Quiet location outside the center of Sayulita, the hotel is very simple but clean overall. The pool is the main attraction here, and the two hot tubs draw a crowd day and night. There is a small restaurant on site that provides breakfast and lunch, but it was closed inconsistently throughout our stay with no prior warning. Food was simple but did the job. The rooms were a bit inconsistent, some with tile floors, others with painted concrete, some with two chairs, others with one, etc. They seem to be all the same size so not sure why there was a discrepancy. The hot water in the shower takes some time to arrive but once it does it is consistent. Overall, it's a nice budget friendly stay in a very laid back surf town.

We spent 4 nights in the heart of Sayulita which was a lot of fun being in amongst the hustle and bustle. For the last 3 nights, we moved up to Avela Boutique Hotel which is a short 10-minute walk to downtown and it was the best decision! Still close enough to walk down for lunch or dinner but far enough away from the noise and it is very peaceful and quiet. The rooms were comfortable and spacious, stylishly decorated. The staff were so welcoming and lovely to us - they took care of whatever we needed. The best part though, is the pool! It was such a treat to cool off and relax at the beautiful pool. For my partner's birthday, the lovely cook prepared us surprise cocktails and french toast with a candle. Our friends were welcomed up on a day pass which is redeemable in food and beverage. Nahu was our host and he was lovely. Would definitely stay here again :) Thank you very much

I was visiting Puerto Vallarta with my husband & friends in January and decided to take a few days in Sayulita. My husband and I stayed at the Avela Boutique Hotel for a few days and are so glad we did.
It took us about 1hr, 20mins to get to Sayulita from Puerto Vallarta. Avela is located up the hill from the town center which is perfect if you do not want to be in the heart of Sayulita, which can be very busy and noisy. It’s a quick walk or you can rent one of the golf carts at the hotel to go around town.
Our check in was quick and painless. We dropped our bags off and went for a nice walk. The hotel is small but lovely. It felt like a hidden oasis. My reservation came with breakfast which was made fresh every morning and served right by the pool area. The rooms were the perfect size for two people, clean and modern.
If I would’ve known how lovely Sayulita was, I would have stayed there for at least another night. It was the perfect break. I would highly recommend visiting Sayulita and staying at the Avela Boutique Hotel.

A true gem! While just a 5 min walk from downtown, this hotel is so quiet and peaceful at night. The breakfast that is offered each morning was so fresh and delicious. Staff are so kind and helpful. I can’t say enough about this property. How it doesn’t get 5 stars from everyone is beyond me.

I stayed at Avela for two nights with two other family members and was blown away by the staff's care and attentiveness. The hotel is family owned by the most amazing people and I felt so cared for during my time there.

The building is absolutely gorgeous, with the feel of a luxury retreat away from the noise of downtown but still close enough to easily access. The food at the cafe was delicious.

Absolutely 5 star, I will recommend Avela to all my friends and family members. Please support this place and these people, they are the best!

Our stay at Avela Boutique Hotel was absolutely incredible from start to finish! From the moment we arrived, the staff went above and beyond to ensure our experience was nothing short of perfect. Everyone was friendly, attentive, and genuinely invested in making our trip unforgettable.

The team at Avela made everything so easy and stress-free. We booked a boat tour, airport shuttle, and golf cart rental through them, and each experience was great. We felt completely taken care of the entire time.

To top it all off, the hotel staff surprised me with balloons and a bottle of wine in my room for my birthday! It was such a thoughtful touch and made my celebration even more special.

The rooms were beautifully decorated The pool and hottub were top-notch, and the atmosphere was serene and luxurious. It’s clear the staff takes pride in maintaining such high standards. The breakfast was great every morning as well!

We left feeling refreshed and already planning our next stay. If you’re looking for a boutique hotel where every detail is taken care of, and the staff treats you like family, Avela Boutique Hotel is the place to be. Highly recommend!

The Avela Boutique hotel was a 5 star experience from start to finish. The vibe was consistently beautiful and tranquil. With just an 8 minute walk from Sayulita town it was the perfect distance to get into the buzzy party part with a numerous amount of great bars and restaurants. My partner and I were greeted with the warmest welcome and it did not stop there. All the staff were so friendly and always went above and beyond to make our stay the best it could be. The hotel itself was sparkling clean and luxurious. We would 100% stay there again!

This gorgeous hotel is more than we could hope for, we came over Christmas and the year before. Tucked away above the city rush, yet only a ten min walk to the beach, it is a true retreat. Beautiful pool and hot tubs, excellent staff and the rooms are excellent- we took a big suite for a few nights and then two rooms side, by side. This hotel is precisely what we needed for luxury, close to Sayulita beach and gorgeous amenities. A gem!

The hotel was portrayed to be a lot more luxurious online. The "Balcony" was closed off cement space with no view (cement) and no seating. The tv was very small for the large space and queen bed. The "desk" was also extremely small. There wasn't even soap in the room. The comfort of the bed was average. The pool is also much smaller than depicted. There is no 24/7 security and it is completely open space. After booking/paying on Expedia, checking in AND paying full security deposit I was hassled about the transaction upon returning to my room that night. The manager was extremely understanding and friendly, but the owners of the hotel did not seem to understand the workings of expedia. In the morning, I was stopped and hassled AGAIN about the expedia transaction that said "Processing" which I had no control over. I had to cancel my morning plans (fyi only stayed 1 night) as a result of the owner trying to clarify this payment with her "Accountant" or whomever on the phone. Shortly after checkout, they contacted me about a book I forgot in the room, and "Courteously" told me they can mail it under my expense if I wish...Overall US $177 (Without breakfast! ) is not worth the time, inconvenience or customer service. The building definitely has potential but there needs to be a lot of change before I would ever return or recommend this to anyone.

Hello to future travelers to Sayulita,

While I was fooled by the number of positive reviews, I believe that these reviews are misleading, and I completely agree with the review of AJ1 (that I had also read prior to booking with Hopper, but foolishly ignored). I honestly thought AJ1 had more of a run in regarding his Expedia booking and the negative interactions colored his entire trip. And with so many other positive reviews, I ignored his foolishly.

However, he is shockingly accurate in his review of this hotel. On the Hopper website, this property is shown as a FIVE STAR hotel compared to other boutique hotels who only rate themselves as a THREE star hotel and they charge like they are a five star hotel ($950 for 7 nights). This alone made me drawn to the property, that and the photographs of a brand new hotel that is now quite run down. DO NOT BE FOOLED.

I had just come from a stay at the W Punta Mita (an actual 5 star hotel) and this is only marginally better than a basic Airbnb stay and honestly my Sayulita Airbnb stay (Leavetown Sayulita) was a way better value ($500 for 6 nights). I wanted to stay at a luxurious property in Sayulita before I moved to an Airbnb so I could enjoy my extra day off over Memorial Day weekend. Needless to say, this was not luxurious at all.

Instead of rehashing all of these issues again, I am copying and pasting my note to the hotel owner, who initially responded to my email and then went radio silent, and I had to follow-up two times before she responded again, offering me a one night future stay credit. I would not stay at this property ever again even if I were likely to come back to Sayulita so found this an incredibly disingenuous response.

Instead if you want to stay at a boutique hotel with more amenities (as opposed to an Airbnb), I would recommend Don Bonito hotel (Same pricing) or Puerto Saylita hotel. I checked out both of these properties so can attest that that location and the pictures are reflective of the current condition of the property.

The locations of both of these hotels are also infinitely better (and a flat walk, not a walk up a steep hill). The location of Avela is on a hilltop, near the main "highway" or road going in and out of town from the coast. The highway is always busy and there are many trucks that pass by just a few hundred feet from the pool. Puerto Sayulita is also along the main road going in and out of town, but he pool is elevated and on the roof of a three story property so it's much quieter. Don Bonito has the best location of all three properties. It's on the North side, the closet property to the beach and where all the locals live.

I also wanted to mention that on the third night of my stay, the key cards didn't work and I was locked out of my room. There isn't someone who is at the front desk 24 hours a day so had to reach out to the security guard who called someone. It took more than 30 minutes to get into my room while I waited for someone to come back to the property to let me in. They said it was because when the month changed from May to June, the key card software is reset and the keys stop working. This would have been nice to know prior to me leaving for the day! I hope this will save someone from being sorely disappointed after visiting this property and paying what they've paid.

My biggest issue is that this place is advertised as a 5 star hotel, when it is a 3 star hotel at best. This is incredibly deceptive in addition to its myriad issues.
Lack of hot water in room 10, shower head issues, inconsistent restock of water (you have to ask them even if though they say you get two bottles every day and you usually have to chase them down), inconsistent cleaning services (no service on Day 2 in room 10 and I had to inquire if my room is supposed to be serviced everyday and they finally started knocking on my door to see if I wanted cleaning service), stained patio linens, key card issues, inconsistent cafe hours (people are there in the morning, but don't expect to be able to work from the property and order lunch - have to go into town for that), noisy property, security issues as it is wide open, entire property is poorly maintained. I'll also include pictures so you can see it for yourself.

Hello Nancy,

Hope this email finds you well. I first wanted to say how lovely it is to see you and a team of women running the Avela Boutique Hotel. All the women were very friendly and helpful, and I appreciated the welcoming ambience from the reception to the cleaning staff.

Aside from the staff, my overall experience and stay at Avela left something to be desired. In particular, I was surprised and disappointed by the sound pollution in room 10. Frankly, the noise that is audible in that room is a few decibels lounder than my New York City apartment. This is not a room that should be offered to guests, particularly guests on a vacation.

Unfortunately, I couldn't locate the front desk staff to change rooms on Day 2 so spent a second night in the room. At that point, I was thinking about switching accommodations. Luckly, I was able to switch rooms on Day 3 and the noise was greatly reduced although you could still hear morning conversations of the staff and other guests as noise reverberates through the complex.

There were also several other issues I noted: lack of hot water in room 10, shower head issues, inconsistent restock of water, inconsistent cleaning services (no service on Day 2 in room 10), stained patio linens, etc. All to say that while the stay was palpable, it did not meet the standards of a 5-star hotel or the accompanying nightly rate, as advertised on the booking website.

I would greatly appreciate your thoughts and feedback and recompense for the first two nights of my stay. I am still in Sayulita so if you'd like to discuss live, I am happy to. I wish all the best for you and your beautiful hotel. Thank you for your consideration.

Best regards,
Sarah
