Hotel's Favourite

We stayed for 4 nights at the refurbished Sahara Hotel. There were lots of positives, which includes:

• The room rates and resort fees are reasonable compared to other hotels on the strip. Nothing in Vegas is particularly cheap, but if you are a value conscious traveler, this hotel represents good value for money.

• Check in line was super quick (this may have been because we checked in quite late in the day and/or because of the time of year)

• Our room (Marra Style King Size) was a really good size, with a nice walk-in shower and a big squishy bed (a little too soft for me but then I like a properly firm mattress). It was also immaculately cleaned. I had read a few reviews about some of the more eccentric stylings on some of the other room styles, so we stuck with the “business luxe” styling of the Marra which was pretty inoffensive and fitted out well.

• Although at the northerly end of the strip the hotel was well connected being on the Monorail and the Deuce bus route, so it was reasonably easy to get around.

•The hotel pool available to guests is located on the roof of the Alexandra Tower and has excellent views of the Stratosphere Hotel. Its on the small size so I can imagine its full in the summer, but on a sunny (but chilly) January day we had it pretty much to ourselves.

• The Casino, like the hotel, is a good size, not so big as to bamboozle you but big enough. We didn’t really gamble but enjoyed watching others from the bar.

• The Airport Shuttle bus recommended by the hotel was reasonably priced and they were super accommodating, despite our plane being 3½ hours delayed. Definitely book online before you travel, the details are on the Sahara website under travel.

We didn’t have any complaints about our stay but I am passing on a few tips which definitely helped us make the most of our stay:

• If you are British and as addicted to your morning cuppa as we are, then bring a travel kettle. The room does not have tea/coffee making facilities. Although there is a Starbucks in the hotel, it can get expensive shelling out for tea and coffee every morning. Due to the lower voltage in America our tiny kettle did take about 20 minutes to boil but it got there eventually and was so welcome when we were up at the crack of dawn with jetlag.

• Stock up on room snacks and fully utilise the room fridge. Again, Vegas can be expensive, so make smart choices and cross the road to the Walgreens and stock up on drinks and snacks for your room. That side of the road is slightly dodgy but it’s a very short 2-minute walk from the hotel.

• Monorail versus Bus (Deuce) – we mainly used the Monorail, its super quick and reasonably empty and this would be my recommendation of you are staying at the Sahara. For a 3-day unlimited pass it was $32 (cheaper online) so was another way of controlling cost. However, Sahara is the furthest it goes North and there are limited stops, annoyingly, most drop you off at the rear of some of the bigger hotels, which you then have to navigate yourself out of. We spent a frustrating 30 minutes trying to get out of the MGM Grand and vowed never to use that stop again. One day we used the Deuce bus, which has more flexibility as it goes to more places. We used it to go to the Welcome to Las Vegas sign in the South, all the way up to Fremont Street in the North in the evening. Its $8 for a 24-hour ticket of $20 for a 3 days pass, which again is good value. We still had time left on our 24 hours to use it the following morning to go and get an early breakfast so got our monies worth. However, the Deuce is sooooooooo slow, super busy (even in January) and some of the clientele is a little more colourful than those found on the monorail.

• Finally, do your research. There are a number of YouTube bloggers who have excellent content on free and cheap things to do and places to eat in Vegas. We found Travel Ruby on YouTube to be one of the most helpful. We did splurge on a couple of treats, but we also kept the cost down by, for example, seeking out reasonable prices for breakfasts.

All new renovation makes this one of the freshest destinations on Las Vegas Strip - Great value price of rooms and to eat - High end restaurants are worth the visit alone. Very moderation accommodations and vibe. You can even catch the monorail right there at the property to travel other end of Strip and points in between

I had my reservations about booking this hotel, primarily because of the negative reviews. We stayed in the Blanca King Room and it was very clean. The linens were comfortable and it was relatively chic. I didn’t care for the tiling in the shower or separate toilet (it was a cheesy yellow), however it was still very clean. I would have preferred the sink be a tad bigger, but we got an amazing value and I will not complain one single bit. Although we didn’t use the monorail service, the fact that you could jump on and off from inside the hotel and it would take you up and down the strip is a bonus. The convenient ride share pick up location is what we chose to use instead, however next time, I will probably buy a daily pass for $12 a person to ride the monorail because it’s just a tad bit more convenient and a bit less expensive than using an Uber to move from destination to destination on the strip. The Sahara is at the very end of the strip, so although you can walk and get to the epicenter of the strip, depending on the time of year and how hot it is, more than likely you’d want to Uber or catch the monorail, because it’s a long walk. We loved the drinks and tacos at UNO MAS, but the Northside Cafe didn’t quite cut it for us. We ate the breakfast which was very expensive and not really great quality. It was approximately $50 for two orders of pancakes, hash browns and eggs and one order of sausage and coffee. I don’t know about anyone else, but that’s ridiculous, but we understand that hotel food is usually pretty expensive and lackluster. I wouldn’t recommend that restaurant. Overall, I’d choose the Sahara again and again unless I happened to get decent rates at a higher end luxury hotel in the heart of the strip. 4.5 stars ⭐️ from me!!

Our Issues with the Sahara

1. Resort Fee’s-

We had stayed at the SLS and liked the property and now have stayed as the Sahara and we like what they done with the check in area and lobby, casino the colors inside the resort feel calm and mellow and very inviting. The resort is on the corner of Las Vegas Blvd & Sahara which it’s a bit far from City Center but a short Uber/Lyft ride. We like this property because they still offer Comp Valet Parking and the rooms are nice and clean.

Thank you for your review of SAHARA Las Vegas. We always appreciate hearing from our guests, since we work hard to make sure all our guests have a rewarding experience. We apologize for the dissatisfaction with the resort fees. All casino resorts on the Strip have resort fees, however we do our best to keep this cost down. Thank you again for your feedback and we hope to welcome you back soon.

This has been my go-to hotel when I’m in Vegas, and for good reason! Its main draw for me is the size of it—it’s on the smaller side (compared to the strip hotels), which means a lot less people inside and a more intimate feel to the indoor layout. Additionally, the rooms are modern, cute, and clean with comfy beds and large mirrors. Lastly, it’s a great value! The rates are likely priced lower due to the location (off the strip), but for me the distance is worth it because of the reduced crowds and exemplary rooms. However, it’s only a short walk to Walgreens or fast food options (McDonald’s, Subway). For a cheaper option than Uber/Lyft to get to the strip, try the monorail—it has a stop at Sahara.

The negatives for me include: super crowded rooftop pool (at least during the summer), not a great variety of restaurants, and the sketchiness of the area for walking (you’ll likely be safe; that’s just the Vegas streets for ya I guess).

Additional notes: Some areas inside and outside the hotel have a scent of marijuana (if that sort of thing bothers you). Also, the bar in the casino with (sports playing on the TV screens and big comfy chairs) has great service from the bartenders! Very polite and attentive! Professional service overall from the staff, for the most part.

If you’re looking for VALUE in Vegas, or are in any way averse to large crowds, this is the place to be!

I stayed at the Sahara in room 31148, on March 6 and March 7, 2020. The room was very modern with mirror lights on the left and right side a huge tv with full cable and a modern bathroom I was upgraded from a single king to a larger room with 2 queen beds. There was a cooler stocked with alcohol and sodas.. Very professional staff with quick check in and check out. Free garage parking. I would stay at the Sahara again the next time I go to Las Vegas!

Positives:
Location: in between the old and new on the Strip, so it wasn't too busy or noisy
Parking: Extremely accessible, free, and no hassle
Bed: Very comfortable King bed
TV: Large wall mounted TV.
Responsiveness of staff: We had several issues when we first got into the room. We initially received a text after check-in asking for us to contact them with any questions or issues. I texted the two concerns I had, and within an hour a person was up to the room handling the issues. I felt their responsiveness was excellent.

Negatives:
Bathroom. Just did not like the set-up at all. Hard to even describe, but I'll try. The toilet is in one "closet" and the shower is in another "closet". In between those two closets is a very small sink area. There are sliding doors that open and close to the two closets. It sounds weird, and yes, it is weird. Not my favorite set up.

Conclusion:
I would stay here again.

Hi Nancy, thank you so much for the feedback. The bathroom layout in our Blanca Tower (where you stayed) is indeed a little unconventional … so people love it, others not so much. On your next stay, look at booking either the Marra or Alexandria Tower as both have a traditional bathroom set-up. We would love to welcome you back and earn that 5th bubble!

After planning my Vegas trip in 2 weeks my boyfriend and I decided on Sahara. So glad we did. Do not let the location deter you from staying here as the monorail literally is downstairs from your hotel room. I got there early paid $20 for early check in (reg check in time 3pm) I was able to get in my room around 12. Cesar my front desk clerk who helped with my check in was super helpful and made us instantly feel at home. He definately was a reason we decided to extend our stay from wed to friday. We could have checked out amd stayed closer to the main strip but he took care of us and I am huge on customer service. Thanks so much Cesar! My room was exceptionally clean and housekeeping did a great job maintaing it day in and out. Easy uber access if that will be your mode of transportation. Did not try any of the resturants because we tried multiple buffets and had our breakfasts, lunchs and dinners planned before we got there. The floor bartenders were friendly and came swift with drinks (be sure to tip them please). $5 roulette buy in’s which I liked most casinos start at $10. All in all I would stay again.

The SAHARA was a welcomed getaway from the hustle and bustle of The Strip. I’m thankful I did my research and opted not to stay at The L—Q where my conference was. Unlike other congested and smoke-filled lobbies, the SAHARA smelled nice, you could move about easily, and could actually see the nice decor. My Alexandria king room was clean and comfortable with free water daily as well as at the front desk. No drunkards or slamming doors heard in the halls. Overall service was great. My only disappointments were the lack of 24-hour room service and bathrobes in my room. Having the Monorail right outside made getting back and forth to The Strip easy. I’ll stay again in a heartbeat and highly recommend the SAHARA! Staying there was a great experience for my first trip to Vegas.

Whatever you do stay away from the Sahara just got back from Vegas stay there for 4 days. First off they lie to you about the price and how much they're going to hold your credit card for. And I didn't find that out till after checkout, since they never gave me anything except the keys. Then when I get up to the room during one of Vegas's holidays the room wasn't cold because the air conditioner wasn't working properly it wouldn't go down past 70 even though it was set at 60 and that's 70 kind of felt like 80 cuz it was colder in the hallway in my room. Then I go to one pack only to find out they don't have a dresser to put your clothes it's basically two shelves which is a struggle to get to the back of them since they don't pull out. I've never seen this before in all my years of travel. Then I come to find out all the coffee pots were taken out of the room there is no more coffee pots in the room. How could they charge us for all these resort fees and amenities and they don't even have a dresser to put your clothes or a simple thing like a coffee pot which cheap hotels have had in the past that I've stayed at. They also don't have someone clean the room they're saying due to covid so basically when you walk to your room everyone leaves that trash outside in the hall. You would think after being closed for this pandemic you would help make your customers happy instead of trying to gouge them for every little thing. When I went to check out I was handed the receipt and at first I was told I was going to get back 150 which was incorrect which is what they hold for incidentals I was supposed to get back 200. After speaking to a manager for over a half an hour and having a paper snatched out of my hand like I was a dog by the receptionist to correct the issue I was assured I would be getting back to 200 only come to find out the only refunded 150. When I called to complain they told they emailed me two pages of my receipt which I was not given to when I checked out adding on additional fees. Stay away!!!!!!
