Midgard is a perfect place for team meeting, retreats, business venues. It has good facilities (meeting rooms.. teleconference... projectors..) and amenities (bowling.. swimming pools.. gym.. a museum). In 3 days we never experienced a single problem (projector working, water and refreshments available on time, internet connection ). Internet wifi band is enough to download emails but not for webex or... More

The estate undoubtedly has significant potential. Unfortunately in it's current rather run-down state, it falls short in comparison to the many other lodges in the same price range we have visited as part our Namibia round trip. A few examples: The pools had not been cleaned in a while. There are pieces of broken glass omnipresent. The animal area does... More

Each year we attend a weekend mountain bike event at this location and each year things seems to go downhill in more ways than one. The "Glory Days" of this establishment are long forgotten, and maintenance is lacking to a large degree. The rooms are comfortable neat and tidy, and have been revamped, but the whole exterior requires a lot... More

My room was very large with a huge walk in shower and a large corner bathtub! The grounds are quit lovely. Our dinner was prepared outside with many Namibian dishes. The desserts were very good! The staff was very friendly.I loved the homemade breads at breakfast and there is also an omelet and egg station!

We were given an end room in a block which had no view and no sun. The soundproofing was not good as we could hear snoring, talking and the TV from other rooms. We were very cold as the duvet was a summer weight. We found a blanket in the wardrobe but it didn't help much. The shower screen was... More

tired is a great way to describe this place. It was not what I expected. Mostly for groups to do business meetings. The room had no light on, it was dark and I was injured so it was not fun trying to get into the room. My toilet ran all night. Apparently I was not the only one with that... More

The place is simply very very tired. I understand that it is a big piece of Lodge to maintain, so why on earth not stick to the rule: If you cannot maintain it, demolish it. There a broken roofs everywhere (e.g. above the Gym), unused & dirty halls/rooms/lapas, furniture in rooms is very tired, old mattresses, bathrooms outdated, why two... More

As we went on a budget trip and university student rate, our service wasn't the top class. We were given an old train car with doors that wouldn't open or close, I had to go get tools from my car and have a few doors fixed, or else one of our girls wouldn't be able to sleep at peace. The... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Midgard Country Estate is located only 60 minutes or 85 km northeast of Windhoek and only 70 km from Hosea International Airport in the unspoiled Otjihavero Mountains. An ideal family hide- away, first or last stop for International visitors, intimate meetings, team-building events or weddings. The founder of the Namibian Conglomerate, Ohlthaver & List, Carl List, originally acquired Midgard Country Estate in 1937. His son, Carl Werner List originally farmed the 16,000-hectare Estate and developed this private and intimate world: a household name in Namibia. Today you are invited into this very private world to enjoy the tranquility whilst marveling at the pioneering German Settler spirit, which gave birth to it all. Midgard, a word found in Old Norse, Middle English and High German languages has varying meanings but is popularly thought to be a paradise where the earth rises again, fertile and green, creating a protected world and a safe “empire” for the people. It is an intimate world of its own, which only offers 46 newly decorated and fully equipped rooms, the Main Dining Room & Bar, the Boma, two swimming pools and Pool Bar & BBQ, Gym and Sauna, private Skittling Alley or Kegel Bahn all spaciously situated in a vast sprawling country garden bordering the banks of the Swakop River as it meanders through the Estate on its way to the Atlantic Ocean at Swakopmund. Activities consist of either doing absolutely nothing or discovering Hiking and Mountain Trails, driving along 4x4 tracks, playing Volley Ball, Tennis, Table Tennis or outdoor Chess, Star Gazing, and then viewing the Vintage Car Collection. One of the Estate’s major attractions is a Sundowner Drive or Nature Game Drive to Hilltop for an amazing sunset accompanied by traditional “sundowners”. Morning and afternoon Nature Game Drives through the separate 2,000-hectare Nature Reserve along the Swakop River will open up an experience clearly confirming what life was like on a traditional Namibian Farming and Game Estate in years gone by. Wildlife found here includes Giraffe, Blue and Black Wildebeest, Oryx, Kudu, Hartebeest, Eland, Warthog, Baboons, and smaller antelope species such as the Steenbok. Birding along the riverfront can also be rewarding. ... more   less
