Great sea view from our room and balcony. Nice apartment equipped with what we needed (fridge, glasses, ...). Very helpful and nice host. We got a lot of advice where to go and what to see. Easy to locate and no problem to park the car. Hot water took some time and was a bit unstable.

Really nice bright rooms, good size and clean. Very good value for money. Just down thecsteps (on the corner) is a really nice restaurant - good seafood at very reasonable prices. We really like Myrtos for a three daybstay - any longer might have been too long.

Great small residence over several levels, in the stunningly well-located town of Myrtos (nothing like Ierapetra, which is a commercial centre 10 kms away). The proprietors are extremely thoughtful and kind, and in a short stay of two days we tested their generosity and patience. Next time we'll return and stay in a bigger room, but on this trip we...

Very comfortable, modern apartments and rooms with spectacular views over the bay of Myrtos and its beach. The people who run it could not be more friendly or more helpful. Each room or apartment is decorated in an individually-themed way. All have air-con, en-suite, fridges and balconies. Some the the apartments have terraces. I will certainly go back.

We spend just 2 nights at the Big Blue. We had a slightly chaotic and off-putting start (no-one at reception and then some confusion over our booking of 2 seperate rooms). After climbing up 3 flights of steps, we found our top floor rooms which were very small - my friend's was so small we had to turn sideways to...

If King Minos, was still alive, would prefer to make their holidays in Myrtos and reside in the Big Blue! We spent a week at Big Blue and greatly enjoyed our time there. Its location on the edge of the village made it a quiet and restful place to stay, but numerous good restaurants were only 2-5 minutes walk away.

Spotlessly clean rooms with balcony having wonderful views over the Libyan Sea. Staff are warm, friendly and very welcoming; the owner even parked our car for us. breakfast on the flowery terrace was very good. The hotel is only a few minutes walk from the beach, although it is quite steep. very quiet and peaceful location.

We are always very happy to stay at the Big Blue. A warm and friendly from the owners, Anastasia and Pavlos. They make this unique place a special moment where you feel like home. Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Big BLUE awarded every year by Eco- Label GREEN KEY.The big BLUE stands in the west end of Myrtos village, towards a long sandy beach which spreads until the end of the local road and splits into isolated little bays. The beautiful village of Myrtos lies around a small bay of south Crete, in front of the Mediterranean Sea.A green valley covered with orange, lemon, olive and banana trees spreads to the east and, together with the location of the village up to the 35th parallel of latitude, contributed to the temperate climate of Myrtos, bearing a very mild winter of average temperature 12o C and the cool summer 30o C.This might be the reason that Myrtos is the only one place of the Mediterranean where swallows remain and settle during winter.Extended archaeological excavations uncovered two archaic settlements near Myrtos. In the west of the village is also situated a Roman bath, of which one may recognize remains of walls and colonnades spread around the big BLUE and the nearby beach. In the exceptional village of south Crete, which preserves and keeps alive the features and traditions of the Cretan folklore life, we created a very special touristic unit. In our unit each studio has its own uniqueness.Blue and white are the main colours. "Ocean", "Horizon", "Sun", "Breeze" are some of the name of our studios & rooms. However, if one stands to one of the wide verandas and looks in front, he realizes that the name big BLUE means the big blue of the sea in the extend of the horizon. The big BLUE consists of 2 big studios, one apartment, one economy studio and two rooms with total capacity of 14 beds, all with air-conditions, sea view verandas and private WC. Pronounced free wireless internet access. All have a wide veranda with a magnificent view to the sea.The seashore is just in front of your feet, some meters from your room. In our quite green garden breakfast is served and you may also have some of our own produced wine or "raki".You will find almost everything you wish in the village: cafe's, bars, restaurants, as well as bakery, butchery and supermarket, which make residence comfortable and pleasant. Myrtos is connected by bus to Heraklion, Agios Nikolaos, Sitia and Ierapetra, which is the major town of the area, 14 Km away and the 4th bigger town of Crete. You may also rent a car or motorcycle and visit Knossos, Festos, Matalla, Vai etc. However you never feel bored if you choose to stay around Myrtos. You may visit the ancient sites around the village and along the small hills of the area. You may rent a bike or take an afternoon walk to the valley and enjoy the smell of oranges and lemons. You may fish, go jogging along the beach or trekking to the nice gorges and forests, or enjoy the breeze in your veranda. ... more   less
