrace, the home-cooked suppers, all here is done as if for old friends. Ken arranged for taxis to take us around the locale, recommended restaurants and booked... More

Quiet, good walking, interesting people and lots of places to visit enough to keep 4 of us occupied every day of our stay. Pomar Velho the accommodation was great and owners Ken and Carol perfect hosts. We will certainly visit again. This is a small comfortable Gest House with warm personal service and good food.

We recently spent a week at Pomar Velho, and it was like visiting the home of dear chums whom we had known for years! We were welcomed by nightingales singing in the garden and by host Ken bearing a local chilled white port – which he insistently pressed on us. It would have been rude to refuse! Pomar Velho is... Pomar Velho was a very welcome sight after a long and hot walk....the pool especially! Carole and Ken were delightful and amusing. The rooms were airy and tastefully decorated , supper and breakfast were delicious. The following day it was rather hard to leave and my knee was a bit sore.... so my walking companions set off for Marveo and... More

Pomar Velho is a lovely, spacious, rural retreat. Guests have access to a large sitting room and private pool. Ken and Carole are really welcoming and helpful. We enjoyed hearty breakfasts, a wonderful evening meal and loved walking in the unspoiled countryside around Galegos.

Pomar Velho is a real gem in the beautiful Alentejo countryside. The farmhouse is all you could want with a nice pool and real character. It is a great base from which to enjoy walks in the countryside and explore sleepy villages. With tastefully decorated and well equipped rooms, the owners have really thought of everything including nice touches such... More
