We are baffled by the recent negative reviews. The manager and his daughter were extremely friendly. I am very sensitive to smoke and often have a problem with non-smoking rooms even in more expensive hotels. However there was no smoke smell in the lobby (a...More
Friends we were traveling with chose this place because of the price, everything else in the area costing considerably more. Sometimes it is better to bite the bullet and spend the money. The sheets were clean, but beyond that, this place is a dump. Peeling...More

I have booked at the Sunset, and had no problem regarding the reservation and the agreed-upon price. With a corporate chain type motel, you definitely want to have a confirmation number and written price. The Sunset is an old-fashioned family business. In lieu of a written reservation agreement, I suggest you obtain & record the name of the person with whom you speak, and the date & time. When you call to re-confirm (a few days before arrival), you can refer, if necessary, to the reservation made with "Mrs. Nina Patel, on Jan.25 . . ." [fictitious name used here]. Hope this helps.
