This was our first night not sleeping in our own home since February 2019. We chose Portsmouth, which we usually pass by on the way to Maine, as a place to explore for this much needed getaway. The Sailmaker's House was perfect! The entry code for both the front entrance and our room was new to us and we like it, although did not meet the charming woman with whom we spoke to get an early arrival (and we did). The bed was one of the most comfortable not just in a hotel, but anywhere save ours my husband said. Modern, soft grays and pale greens were soothing. Our room did not have a sitting area and next time I will book #8 with its own veranda or another room with a sitting area inside. The location seems miles away from the bustle of downtown, but is an easy walk, near Strawberry Banke and the harbor. Note: the stairs to the second floor are steep, so if that is an issue for you, book on the ground floor. The garden is beautiful with seating and also a table should you want to eat there. There is also a nice entry lobby with hot and cold beverages, fruit and snacks. Behind it is a larger room with plenty of seating and large windows overlooking the garden. Fridges on the ground floor and even a supply closet with forgotten items like toothbrushes etc. They have thought of everything!! Our new favorite place to stay.

Portsmouth, NH was one of the stops on our trip to New England to visit with family and friends. We stayed two nights so that we would make sure to have a full day in and around town. We found making the reservation to be easy, and the lodging to be easily accessible with self check-in. Parking for those staying at the Sailmaker’s House was plentiful. The accommodations were attractive, up-to-date, and the room had standard hotel amenities. There were a couple of common areas (a sitting room/living room) with local information, books, games, etc. A small closet provided a few amenities/toiletries for your use if you’d left them at home. There was an attractive self-serve area in the common room with a refrigerator, breakfast/snack bars, fresh fruit, coffee/tea, and juice for the morning. The location was perfect — a short walk to Market Square, several parks and the waterfront. We’ll recommend the Sailmaker’s House to our friends and return here should our travels again bring us to Portsmouth.

My wife and I took a long weekend up to Portsmouth this past weekend and stayed at the Sailmaker's house. Here are my takeaways. 1. It is right off the beaten path of downtown and within a block or two of all the restaurants and shops 2. Lot's of parking space. 3. The place is modern, warm and inviting with a lot of historical pictures and nautical themed. 4. We love that there is no formal check in process and that there is a great "central" area with coffee, ice, tea, water, fresh fruit, maps, helpful magazines, the day's newspaper, plus their website is very helpful. 5. The room we stayed in was huuuuge with a living room, huge bedroom, our own deck to hang out on, a big bathroom with great shower head. The bed was very comfortable. The living room had a large, modern, tv. 6. There are plenty of outlets and place to store stuff. Overall, i don't have one negative thing to say about this place. I will definitely be staying here again when we come back.

Booked and stayed one night at the Sailmaker's House. Communication via email leading up to the stay was excellent. Check in and check out was very easy. The process is self lead via the last four digits of your cell. We stayed in Room # 4 on the second floor. The room was clean and charming. The house is centrally located near the downtown area with an easy walk to shops and dining. I would book again in the future. Really great spot!

We had a great stay! I booked the last room at the last minute and I am so glad I did. With my daughter at college nearby, we had wanted to enjoy Portsmouth for some time now. The location afforded us the ability to park and walk all over town. My husband can be pretty picky and he was raving about the comfy bed and so soft sheets! Stayed in room 6 which is small, but cozy. A great night sleep and a great stay. Highly recommend!
