Detailed Reviews
Had such high expectations for this hotel based on the overwhelming majority of great reviews on Trip Advisor. Although we did have some enjoyable moments, we most likely would not return. Here’s why.
First off, it is 100% a motel. You pull up to a parking lot and all the rooms are right in the parking lot. Outdoor lights are left on all night long outside each door (for safety obviously) but unfortunately that also meant a bunch of gnats/flies made their way inside every night when we returned back to the room. We must have killed 10 during our two nights there. There were gnats in our bathroom our entire stay. Not sure if there is an underlying moisture issue causing that. Quite annoying. The room and bathroom were very small for $600+ a night. The beds were very comfortable but the wall AC was incredibly loud every time it kicked on.
The pool was unfortunately a huge disappointment for us. It was way smaller than it appears in the main photo that is used online. I was shocked that there were no lounge chairs surrounding the pool!!!! There are chairs to sit (upright) but it’s definitely not a situation where you could lounge by the pool and relax. It’s also extremely tight to walk around the pool. It’s a shame bc the property is quite expansive and seemingly they could have allocated way more space for the pool area. However the pool is surrounded by safety gates and limits the walking space a great deal. The pool was also too cold for my children so they refused to go in. If it is supposed to be heated, the heat was definitely not working this weekend. We ventured off to the beach instead where was I surprised to find that there were no lounge chairs provided by the hotel. When the hotel referenced their “private beach” I assumed they meant the beach near the ocean was private. Instead, the private beach they reference is actually a sandy area with lounge chairs by the actual hotel (not by the ocean). The real beach was extremely overcrowded and not private by any means.
The vibe at the Sea Shell tiki bar/outside area is definitely a fun, shore vibe that’s awesome for groups, live music and great for hanging out and drinking. It’s not a place to come to relax by a pool for a relaxing getaway.
If the pool area was larger, heated and had lounge chairs, it would’ve made such a huge difference. Breakfast and complimentary waters would’ve been greatly appreciated too. But when you can’t lounge at the pool and the beach is uncomfortably overcrowded, it defeats the purpose of a summer getaway for us. Would much rather stay elsewhere with a relaxing pool experience and bigger room and then come to the Sea Shell for the cool bar vibe, great live music and fun with a group of friends.

We are sorry that you were disappointed with some of our amenities. Regarding the outside lights staying on, yes you are correct, this is a safety situation and they must remain on until dawn, every hotel does this. The pool which is actually quite large at nearly 40 thousand gallons is definitely heated and kept at 82 degree, it is checked daily. We do have 30 large comfortable chairs around the pool, mostly for parents keeping an eye on their kids or just lounging with a cocktail in hand. . We do have a large private beach, and you are correct it is not directly on the ocean, it is separated by a large dune built after Hurricane Sandy to protect oceanfront properties, but it is literally 50 feet away from the waves. Most customers refer our private beach because it is just that, private, with over 100 lounge chairs for the exclusive use of our resort guests. We appreciate your business and hope you will give us another try in the future. Tom Hughes Owner

My family and I discovered this place, when during the height of covid. We took a ride down to LBI for some Chicken & The Egg takeout. We parked near the resort and fell in love. We ended up staying for a few nights the following week and fell further in love! We booked for our end of the summer getaway this year, excited to see what the resort had to offer without covid restrictions and we were not disappointed!
There are so many good things about this hotel and 2 minor issues, which do not change our 5 star review or our love for this place. I include them below in an effort to be totally transparent.
Check in was easy and quick, room was even ready early! Love the room key wristbands. Any time we can leave all our stuff in the room and just enjoy the pool or beach or tiki bar, we are happy.
Room for 2 adults and 2 children, age 11. 2 Queen Beds on the 2nd floor. Plenty of space for us all. Was so surprised by daily housekeeping, its been so long! Loved getting fresh sheets, towels and an nice clean floor every day. We appreciated all the hooks inside and out for hanging towels and suits. Very nice shower, we love the controls in the back.
We knew we would not have an assigned parking space but oh boy did we under-estimate how long it would it take it get one. My husband drove around both lots, while I checked for people walking back to their cars. It took at least 30 minutes! But at the end we got a spot, and never moved the car again!
Loved the pool, all the bands and music around the bar, and the bartenders near the sand were awesome. Every night we sat and ate dinner or a snack and listened to the music, and enjoyed the scenery. Highly recommend seeing Ty Mares perform. Great voice, great personality!
We found all the bands and music to be top notch. Food was also excellent.
Ok, back to my final, minor negative, the windows in the room are covered with shutters which provide total privacy and look beautiful, however they don't keep the light out. Which would've been ok, however the balcony light stays on all night, I assume for safety reasons and I kept waking up thinking it was morning.
The staff was all so kind, attentive and seemed to really like their jobs. I was so impressed by the level of attention to every detail.
We can not wait to come back next year and will be calling as soon as booking opens. Hope to return in the off-season with our dog!

Traveled here for the second year in a row for the July 4th Holiday. My opinion is there is no better place on the Jersey Shore than Beach Haven. Seashell is a great option as you can park your car in their lot, have easy access to the beach and popular restaurants (make sure you reserve). Seashell has excellent, solo artists and live band options each day. Food by the pool is mediocre with few exceptions, but fine for burgers. Stay on the second floor if you have the option, or you will be hearing your upstairs neighbors to all hours of the night. There is no more neighborly consideration in America anymore, so be prepared. To their credit, front desk and security team were very responsive to noise complaints after 10p. Beach haven is definitely a party place, so be prepared to party, or risk being dissatisfied.

Motel with motel parking is such a rip off. Rooms have small windows and are like being in a basement. Decor is dark and bachelor pad style. Biggest complaints of all: People sit outside rooms and talk till midnight and management does nothing, room floor was filthy with chunks of dirt, not just sand... Beyond that: pool has such a small area around it (it's like a ridge - no way a pool company designed that!) that I was happy my kids are full grown for fear that they would fall into a mostly deep pool. The shallow section is no bigger than a kiddie pool and it was filled with sand and cold (no way it's 80 something like they state on hear in just one of their very defensive comments (so many; so much for the customer is always right). The outdoor bar area looks like someone's backyard and the private beach is the part by the sand dunes, you know the desert area that no one sits in! Lobby is dark and smells like a keg party. AC units are super loud window units for which they dictate the temp for fear of mold. If you like feeling like you are visiting someone's house with a weird backyard and basement room, then this is for you! Skip this and get a room in a real resort in Hawaii (really, it's the same price) with real palm trees!

So let me start by saying that this review is solely for the hotel and the house keeping manager Tina. Me and my husband booked 6/24-6/28 but we actually left a day early because of how dirty the room was. On Saturday we realized the house keeping skipped our room when we saw them and asked, they said they don't clean rooms and handed me towels and toilet paper, so I thought they don't go in rooms until I read the paper handed to us when we checked in that they are supposed to clean rooms daily. So, I went down Sunday morning and spoke to a very nice gentleman who said he will make sure they clean my room Sunday, and they were supposed to clean it Saturday, but they lied and said no when I spoke to them. And it wasn't because some of them didn't speak English because I spoke to them in Spanish to make sure they understood what I was asking I guess they were being lazy. But when they cleaned on Sunday, I realized it was really no difference accept, they fixed the bed and took the garbage out, but the floors were still dirty as well as everything else. So, while we are checking out a day early early today with Tina, she said I should have called again about filth of room and Shes charging me the unused night, which I never said to her I wouldn't pay the extra night I knew I would be charged the extra $550 but I rather lose $550 then stay in a filthy room again. But Tina was so obnoxious!!! So, then I ask to speak to manager, and she said she is the manager of housekeeping and honestly, I was blown away because of how extremely rude and unprofessional Tina is. If she talks to her housekeeping staff the way she talks to people staying at hotel I can see why they do such a poor job cleaning. So, for $550 a night you would expect at least a courteous management staff and hygienic place to sleep but you get neither of those things here. The tiki bar and bartenders are wonderful I just advise you stay in a different hotel and then go and check out the bar.

I suppose we should have dined in the indoor restaurant, but if the food there is as bad as this outdoor grill I won’t make the mistake twice. It’s more of a half dressed noisy pool/seaside bar and grill. There was a fat shitless guy guzzling beer while standing nextvto a dining table. If you’re more into a large derrière show at the bar instead of decent bar food you just might like this noisy (from the adjacent family hotel pool) place! I expected a little more upscale (and Im not a snob).
THE FOOD! My crab cake sliders were more luke old fashioned FISH CAKES. I thought the sliders were a smaller portion of their crab cake entree. If so avoid both! The chicken Caesar wrap contaed very little chicken and the beef tacos had a scoop of ground beef cooked in over seasoned taco mix. We definitely wont be returning. It seems tey are taking advantage of prime beach area to serve up poor quality food.

Back in January I planned my sister bachelorette at the Seashell with Brittany’s help. 2 Rooms were requested and booked through an external link. Confirmation letters were never received untill management was contacted. A confirmation letter was then received but with the wrong dates. When confronted about this mistake this resort told me they were not responsible for any mistakes made on their confirmation letter. I was eligible for their particular refund of about $200.00 but would be responsible for taking the remaining $1500.00. This of course was requested to be refunded due to their reservation making abilities- when the sea shell report responded that we were taking food from their families mouths. Long story short I would not recommend booking any stays with this resort or participating in any business with them for that matter.

I am as much insulted as disappointed by this “small business”. Brittney was helping my sister to book my bachelorette party. At first she seemed very helpful, talking through a few things… unfortunately through this process the wrong dates were booked. My sister emailed with Brittney multiple times stating the dates she meant to book for, Brittney didn’t take the time at address this error. Needless to stay we did not show up for this reservation since the dates where wrong. When I was speaking to Britney about this unfortunate occurrence, I accepted partial fault for this mistake. Brittney refused to accept any faults of her own. She said to me “I wasn’t asked to double check the reservation it so why would I” in regards to noticing that the dates my sister emailed about didn’t match the booked dates. “I wasn’t asked to” seems immature, lazy and lacking the care a small business should have for their customers. In the end, the seashell took $1500 dollars from us. I offered much flexibly with this refund, including spending this money at the resort. They refused to refund us or to accept their part of fault in the situation. The icing on the cake… Brittney felt the need to tell me that this was a “small business” and this money was coming from her family’s pocket… that for sure is not hospitality in its slightest.
Small business have heart and flexibility to make their customers happy. Small businesses still accept that the customer is never wrong. Sadly the seashell is either a failing small business, or a heartless corporation.

I guess we will start with the room, very small. Front desk employees very nasty, no place to eat breakfast on premises, no food or snacks after 9pm, no (absolute) vodka liquor. The family went down for a vacation and booked 8 rooms, we asked to be put together and was told they couldn't accomodate us and the rooms were booked way in advance. Then hurricane Henri showed up and cut our vacation short, so we asked the front desk if there was anything they can do to reimburse us for losing the 2 days and the unkind snotty employees response was NO . A simple sorry for the inconvenience, or we can credit you next time, or even a voucher of some sort. So my family with 8 rooms lost a total of $425.00 a room for each night, which came close to 4,000.00. I would not recommend this place to anyone. One last thing, we were put by the garbage dumpster and the smell was horrific

Response from Tom Hughes, Owner at Sea Shell Resort and Beach Club
Responded 24 Aug 2021
Thank you for reaching out and we understand your frustration regarding the rainy weather we had this past weekend. Your complaints seem to be based on that frustration, and we are sorry for that. We appreciate your business and we appreciate that our guests use their hard earned money for their vacation. Our rooms are not small, out front desk personnel are cheery and helpful, even when guests who are frustrated about the weather, make their jobs more difficult. No, we do not serve breakfast, only lunch and dinner, this information is clearly available on our website. No, we do not serve food after 9pm, another item which is discussed on our website. Regarding our not having Absolut vodka, yes we do not carry that brand. We do however offer ten other brands of premium vodka. We cannot offer reimbursement for your decision to shorten your stay leave early. Your rooms were booked by you online and nowhere in your reservation did you request to be together. Even if you did, we could never guarantee that, nor could any hotel. We are booked nearly 100 percent every night and although accommodating special requests is a priority, we just cannot guarantee that. Again, we are sorry you were disappointed with the weather.

Stopped by for a relaxed outdoor lunch - another excellent experience. We have lived our summers on the island for over 27 years - rented for many years before that. The Sea Shell continues to improve with age and offers a varied menu for all customers. Their bar has standard and specialty choices that are consistently good. The appetizer and lunch menu is varied, (we prefer seafood options on the island), and the fish are always fresh. There were multiple visits this summer, just got around to the review. Kudos to our server, Matt, always observant and there with recommendations and fresh drinks. Worth a stop if you haven't been there yet. (PS: check out the live music schedule - great bands!)

You have to get on the 2!nd floor to see the ocean. I am a former guest. Call the office and they will help you. It is amazing beautiful place that looks tropical.
i would assume 21. But call the property to be sure
