We stayed at the Richmond Barracks in the Lady Esther cottage for just one night with our two kids but could have easily stayed for longer. With a bedroom for the kids upstairs and one for us downstairs with a charming dining room and kitchen in-between it proved to be one of our favorite places to stay during our week...

Simone was very helpful and provided a substantial breakfast basket with ample tea and coffee plus a jug of real milk! The accommodation is very quiet and and a block from...

Thankyou for the lovely review. Lady Esther cottage is very popular for friends travelling together but wishing to have their own bedroom and bathroom facilities. We are in an enviable location close to everything Richmond has to offer, yet quiet and peaceful. Lovely to have met you both. Take care, Simone

Simone is a perfect host, attentive and caring without being overbearing, in fact having settled us in she left us to our own devices other than checking what we preferred for breakfast which was topped up in the fridge and bread basket each morning. She has inherited a winning formula from Martin and Liz and wisely chosen not to change...

The old Richmind Barracks have been converted into lovely accommodation. Our overnight stay consisted of a kitchenette/living room, separate bedroom and bathroom. We were able to reheat our pies from the Richmond Bakery. The room was also well heated for the windy, cold night we stayed. The rooms were clean and there was extra blankets if needed.

Everything was lovely including Simone. Couldn't have asked for better service. Set the standard for other places and was close to Hobart without being in the city itself but lose enough to visit. Comfortable bed and lovely clean amenities walking distance to town and the places to visit there. Will stay again no question about that!

The facilities offered are first class and very attractively presented. The host obviously puts a lot of care and thought into her business and does the job excellently. Breakfast was continental and just right. We were in the Cellar which was more than adequate for a couple.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Richmond Barracks is centrally located in a quiet, peaceful pocket of the beautiful Georgian town of Richmond. An easy walk to the famous Richmond Bridge and Richmond's main street, filled with excellent dining options, antique stores and Tasmanian craft shops. Relax and enjoy the spacious sun filled gardens that surround the beautiful cottages on our property. The Colonial officers who originally lived at the Barracks certainly did not enjoy the superb comforts you'll find here today. Built in 1830, using local convict bricks, this charming National Trust Registered property is a restful haven for the discerning traveller. Choose between any of these three purpose built accommodations: Lady Esther Cottage: two storey, self contained family accommodation, sleeps four comfortably. The Retreat: bedroom, lounge, kitchenette, bathroom, sleeps two/three comfortably. The Cellar: studio with kitchenette and bathroom sleeps two only. You'll be comfortable and warm with electric blankets and heaters in all bathrooms, and efficient reverse cycle air conditioning/heating in all cottages. Free WiFi is provided throughout the property. A hearty, continental breakfast is available at an additional charge. Off street parking is provided. ... more   less
