I had always wanted to stay at the Breakers for many many years. I mean a lot!!! I finally got here this year. There were 5 of us. My daughter and her friends. You need to call the hotel to make reservations directly with them. That turned me off at first, however, the first two night of our trip, I would have stayed here, instead of the B and B I stayed at. The B and B was nice, but the beach location here can’t be beat and the price was the pretty much the same. We had room 216. It was a king suite facing the pool and ocean. The hotel called to offer us this room while we were eating to check in, instead of a smaller room, for the same rate. :) The room has a small table and two chairs and a electric fireplace in the king bedroom. The living room area had a pull out sofa and dresser.
Both rooms have tvs and their own a/c controls. The bathroom was huge with a big sunken tub and separate shower. We were also able to fit a roll away bed in the living room area, so the room is big enough for 5 people. The only draw back is for a beach hotel there is not a lot of hanging space for swimwear and towels or drawer space for clothes. There is a closet to hang clothes in though. The hotel pool is older and not very spacious, but it does the trick if you want a pool. We did not eat on site, but there was outdoor dining available by the pool and on the veranda facing the ocean. Pool towels are available for free, there are a limited amount of lounge chairs, and a small grass area. There was only outside dining due to covid, however we ate off site. Parking is on the road facing the beach and is free. We had to walk two blocks, but our weather was nice so it was fine. If you are handicapped, tell the front desk and they can arrange special parking for you. During the day there were spots in front of the hotel to load and unload when checking in and out. We had no problem either time. I would try a different property next time, just to see what else is out there. The place is nice, but I was not as impressed as I thought I would be. Nothing wrong with the hotel, though.

The hotel is charming and the staff is warm and welcoming. My favorite hangout was the front porch overlooking the ocean. It is only open to hotel guests and you can order drinks and meals while taking in that amazing view! The room was comfortable and the pillows were even more so. We had a bit of difficulty with the shower controls (the secret is you pull the bottom faucet towards you to turn it on in case someone searches this thread like I did) and a staffer kindly came up and showed us the ropes. We also had a special exception request that the Manager on duty took care of for us immediately and fairly. Thank you all for making us feel welcome and safe. We will be back!

Awesome place! After reading some of the lower rated reviews, my husband and I questioned whether we should stay at Breakers. We’re sooo happy we decided to form our own opinion. Yes, you may find some small areas that need renovations, but I found little, if anything, to complain about. After all, this place dates back to the 1800’s and with that comes the old world charm. We booked a cozy king size room with a side view of the ocean. The room and bed were very comfortable. The ocean view… well , yes, there was a view but minimal. However, the view was still really nice as it mostly overlooked some gorgeous homes. The pool was great… very few kids and I have to say the pool staff treats guests like royalty. There’s tables for poolside food service and you can even order drinks delivered right to your lounge chairs (frozen drinks as well and the frozen mudslides are really great)! The hotel restaurant has a nice selection and reasonable priced. Access to the beautiful Spring Lake beach is directly across the street - but make sure you bring your own beach chairs and umbrellas as the hotel does not provide them. They do, however, provide beach passes. There is a charge to rent bikes…it would be nice if they offered use to guests at no charge. Again… INCREDIBLE hotel staff!!! Overall, we loved this place and we’re already looking forward to coming back. Enjoy!

The room was very small. Jets in the tub did not work and were completely missing buttons. I decided to take a bath anyway and got leaked on from the ceiling above. Went to the front desk who asked if we wanted to switch rooms (we declined as it was 9 at night and our kids were sleeping) but otherwise did nothing to remedy the situation. Mentioned it again upon check out and was not even given an apology. This is not a cheap place to stay and I expected more than a small room, broken bath, and leaking ceiling. Especially without so much as an apology. Very disappointed.

Breakers has a great location; oceanfront with a large porch overlooking the beach. The hotel provides beach tags and beach towels, but you need to bring your own chairs and umbrella. Beachfront is unique at Spring Lake as there aren't many vacation or rental properties on the beach. The small town center is a five block walk through a beautiful neighborhood. Drinks and dessert are served on the porch. The high points of the hotel were the location and porch. Service and staff were very pleasant and the restaurant provided the best meal we had during our vacation. The hotel is somewhat dated as the hallways could use some painting and carpet. The room was OK with a remodeled shower and a large refrigerator. All in all, we would stay again as the location is fantastic

We returned to The Breakers for an overnight in early June; had previously stayed here about five years back. What a disappointment! Pros: hotel public areas and rooms are very clean, staff is pleasant and accommodating.
Sadly, that is all that can be said to recommend. We had a partial ocean view room that had windows that were inoperable, air conditioning that sounded like a freight train and a very lumpy mattress.
The bar was sorely lacking in their cocktail offerings-no Aperol for an Aperol Spritz(at a beach hotel!), no dark rum for dark and stormy! Ordered a margarita that was way too sweet! My husband's Manhattan, ordered and sent back 3 times!
Dinner in the restaurant was barely passing. Food was bland, bland, bland! From the appetizer-hot antipasto, every single thing on the plate had no flavor. House salad covered in cheese(mozzarella?). I had the scallop entrée-scallops were tasty, but were on a bed of plain pasta that was utterly tasteless. My husband's veal dish was completely without flavor.

First, I have to say I have never written a review but felt this should be shared since it could affect anyone staying there. I had made reservations for one night but unfortunately 6 days before 4 of my family members tested positive for COVID. Trying to be overly cautious (6th day we would check in post COVID) and courteous to others staying I called explaining the situation and asked not for my money back but just to reschedule my stay a few weeks out. I was told they could not do that nor
Could they refund me. My choice was to release the room and hope someone else books it then I can get a refund and If not I lose my cost of room $570! I am honestly appalled a hotel would not have there patrons health on the forefront it seemed they were more worried about losing the money. Not to mention everyone I spoke to on the phone was very short with me and to the point. I just wanted to write this so others are aware of their COVID policy or lack of.

We just returned from 4 nights at The Breakers in Spring Lake NJ. We were there to spend Christmas with family that live in Toms River, which has no decent places to stay.

This “hotel” has so much potential. The views and location are superb. All it needs is some updating, cleaning and attention to detail and it could be a five star property. What I can’t understand is how you could be fortunate enough to own such a fabulous property and have it look so run down and old. The porch has some blue carpeting which looks ridiculous (reminded me of a nursing home). We were there at Christmas and it was decorated but even some of the string lights on the outside bushes were out (lack of attention to detail). The restaurant food is average, not bad just unremarkable. The restaurant itself could be beautiful since the ocean view is amazing, but the decor is really dated. again giving you the feeling you’re at a rest home. The elevator is small and quite slow. The room was clean enough, carpeted (why?? You’re at the beach). The small refrigerator was sitting on a piece of ply wood and slanted. My biggest pet peeve is no handheld in the shower. I mean come on every hotel and cheap motel has them now. And yes you have to to call in your reservation and pay your deposit by check! R I D I C U L O U S!! I would stay again in a pinch, but ill keep looking.

We had an excellent week at The Breakers. I am usually a tough reviewer. The food was excellent despite the dining room not open during COVID. We ate either on the porch or by the pool. The waiters worked hard. The room met our expectations with one small issue with the tub draining. Hand sanitizer was everywhere I we used it. Checkin was fine. We would recommend the complimentary coffee be offered to 10 am. When we arrived we tried to bring our bags in the lower level. You can't access the lower level without a key. So you have to climb up steps to checkin first. While you can call, this is a big problem for people with a disability. There should be better info on the phone when making the reservation about the checkin process. Overall we can't wait to go back and maybe make in an annual event.

Great experience at the Breakers last week. I was not sure what to expect, but was very pleasantly surprised and happy with the service and hotel. Very challenging times, but the staff handled everything perfectly and we felt very comfortable. No indoor dining, but the take out options were great and the food was delicious. I appreicated the staff continuously cleaning the main areas of the hotel. We also had option to not have staff enter the hotel room after check-in, so that was a plus. The beach across the street was not crowded, so that added to the comfortable surroundings. Would highly recommend The Breakers.

Yes parking is free. You are requested to park in a designated area across the street from the hotel. At times, we walked a half block back to the hotel due to parking availability so if one’s walking is difficult be advised

The only overnight parking is on the beach side across the street. Rest is free but not overnight.
