Our room at El Portal was more spacious than fresh, and it turned out to be compatible with a Death Valley visit. Very clean, just a bit tired due to the wood paneling, etc., décor. It was quiet, simple, and comfortable. Bed was excellent. Many good suggestions were offered for restaurants, but not for vegetarians.

We fled a horrific sandstorm in Death Valley and snagged their last room here--glad of it. Our room was clean, very spacious, comfortable. The carpet is rather tired, but other than that, it was a good find, featuring caring hosts and comfort.

The owner was extremely friendly, super helpful with local restaurant choices and trail choices into Death Valley. The 'historical queen suite' we stayed in wasn't much special, but did make for a comfy returning point after long days exploring the valley. Could use a new stronger shower head, but helped to remind me to conserve water in the desert. The...

We were able to book a room at the last minute as our previous plans did not work out. Brooke was friendly and accommodating - I think we learned more about the hotel and area in the first 5 minutes of our stay than we could have on any website. The room was basic with two beds, a simple bathroom,...

Very friendly staff, they went out of their way to make a room available, during a very busy weekend. They provided great information for traveling in the area on and off the beaten path. I would stay here again.

The room is maintained very well. It was quiet and comfortable. Aaron and Brooke were very nice hosts. We would definitely stay there again. It may seem strange to give it an overall 4 star rating with 5 stars on each of the specific categories. However, people need to know that this is not a fancy, upscale place. It is...

The room was basic, clean, had a nice TV, wireless, small refrigerator (we needed to plug it in upon arrival) small microwave. two double beds, fairly comfortable. We needed to call to the main office to get ice. The heaters and a/c...

One thing that is very important to us (and especially my wife) is that the place is clean, and it was. Our room was spacious, even with two queen beds it was not cramped. El Portal Motel is owned and operated by a friendly and very helpful couple. We like to support locally owned businesses. It had wi-fi, a microwave,...

Beatty is a small town. Has a fun museum. Local Mexican restaurant had good food. We used the motel as a place to drop after hiking. So the lack of amenities was just what was needed. wifi was provided but was very slow.
