We spent three nights at the A Mare during our recent vacation. I wanted to reserve Apartment B, based on the reviews here, but it was already booked, so we stayed in Apartment A. The apartment is huge (at least for a couple), with a nice bedroom and bathroom, full kitchen and a large living room. Best of all is... More

I was traveling solo after 12 days of group traveling. What a nice place to relax. My no. 4 room had a cute little balcony off double doors where I could have coffee before dressing for breakfast. Bettina knows how to please. I had a snazzy hot pot for heating water and packets of yummy instant coffee. My view of... More

Generally, tourists who visit Salema as part of their trip to the Algarve are probably here because Rick Steves recommended it... This B&B is ideally located steps from the beach and the few restaurants that are in town. Bettina manages the property so well one would think she was the owner as well. We enjoyed the continental breakfast each morning,... More

I wish I had better things to say, but truthfully, it was just average and pretty much what we expected for the price. The room was adequate and did have a nice view. Fresh squeezed orange juice was a treat. I felt that the property could use a little TLC to make it more warm and cozy feeling.

This owner operated small rental place is wonderful with small separate terraces for each room/apartment some with great views. It is steps away from the beach and restaurants. In late April Salema is very quiet but beautiful and this place is an ideal place to stay with a very friendly and helpful host. It has very reasonable prices.

We stayed off season in March and Bettina kept apologising for the weather as it it was raining. She had turned the heating on for us and explained how everything worked. The apartment B was well equipped except for a washing machine. The view was lovely and the terrace gorgous. Unfortunately we were there when it was cool but I... More

We went to Salema in off-off season and had the Pensione A Mare to ourselves. Benita, the manager, was very helpful in suggesting places to eat and day trips to take. The view from the breakfast room, of the ocean and village, is quite lovely, and the rooms, each with their own patio space and garden views, are well equipped... More

Perched on a high hill overlooking the beach, Pension Mare was all we could want, clean and reasonably priced. Bettina's German influenced breakfasts were outstanding. She was also very helpful with recommendations for sites, "go early morning to Sagres" as it is very windy later in the day. She also helped make arrangements for golf at San Antonio course. Parking... More

It is not luxurious and need to bring your own shampoo and conditioner, but it is clean, centrally located. Bettina was hospitable and made wonderful breakfasts. Also, they have laundry service at a decent price. I would def stay there again!!!

We stayed 2 nights in September in apartment B. Loved it! Apt B has a private terrace with table and chairs and sun loungers. Easy walk to the beach and town. The town has a really good little supermarket where you can get decent fruit and veg and other meal provisions. Only slight negative on Apt B was the size... More
