We had to come to Reno on an emergency. Stayed here for 2-nights. Good for the money. Rooms OK. Restaurant poor. Coffee Shop good. Mel's Dinner very Good for the money [better than the restaurant]. Looking for a cheap stay in Reno, this is it.

It is very unusual the Hotel charged you 30% in advance. I suggest you call the hotel directly asking why. In my case, I did not book directly with the Hotel, I booked through my bank's website travel service. I paid full amount in advance when I book the room, if I needed to cancel, I can get full refund if I cancel 72 hours prior to arrival date. The day I checked in, Sands asked me for a credit card, told me they would need to hold $75, but the $75 never actually charged through my credit card. I have a habit whenever I book a hotel room, I ask their cancellation policy.
