Perfection. The detail and care that went into this renovation is remarkable. The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful. The aesthetic is stunning - clean, serene, relaxing. Two minute walk to the beach, spotless room, comfortable bed, delicious homemade (deluxe) continental breakfast, and the outdoor space is stunning - a lovely oasis with plentiful seating, a fire pit and soft music playing. My daughter and I spent a quick overnight and wished we could have stayed longer. I'll be back with my husband for an extended visit.

We stayed at the James recently on our first trip to the Jersey Shore. The hotel itself is lovely - the aesthetic is gorgeous, and it carries throughout the entry way, the breakfast area, and the rooms. The rooms are gorgeous and well appointed. Beautiful bathroom with lovely tile shower, and great soaps. The location is also really great just a few blocks away from the beach, and a few minutes away from many great restaurants and night life. Breakfast was delicious.

I wanted this hotel to be “our spot” on the Jersey Shore, but unfortunately, our room - while lovely - was pretty noisy. It was a first floor room, and we could hear the people upstairs better than we would have liked. We heard their footsteps, but also their conversations, and their late night/early morning comings and goings. I’m not sure if we just had a particularly noisy room, but unfortunately I’m not sure we’ll be back to find out.

The hotel was great and so was the price. Staff were friendly and accommodating. Check in/out was simple and included free beach passes and chairs. The location to the beach was so close, that I am not even sure it was truly a block away. The porch and side and back patios were a nice spot to relax. We stayed in the olive room. The decor in room and throughout is very minimalist and clean. The soaps provided were nice and herbal. Chocolate chip cookies in the room upon arrival were also a nice touch. We weren't sure if the waters by the bed were free as the mini bar/basket included a price list. We usually eat a large breakfast but found the daily continental breakfast was more than enough. It included fresh pastries, breads, hard boiled eggs, yogurt, cereal, granola, fruit and spreads. An overall great stay and we would return.

The last thing that I like to do is write a negative review but our experience was so unsatisfactory and disappointing and, after reaching out to the owners twice and receiving no response, I have no choice.

Upon our arrival, the bathroom was filthy!! There was a huge visible glob of hair protruding from the shower drain so it was obviously not cleaned. Even when I brought it to their attention, they only removed the hair but did not clean the rest of the shower. And that was only the beginning.

Service was non existent. We stayed for 3 nights and no one came even once to empty the garbage cans or give us clean towels. The TV did not work properly and no one could help. I was given the incorrect key to open the safe after my valuables were inside and it took me over an hour to find someone that knew enough to find the correct key. Breakfast was a disaster- no utensils, forgotten items, dirty tables. There was only one person at the reception desk who was expected to do everything - check you in, answer phones, get beach chairs and umbrellas, help with breakfast, etc - an impossibility. And I could go on and on.

As I stated in the beginning, the most incredulous part of this is that there was no manager on site and I reached out to the owners twice and never received a response of any kind. I travel extensively and I have never had such an abysmal experience . Not to mention that it was not inexpensive - I paid over $700 a night!!

This is not the way to run a business.

A nice, unfussy option for a Bradley Beach vacation with a homey feel. The room was modest but adequate, like the breakfast buffet. My complaint is with the management - who I wanted to contact to discuss at least a partial refund for the first night of our four night stay, when we arrived a day late due to the cancellation of our flight from Portland OR to NJ at the last minute. The overworked staff was very friendly, but directed me to the manager - who was very hard to get in touch with. I had to call and email REPEATEDLY before tracking him down, and then he was very brusque. We travel a lot, air travel these days is increasingly unreliable and stressful, and more often than not hotels are willing to work with you because they want your business. I would never return to or recommend a hotel doesn't value me as a customer.

The aesthetic of this boutique hotel/B&B is gorgeous. It's simple and modern but you feel like you're in France instead of Jersey. The many design details, fabrics, plants, wall colors, artwork, etc. make you feel very relaxed. The porch is glorious to sit on and feel the breeze. There are several outdoor spaces around the building (it's a renovated large house) and a fire pit (though it was raining the night we stayed). They give you everything you need for the beach (badges, towels, chairs, umbrella), which is just a few minutes walk down the street. Continental breakfast was served buffet style in a beautiful room off the porch. They had a nice selection of baked goods, quiches, cereal, boiled eggs, etc. The young men on staff are all welcoming and helpful and happy to get you coffee or whatever else you need. I will definitely be staying here again.

Perfection on the Jersey Shore. The James Bradley has been beautifully restored by its owner George, who is the nicest person. The building and grounds are beautiful. The customer service is exemplary. The rooms are so comfortable. The breakfast everyday is delicious. And, the location could not get better. A quick walk to the beach or a short drive to anywhere else along the shore you want to visit. I stayed at the James Bradley for almost a week while looking for a place to live as I am moving to the area. There is a real lack of good hotels along the shore and now I know exactly where I will have family and friends stay when they visit.

Beware. We lost $1,800 on this hotel.

The web site is terrible and the management doesn’t care. We wanted to book a vacation with three rooms for our family for two nights (Aug 21 and 22) and did so on Sunday August 13. The web site kept resetting the date to be August 14 and 15. We thought we had it right at the end. Yes we made a mistake, but the hotel should have done something since it was there web site. We got a phone call when we were 700 miles away on the 14th asking if we’re going to check in and I said of course not that’s for next week. Brandon,!he manager was out. When I called the next day, Brandon said the James Bradley is a small family owned hotel and there is nothing he could do. Well, guess what we are a small family whose vacation was ruined. $1,800 and not even an I am sorry. I can only imagine what it would be like to stay there if they have to sort of attitude towards their guests.

We are sorry to hear about this situation. Though we understand mistakes happen, upon booking, a confirmation email is sent out confirming all information regarding your stay, including the check in date. This email also includes the cancellation policy. We apologize, however, since you had booked the room, we could not rent it to someone else, which is why all hotels have a cancellation policy. Again, we are sorry this was the situation.

My friends and I decided to visit Bradley Beach, a pristine little spot at the New Jersey shore.
I heard about The James while walking along a small street fair so we decided to check it out.
I’ve stayed at quite a few places along the New Jersey coast and I haven’t seen any place like this.
This lovely inn has been renovated head to toe. The rooms are impeccably decorated and CLEAN. We had a delicious breakfast prepared by chef Michael, a true gentleman, who made us his signature blueberry, croissant French toast- Wow!!
The staff was friendly and accommodating. You guys rock!
This place is second to none, in my book. I will definitely be back!!
Almost forgot to mention- beach passes and chairs, too!!

Newly renovated, The James is stylish, sophisticated, and extremely comfortable, with a distinctly European feel. It's located on a beautiful street, just a block from the beach. The service is friendly and impeccable. Guests receive complimentary beach tags, and the staff set us up with chairs and an umbrella at the beach. The attention to detail throughout was impressive. Recommend it highly and look forward to a return visit.
