Wonderful hostel atmosphere. The McCallum family can cook breakfast, lunch or dinner for menu as well as offer laundry service at a fair price. The hostel has a communal kitchen, basic rooms that are clean, hot water and strong wifi. I would highly recommend to anyone looking for an economical location a little off the beaten path. One block from...

I have been living in Peru for 3 years and stay at Mccallums every time I am in Huanchaco. The hostal is comfortable and very affordable. The water is always hot and internet works pretty well. Most importantly the family that runs the hostal is incredible, and will go above and beyond for any of their guests. Whether it be...

I stayed there a few weeks working for a charity. Usually, the clients are surfers, I am not. It is a bit off the central line, you may find more ambient hotels at the front line. But it is 5 minutes walk from the shore, anyway. There is the best bakery in the town on the corner of Los Ficus...

I am a volunteer living in Peru and one of my favorite beaches to visit on weekends off is Huanchaco. In part because the family that owns McCallum is so amazing. These are people who are genuinely invested in making your stay comfortable and making you feel at home. When traveling on a budget it is rare to find a...

I arrived in Huanchaco and some random Scottish guy (presently living in Huanchaco) referred me here. You couldn't find more helpful and friendly hosts if you tried - they just simply can't do enough. I had the same experience as some other reviewers here where they would just drop whatever they're busy with and attend to your request. The room...

I loved my stay in McCallum, I spent a whole week there. The owners are lovely, the place is clean and quiet (maybe apart from the occasional shouting when they are trying to get Manuel to get downstairs), the shower is hot, the WiFi was slightly moody by they fixed it quickly (for me that was very important as I...

Unfortunatley when youre backpacking and looking for the cheapest options they end up being places that are run like a machine by what seem more like maintance operators than hosts with their blasé attitude. You almost forget that normally people get into the hospitality business because they like to make people happy. McCallum is the first budget hostel in South...

I have stayed here many times and it can't be beat. It is family run and they are simply wonderful; hard working and always aiming to please. You can pay extra for a continental breakfast and/or the not to be missed traditional Peruvian lunches which change everyday and are cheaper than the local restaurants at 8 soles. You can use...

We are actually staying in Huanchaco, a nice town, in this hostal minutes away from the beach. Travelling on a budget, we seriously knocked on almost every hostal door in town, asking for prices. And this one is the best deal in town for sure, maybe in Peru. We pay 40 soles per night for us both (23.44$ for 2)...
