I stayed at this B and B for two nights with my daughter and her 3 friends. We were celebrating her 16th birthday. The property is cute. It is on a pond on a quiet street. Our room was number 5, which is right across from the rear staircase. The room was very cozy. It is actual two connection rooms that were made into one suite, I would say. One small room had a dresser and a trundle bed. The other room had a queen bed, dresser, a single bed, small table and chairs, two night stands and a small balcony. Totally Victorian. I loved it. It was not luxurious, but it was perfect. The 16 year olds girls could not appreciate the look and feel. The house is old, and shows some wear, but I felt it just added to the character.
This property is about 1/2 a mile to the beach, not a bad walk, about 10 minutes. The girls rented bikes from the bike shop on Washington Ave for $20 a day. It is also located very close to the end of the boardwalk, at this end there are some nice single restrooms. Parking is free at the beach. The B and B Has private off street parking.

Absolutely delighted with our 2 night stay! We celebrated our 38th wedding anniversary in Spring Lake,NJ and couldn’t have asked for a better place to stay! Our small dog,Christy was with us and we had a really nice efficiency with a private entrance on a beautiful porch. The grounds were meticulously kept and the area out back overlooking a picturesque pond were lovely. Our hostess,Ronna was sweet and added a special touch to our stay.Highly recommended!

I've got a nice vacation with Walden. The place is lovely, located on the pond with gorgeous ducks and swans. Staff was extremely nice, neat and courteous. Breakfasts are amazing! The owner was friendly and helpful, such a pleasure to meet Ronna. Rooms are cozy and clean. I'm very glad that I stayed here and definitely will come back here next year.

Reserved online. Room #7 is not worth the price. Extremely small. Window
air conditioner is noisy. We never saw the owners, which is unusual for a B&B.
We wanted ice. I had to call the owner? to get some. Met her in the kitchen,
was given bucket, no conversation, woman left after closing door in my face.
Breakfast consisted of bagels, a few danish, some pieces of quiche, a large
bowl of fruit, paper plates, and excellent coffee.
We saw only one staff member. He helped with bags upon arrival and said
goodbye upon departure.
Would not recommend this B&B to anyone.

The owner gave us beach passes which I bought home by mistake. I returned them by mail. She unauthorized went into my account and charge me $200 for un returned Beach passes which I did return. She ignored my text. I asked for a refund because I wanted to come back and visit her establishment and she refused, This owner Ronna is more concerned with money than keeping a good relationship with her customers! She unauthorized went into our account and charged us 200 dollars!! I was willing to return every birthday and she would’ve made a lot more money than that $200 that she charged me unjustly!

I was turned away at the door at 9:23pm after they did not answer phone calls about arriving late. The inn keeper didn’t even say hello when she finally answered the phone. She launched into yelling at me about the wrong phone number that the booking company apparently gave her. “Don’t you check your emails!?! CHECK YOUR EMAIL!!!!” She repeatedly shouted at me, not allowing for a response. I received zero emails or phone calls. I booked it the morning of. Can you imagine turning away a paid customer who arrives 20min late, who has proof of attempted contact!?!?? Go anywhere else but here.

This guest booked online - and input a phone number that started with 888- we thought something was very wrong. We could not contact the guest or email - We close at 8:00 pm and kept staff here until 9:00 pm. In addition, we had breakfast added for the guest. They did finally arrive at 10:00 pm - the staff was sent home and we were closed. When I informed her of this she got very angry -she was the one yelling. At this point had no obligation to keep this reservation

We had a great time at the Walden. Our room was very clean and cozy and the staff also was very accommodating. The Beach also was just amazing as well as the nearby restaurants. We are returning soon with my family for my Mom's Birthday.

My daughter and I stayed here. The owner is very gracious and helpful. Upon arrival she upgraded us at no extra charge. The place is absolutely adorable. Our room was very comfortable. The yard is a beautiful place to sit and relax with your coffee. Many very nice restaurants to chose from. Beach and boardwalk were both very clean and beautiful. Thank you for making our stay a wonderful experience.

Do not waste your time booking a reservation at the Walden as the owner
obviously does not waste her time trying to fix it. There were water spots all
over the place, indicating more than one leak. The stairs felt like they were
about ready to give way. The paint in the room was all cracked and peeling. The
bathroom looked like it had not been cleaned in years, and the door was partly
blocked by furniture. We did not stay at this hotel. We spent five minutes in
the room and left. We were lucky in that we showed up early enough to be able
to inspect the room before check-in, and did not have to pay as we did not sign
the agreement.

We have been renovating are 1883 Historical Victorian Since it was purchased. Are staircase is solid Mahogany and can handel the weight of an Elephant. We also have a new roof that cost approx $20,000. So I would like to know were these mysterious spots are. We paint every season as well. We clean daily and serveral times a day and have maids live-in so it is impossible that a bath would be dirty or look like it was not clean. Yes, we do have 2 smaller rooms-and that information is told to guests when the reservatin is made. The price is also less-and some people prefer this- because the spend most of there time at the beach or reading on are porch. All of are rooms have new carpet and furniture - some are antique's The Manager and Owner care very much about the Inn. Pictures of this room are available upon request.

Just returned from beautiful Spring Lake, NJ and a less than stellar two-day stay at Walden on the Pond. Upon arrival, one can tell this is not a B&B that is well cared for... weeds peek through the sidewalk and out of the garden beds, the paint on the front steps is peeling, the wicker furniture & stained cushions are ready for the dump.
Unfortunately, once you book your stay, you're stuck with it... The B&B's web-site speaks of rooms that are "individually decorated with custom wallpaper and antique furnishings". The correct description should be "rooms in serious need of updating, wall paper stained and peeling, paint on door / window moldings dirty and peeling and repainted curb-side pick up furniture." The thin towels (can I have another please) and the "gee, I wonder if these sheets have been changed before I checked in" are an added bonus.
I tell 'em like I see 'em and at $280 a night, this place is utter highway robbery for what was provided.
Don't count on a gourmet B&B breakfast making up for the shortfall in the accommodations.... this place doesn't prepare a breakfast - instead, they provide a few bagels, a few types of muffins, a meager fruit salad and the option of having corn flakes (don't forget coffee and OJ). Nope folks, the muffins provided aren't fresh baked at the B&B but rather brought in from a sub-par bagelry / bakery. My advice to you is If you want a good selection of bagels or muffins, you best arrive early as they're gone by 9:30am and then you're stuck with corn flakes.
Before you consider checking into any B&B in Spring Lake, DON'T do it sight unseen. Take a look around ahead of time (if you don't have the time), use a site such as tripadvisor before booking... Prices are high in the area and ensure you don't have the same sinking feeling we had after paying $640 (tax included) for two nights in sub-par accomodations.

The pictures that were posted were not how the room looks at all. It has been fully updated . and the same guests return every year. In addition we are a hotel not a B&B and breakfest is served as a courtsy and not included in the rate. I will display the correct photo's - I must be advised how to do so- we work very hard to keep a low rate and a family freindly place. It is 1883 Inn and will never be a Hilton Hotel - however some people perfer this.
