The Historic Hawthorne Inn built in 1877! What a great place to retreat and unwind after a day of water play on the lake, golfing, fishing, taking a leisure drive hoping to eye spy an Amish buggy going to town while visiting their many specialty stores, local wineries, caves, Mark Twain National Forest , HaHa Tonka State Park, and don't forget the Bagnell Dam Strip and much more…After an adventurous day, come relax on the patio and enjoy food, drink and good company. Reminisce about the days events or take comfortable solace in the library which features a growing number of books ranging from classic to contemporary. Make the Hawthorne Inn your go to destination.
My favorite B & B thanks to the tremendous hospitality and sincere care of the owner. My room was lovely and if I’d had more time I would have enjoyed the private deck next to my room. Everything about the house says “welcome”, “be comfortable”, “enjoy your stay”! An added delight was breakfast and a lovely conversation with the owner and another guest. It was a perfect weekend, thank you!!!

Absolute best experience from beginning to end. I loved everything about this sweet B&B but the owner and her hospitality are unbeatable. I'll definitely return! The homemade breakfast will leave you feeling incredibly spoiled!

Doris is a wonderful host. The rooms were very clean, the bed was extremely comfortable as were the pillows, the water heater and the shower pressure were excellent. We stayed on the second floor in the Hilty room. It was very quiet and comfortable and we had a wonderful nights sleep. The warm cookies were a great welcome and the breakfast was extraordinary! The hospitality Doris provided was beyond excellent. We definitely recommend staying here. The Hilty Inn is located just off the downtown Square in Versailles.

Wonderful Bed and breakfast. The rooms are unique and very clean. The owner / manager engaged us in lively discussions over coffee. The Bed and Breakfast sits on the town square and is a lovely building. We plan to return next year.

We attended a meeting in town and wanted a place where we could relax with friends afterwards. We enjoyed the pretty old house, lovely breakfast, and especially the use of the cozy sitting room. In summer, the porch and grounds would be a great place to relax.

The HIlty Inn is owned and operated by a very experienced and savvy innkeeper, Doris Hilty. She is charming and also knows her business. The building itself is a historical site, built in 1877. It is well maintained, very clean and furnished with antiques. It feels very homey and comfortable, not fussy or over done. Besides the rooms, there is a lovely screened side porch, a small front porch for sitting and looking over the town square (private to the Thornleigh Room), a library full of interesting books, an upright piano and comfy chairs. Breakfast is in the dining room or, occasionally, at the kitchen bar. Doris is very hospitable and breakfast the two days we were there was delicious. It included treats like a poached pear or homemade peach jam as well as eggs and breakfast meats. Doris was very thoughtful when she learned I am a vegetarian and included asparagus with our eggs on day two. We were in the Thornleigh Room with a King bed. It has a nice sitting area, a small desk if you ned to work, and plenty of plugs for computers and phones. The bathroom for this room is very small, tucked in across the hall landing. It worked for us but if you are a large person you might want one of the other rooms with larger bathrooms. In general, this is an old house that might be difficult for anyone with problems walking to navigate, with steps up and down in odd places. Check with Doris before booking if you have any concerns like that. Another nice thing about the Hilty House is that is it just off the main square of Versailles. We were there to work on family genealogy and could walk to the courthouse and the historical society easily. There is a great shoe store and we also attended a local performance in the old theater and could walk the few blocks to the brewery and an ice cream shop. We really enjoyed staying at the Hilty Inn in Versailles.…

Well if you stay in this nice town, try to get a reservation for a wonderful experience. Doris has been at this for over 20 years and has developed a strong following. The rooms are very nice with comfortable beds and good showers. The highlight however is Doris and here engaging personality and Great Breakfast. I will not tell you the details, it will be more fun to experience it!!!

The Hilty Inn was very nice and accommodating. Beds were good and the room was very clean. Hospitality of staff was outstanding! Located in the center of town, it has easy access to local dining which compliments the B&B very well. Would stay there again!

I stayed in the cottage in November during a family event. It was freezing outside but very warm and cozy inside. Doris is so nice and gave a warm and professional welcome and I felt very at ease. The accommodation is nicely appointed with comfortable furniture - there was a water softener, a small but considerate touch. I live in England where B&B's are a more common form of travel accommodation and this is one of the best I've ever stayed in. I had breakfast only once but it was exactly as I'd asked, very well made, hot, the coffee was perfect. Doris knows what she's doing with this place!

We stayed in the Alice and Hilty rooms. Both were cozy with great decor and neat old furniture. Fresh cookies and chocolates were a nice welcoming touch. We really enjoyed chatting with Doris, the hostess, who was very friendly and knowledgeable of the area. It was too cool to sit outdoors, but the porches and patio would be great places to relax in warmer weather. We definitely intend to stay again on our next visit.
