We stayed at Olympic Island Beach Resort for a long weekend (Friday - Monday). Seeing that this hotel (really a motel) had 4.5 dots as a rating, I think I set my expectations much higher than they should have been. Below is a summary of pros and cons that will hopefully help someone considering booking this motel. To set the expectation of this review, I will usually stay at Hiltons and Marriotts when traveling. Pros: they offer a cash only discount which saved us some money, the room was clean (no obvious stains or bugs), the location is great - right on the beach, the pool area was nice and it is a big enough pool that you did not feel crowded, free parking, had a breakfast/lunch restaurant on premise (we did not eat in, but did get a few drinks from the takeout window), the TV had Direct TV service. Cons: the room was very outdated and small, there was a musty smell to the room, the lighting was not good (very dark), our room (217) was right next to the elevator so you heard the beeping at night/early morning, the bathroom was tiny, the pool was only open until 8 pm so no nighttime swimming, the advertised free WiFi was non-existent (the room was also a dead zone for Verizon data), the towels were old, thin, and tiny. Even with the cash discount, do I think I got what I paid for in terms of value? No. Was the room functional and a place to sleep at night? Yes. Should this place advertise themselves as a resort? Absolutely not - there were no activities or special touches that would make it a resort. Simply stated, this is an outdated motel that needs a lot of updating and should not cost nearly as much as it does. But that is just my opinion and prices are determined by demand. Would I stay here again? Probably not, but that is based on my typical standards for a hotel.

We had a reservation for what we had hoped to be an enjoyable family vacation. Sadly, one of our guests suddenly passed away 5 hours before check-in forcing us to turn around to be back up north for family. Our hope was that management would be understanding of the issue and as we had notified them before check-in we were hopeful staff would show some empathy for our recent loss and grant us our refund. In horrible taste, management notified our booking agent that we were liars and canceling because of the weather. This is so uncalled for and insulting that the venue would further cause stress to our families loss by refusing to refund our money is disturbing. Management also stated "Too Bad" and hung up on another guest of our party, the mother of the recently deceased. The venue states their a family vacation resort, they are clearly not. I ask you to not support such a disgusting and vile hotel, there's plenty of other options in the area.

This was my first stay here and I was pleased with the place. Our room was clean, bathroom clean and bright, I liked the shampoo and hairdryer in the bathroom, the bedding was clean, the beds and the sofa bed were comfortable and the ceiling fan in the bedroom made it very comfortable at night. The WiFi is nonexistent though. I could only get the internet outside by the restaurant. This is a non-smoking establishment but I did notice people vaping and one teen using weed. Great location.

This hotel is steps from the beach (it's a long, long beach but you are close to it). We had a breezeway suite with a sink, full fridge, microwave & dishware. No paper towels, one dish towel and sponge with dish soap Other pros and cons: The pool rooms have a terrific view of the beach. The room had been cleaned well & the sheets were clean. Free wifi & parking The breakfast /lunch place underneath is handy. The elevator was great for lugging the bags. There's a discount for paying cash Pool & Lounge area laundry room available Cons: The room was old and stitched together, a lot of gouges in the wall, old bedspread, hangars that are twisted onto the rod so that you cannot take them off, not many outlets. There is one small, old ice machine for the hotel. It costs a quarter to try to get ice (it was empty for most of our stay). When you can get it, it is very thin and watery and not much of it. I'd buy a bag or bring ice trays, save yourself the aggravation. Parking is TIGHT. No AC in the bedroom of our suite, you have to leave the door open The next door shower sounded like it was in our room Not a pro or con but there is a room key charge that is returned with the keys.

Loved the location, the view from the pool deck and the attentive staff. The only small complaint we had was about the size of the bathroom. We were in suite 101. The bathroom is about the size of what you’d find in an RV. Knowing this place was built in the 50’s or 60’s we kind of understood, but it’s a challenge.
